Additional infomation for possible installation problem:
Because the program was written by Chinese language version Virtual Basic, the setup information may appear to be Chinese characters which, I am afraid, most of the community members are not able to read.(Because 1.few people here speak Chinese; 2, the characters may not be displayed correctly on operating systems other than Chinese simplified versions) Therefore, I decide to make this pictured instruction. Hope it helps.

From the manual:

General information:

"IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles" provides us with three different methods to control view movement. "FB View Plus" is a plug-in aimed at improving both the PanView and SnapView.

1), PanView changes the view by a certain scale each time you push the coolie hat. The default PanView movement scale in FB is 45 degrees when changed horizontally and 30 degrees vertically. That is to say, in order to switch your view from looking straight to cockpit ceiling, you have to push up the hat three times. Furthermore, it does not support any continuous movement, which means If you want to switch your view from lower left (-135) to lower right (+135), you have to push the hat for six times, during which, certain misdoings could happen especially when engaged in a hot and deadly furball. That is one of the reasons why PanView is not so handy in the dogfights.

"FB View Plus" allows you to adjust the moving scale of your view movement freely. Say, you can make that "Level to Ceiling" change within two touches by defining the vertical moving scale to 45 degrees, and furthermore, continuous view movements are now possible. For instance, you can adjust the moving speed to 500 degrees/S, and it only takes 1.85 seconds to switch your view from lower left(-135) to lower right(+135) by holding the hat.

2) SnapView is another alternative of controlling view movements that automatically center the view after you release the hat. The FB default setting has a major drawback: We have a dead space. Besides that, one has to keep holding the hat in order to retain his desired view.

With "FB View Plus", the number and position of the fixed views can be personalized according to one's taste. It can prove to be very useful on a stick with dual-coolie-hats (or more) such as a Saitek X-36. In addition to that, you may choose "one button to center view" instead of the original "auto center view" thus one can avoid the holding procedure which could sometimes result in faulty movements. The hotkey map function allows you to get rid of the view positions Pov45, Pov135, Pov225 and Pov315, by doing so, you can solve the problem of a "shaking screen" caused by inaccurate actions of slanted angles.

3) "FB View Plus" offers a brand new alternative of conducting view changes: SearchView. No matter which method you are using, Snap or Pan, you can always activate the SearchView mode by holding the "Search Key" (The default key is Number Pad Enter). In the SearchView mode, while moving the hat, it does a small scale view change which allows you to adjust the view in a certain scope. Of course you can also define the movable area to a rather large extent, and just use the hat as a mouse if you want.

4) "FB View Plus" also uses a button to switch between SnapView and PanView (Default key is F9). As a supplement, it now makes the PanView and SnapView work together possible. This may only benefit those who have multi-hats such as a set of X-36. You may define the main hat on the right as PanView and with one of the left hats with SnapView to do quick time search with certain fixed area such as your six clock high.

Please feel free to distribute this program as long as no modification is made. Thank you very much for your time and interests in evaluating this program.

Just wanted to say Thx's! been using Newview for some time, but can be a real (head scratchier) sometimes, even with the English version and the excellent work done by members here on translated help files, this is simple, easy to use, and I really like the test function. Keep us informed of updates! Thanks again /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Excellent alternative for those like myself that find installation of NewView to be a daunting task. I can now look back and high. All of the other views can be adjusted to the field of view that suits the pilot. Quick switch button to switch between Snap View and Pan View. The speed at which you can pan around and return to center is adjustable, fast and very smooth. You can test your view angles before you ever get in game. Looks like another great 3rd party add-on that will be a benefit to members of this community that chooses to use it. No more looking at your feet in the cockpit. I always thought that was useless view to take up space on the POV. The mouse movement still works for looking at the instruments. Thanks fellas! I S! you.

Zoom for recognize is important, but i think with best zoom, you should not able to fire,

many pilots should over 800m, because she can good aim with best zoom.

Are you using Windows98?

You could be asked to reboot your machine if you use Windows98 or Me. You should be able to locate the shortcut to the program within your Start menu.

Start --> programs --> I_JG54 Software....

If you can't find it, try to search it in you C;/Program Files directory.

Or, maybe something happened during the installation and that reboot was an abnormal one.........

I need more info, please.

No risk, no reward~ /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

1)I don't think the installation of NewView changed FB view configeration, coz I installed Nview once and if I do not run it at the background, the FB runs exactly the same as before.

2)So far as I know, the NewView is an emulative software which emulates the TrackIR function supported by FB. However, FB View Plus is a program which emulates the movement of your mouse.

Therefore, It doesn't look like these two tools will conflict as long as you do not run them at the same time.

Can't offer you a guarentee though.

Good luck!

Wolfstriked,

Are you sure you have the administrator authority when installing the program?

The installation adds some .dll files, which are actually made by Microsoft, to your machine, that's why it requires you to reboot your computer.

I have to admit that this program is quite buggy with the installation process because it was, as the main developer had proclaimed, designed with a 1996 era software which is, follow today's standard, quite obsolete.

