Hi,


I know the issue is not new, but this situation has not improved since FB 1.0

Bullets passing the La-7 in the right by 300m BUT hit it. Angle is about 90?.
La-7 pilot (me) could not be aware that he will be attacked and no tracer is visible to him.

Of cause you made some mistakes being in such situation, but being killed by GHOST BULLETS ???

Note: Pings where around 250, AND i DID NOT LAGG at all.

I hope 1c will improve that situation, if necessary I provide more screenshots of different occasions.

I'm sorry but I really can't decode what you are trying to demonstrate, I do however get the feeling it is a big issue.

I think he's trying to say...and I've seen this on a few occasions where lag, the server, and the client game cause havoc with shooting where you've already evaded your persuer only to be mysteriously shot down or blown up with no warning or indication you're being shot at.

Its largely a limitation with net connections and speeds...and its hard to do a game like FB on the net but there's probably ways to try and improve these things...at least to help improve the player experience in the face of lost packets and high ping times (or spikes).

after re-reading it indeed looks like he is complaining about lag.

Yes, this is very annoying, but also SO OLD (in Warbirds it was even worse, since the gunnery was more easy).
And the solution is not within the game. There is nothing to be done about it. It's only connected to yours and the attackers pingtime. Actually we don't play in real time. The higher the ping, the more obvious this becomes. To make it simple: Say, you have a poor ping of 500, as well as your attacker. This means that on his computer, all the moves you do he will see a full second later on his PC. This means, when he comes down on you and starts shooting, the mess begins. YOUR PC: You break away at what seems to be the right moment (just before he reaches gun solution with his nose). He shoots, you see the bullets missing closely, but get still hit. Here is why: HIS PC: He comes down on you, gets solution and starts shooting. He and his PC will see and thereby calculate your evasive a full second later than it was actually happening on your PC. Or, vise-versa: When you break away just at the right time, he has already opened fire on his PC. So, he sees his hits on his PC, and you feel them on yours http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif. It's not only true for this situation, but for any. Also when you are already in a turn. Because hits are determined on the shooters PC, and all your moves, including the resulting offset, is only existant 1 second later for him. I just looked at the picture: Wow, this lag was more than 1 second. Probably the sum of your ping at that moment was around the 2000-3000 milliseconds. This can be the result of a host overestimating his capabilities in max-numbers of players, or one of you was guilty and had a crap connection. I usually don't join servers with a ping higher than 300 to avoid things like that. A server with 500 or more in HL often results in players flying well above the 500, or jumping pingtimes from 500 to 2000.

packet loss guys...product of a bad connection not the sim.....same thing that will cause aircraft to run along the ground at 1000 mph....it happens...nature of the beast I guess.

I noticed this too while flying in externals a planes shots are completely missing on my screen but hes getting hits, the netcode doesnt really seem that much better. but now it just seems like smaller short warps but theres also the warps of planes that cross thousands of miles. before it seemed like no warp or massive warp now it seems like 2 kinds of warp.

and its not my connection or the hosts, all very low pings 40s-100s.

Maybe some officials can take a look on this issue. For me it is more important than more and more (AI) aircraft.

Your ping may not be the issue.... I've had a 23 ms ping to people and see them all over... It's either them or he host at that point. Make sure to set IL2 @ cable/dsl or your appropriate connection speed...don't use 14.4 the HL default...edit the HL.ini to reflect the proper speed (equal to IL2 conf.ini) and save.

Hunter what do you change in the hl ini, i remember trying this once to cable/dsl speeds but then was unable to connect to any games.

Can you post the HLpro.ini in the forum to change it to cable/dsl

This issue is definately NOT LaGG. I had this also some months ago in Il-2, and the pings there were brilliant, and it was very fluent - almost no warping. There were 2 planes: me and one of my squadmates. On my screen we were more than 500m away, even with ~250m alt difference. But on his screen we