But you can not neglect the fact that there are a lot of people who can run it without a problem.

I am not the chief developer so I can do nothing except to bring all the feedbacks to the guy who actually WROTE the lines for the program, he, an excellent programmer, unfortuantely, does not speak English well.

I will do my best to convey eveything between each other.

Very nice, ty! It works finely for me. The search view feature is particularly interesting. One thing I miss from the original view is the key combination using numpads. The combinations don't seem to produce the desired view effect anymore (for example 5-1). But apart from this, the new features are really good/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Wiley,

sorry for the late response

I have been informed from the creator directly.

He said that,

For XP/2000 Operating System, you have the admin authority

For Win98/Me, after the reboot, you need to REINSTALL the program, and it shall work fine this time.

Good luck!

I am really sorry to hear this.

The installation first adds some DLL files to your SYSTEM32 directory, if you are using Win98 cored OS you should be asked to reboot the machine.

After the reboot, you may run the Setup again to finish the installation.

As for your problem, I have reported it to the developer, I think within a day or two, we can solve it.

Thank you for your support /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Moreover, I wonder when the first Chinese games and simulations will become available: we've seen what East Europeans have been capable of lately (IL-2, Flanker/Lock On, Operation Flashpoint, Hidden & Dangerous, Mafia, Vietcong to name a few outstanding)...
I believe a combination of socialist technical/rational background with an high scolarization/specialization, and the huge numbers and low wages do the trick.

By the way, I was wondering: does the program work with the original IL-2 as well? I guess so, and it would become handy for my laptop... /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Go and find the VB runtime files, which should be something like this "vbrun60.exe", about the size of 1Mb.

Got an Odd problem????

I am using XP-Pro. I use a Logitech Freedom 2.4GHz Wireless Joystick.

Installation - Excellent

Programing - Problem - When I change SnapViews and test them the work exactly as programed. However when I go into FB everything is backwards and the Default forward view in Snap View is Up about 25% and kinda zoomed???

I use POV-0 to look Up and POV-180 to Look down. In truth...all I really want is to have the down View set at about 30-35% to see my instruments in Snap View. Is there anyway to do this in FB's settings.ini???

Here is the setting that results in the Down View being 90% down: Pov180 JoystickPov0=Snap_0_m2 What would I cahnge it to to be 30-35% down.

Thanks,

Red Melody, the program should be pretty straight forward, even running in VB.

It would be a lot of help, spreading the program, if it was in English.

Is it possible to run and change a config file, to change the language by ourselfs?

I'm actualy doing just that in NewView.
I'm changing the whole GUI into my language (Portuguese), and then i'l try to send it to the ones who produced it, as for them to add the language support for more specific downloads.

Is it possible for us to do the same with this program?
It would help a ton!

I don't think it takes a helluva work in order to change the language outfit. Actually it was first presented in the language of Chinese, after I've translated the manual into English and several words on the main operating window, it only took the guy a couple of hours to make this English version.

But I am not sure if it is appliable for the users who has not the source codes and all, I would recommend it to him add a config setting for switching between different languages. Thanks for your suggestion!

Best wishes!

PS: Well, if anyone wants to contribute to this little program by translating everything into another language such as French or German, I believe we will be more than happy to bring you this specified language version.

Red Melody, I'm using view plus from some days now. I think the "search view" is a very useful feature. I feel very comfortable with it and I can fially hold my hands on the joy.
I still have a problem, from time to time. I regularly cleared my old settings using the program, as indicated, but when I use search viem, the view seems to lock somewhere, and even using the "center view" key I can't go back to the ordinary frontal view.
I'm using XP and the program seems to work finely for all the other aspects.
Again, ty a lot! I think Oleg should officially endorse it /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Red Melody!

I sent Red Melody a personal E-Mail and he answered! Views working backwards was because my mouse was inverted. I had it that way for Gunner Positions.

Forward View askew, This is caused by bumping your mouse. The manual tells you to minimize mouse usage. But to correct this error, as mouse usage is still required, set an (In-Game) Snap Views button to: "Look Forward". Now set the same button in Pan View to "Center View". If you use the mouse in either view the View can easily be recentered by pressing that button. Guess what? As usual, it was all in the Manual, except for the "Inverted Mouse". Again...I just didn't read. S! Jamie, Great program, and you're one of the good guys! Thanks...

Waldo.Pepper,

Good call! I removed my NVIEW Npclient.dll when I had the initial problems.

does anyone consider these type of game mods a cheat? where do u draw the line? in my book any non-official modification to a game with the purpose to have an advantage is no good. am I just an ol' fart? {END QUOTE}

Well to start with, at 54 I am most likely older than you /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif Now, to answer your question....NO. There is nothing "suspect" here or in NVIEW. The biggest difference between NVIEW and FBView is in NVIEW, the stick is used to immulate the "G" forces on the body in a maneuver. It's cool, but tends to make me a bit Motion Sick. The effect can be regulated to preferences.
Pan View is changed to be smooth as you might move your head instead of in increments as the default in FB and at a rotational speed more comfortable to the user.
Snap View allows one to also change the speed and the angles viewed. In short, I am able to program the views to the way I turn my head not the way YOU turn your head.
Finally, before you go looking here for ummm....ahhh.... cheats (advantages). How about addressing the NO COCKPIT view, The EXTERNAL View, and the laughable, PADLOCK View. There are more "cheats", to use your terms, but I thought I'd stay with the Views. Have you tried either of these programs? You should. they are both GREAT!

PS: Talk about advantages. I use a FULL HOTAS with more buttons and Rotaries then can be believed. Imagaine the poor guy that has a simple 4 Button Stick, Not Hat, No rudders.

No, KMA.
It's not considered a cheat by all and any means.

I guess you have never tryed, or even seen working, a TrackIR!

A trackIR is a device that allows you to simulate smooth mouse movements with our head, thus, all you have to do, is point your head slightly to the position you want to look, and the trackIR will turn that head movement into a mouse input.
That is the perfect device, when one wants to keep concentrated in flying, instead of having to rely on the mouse, to smoothly look the way you want to.

This program however, along with ViewPlus and NewView, have to rely on joystick POV inputs, to look the way you want to.
The NewView for its turn, adds a little bit extra to its features.
It allows a simulated TrackIR to work with the motion of your joystick.

It all may seem a little dificult to explain, you realy need to try these programs for yourself, to understand fully what i mean.

It ins't in any way, considered a cheat, if anything, its an exploit.

A cheat is, for example, assigning a analog trim slider, wich makes the aircraft react completely unnaturaly, alltough to a veteran, its easily identified online, if someone is using this.

There is a very large gap beetween these programs, and a cheat.

Well, I've tried it, but I like NewView more. I think that you have more options to set and you have head movement simulated. Now new version is out (26 - English) and it's translated in English (tnx to Jetstream100, Hruks and Alezz & Clint-ruin). I dont mean that this is not good program. Just NewView suits me more.
Great to have people who are doing such utilities!

For the first time ever I have been able to configure my OLD Logitech Wingman Interceptor using the 3 hat switches. Previously I could only use 1 hat switch, but now I have 3 to play with WOOOOT!

Now I just have to test it in FB...here goes nothing.

OK, I downloaded the file. Then I started installation (in 98SE). After couple of messages, machine did a reboot, after which I again started installation of this nice program. However, when I started the program and hitted button called Clean FB View Settings, error message appeared: Runtime error '52': Bad file name or number. So, I started the game and cleaned Pan and Snap view mapping. Saved settings and exited the game. Tryed all different variants, but to no effect - In little test window function works fine, but in FB it's not working at all.
Do I have to manually remove ALL view mapping keys (including padlock, internal/external, chase view, etc.), or just Pan/Snap mapping as I did?
Could it be that it has something to do with the fact I have two mice connected to my computer?

/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif Don't know exactly how, but I got it working to some extent. I guess manual extraction was crucial. Using WinRAR I extracted contents of an.exe file to some folder, then did it again with the cab file. Then I manualy copied .dll files to Windows/System folder. However, switch isn't working and so far I can only use Pan view. I don't quite understand function of Center view button, because when I track target with pan, then switch to external view, and then again to internal view, view of looking is the same as it was in the last moment before I did a switch to external. I pushed a designated center view button, but nothing happened, so I had to manually get view to gunsight (using POV). Will let you know if I discover something else interesting.

you have to assign a seperate center button in FB!

if your view is not centered correctly than press the FB-Center button.
After this the prog will center correctly again.
it works for me.

I like Viewplus and it works good on my XP. NEWVIEW also used to drive me nuts. Only problem is... i can't remember how to adjust the configurations for a quicker look-around. What file do i go into to adjust and how can i do it?

I've been using it for a long time now. Just the ability to change the degree of any viewable direction is great. The ability to switch from pan view to snap view quickly is cool to. Great beta. S!

Boy - installing this seems to match exactly my knowledge about PCs. When I click on the install in the initial post I get a whole bunch on ?????? & ???(X) ...& ?????(C) commands/options & do you know what this leaves me???????Yes -perplexed!!! No matter what I press -I am exited from program with a message that ??????(X or is it C? ( whatever!?)has been uninstalled. I feel a little like I'm caught up in an Abbot & Costello routine. Can somebody help? this appears to be an easy solution to try ,while waiting for Santa to bring TrackIR2......

Hi,

can't get the download link happening. Is there a way to get this program or is it no longer available?

The site appears to be responding again now. I'm downloading it now. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

"Variable, this is EasyRhino. Do you copy? Over." Loud and clear EasyRhino. "Do we have a gig? Over." That's a Roger, we have a gig. Target is painted, start the music. "Roger that Variable. Into attack. Pickling target. Target is acquired and lit. LGB comin' down!" EasyRhino, circular error probability zero. Impact with High Order Detonation. Thank You, have a nice day.

Hi RedMelody and others, I am getting flashing, ugly graphics textures with ViewPlus, NewView, and the other app. Does anyone know of a fix?
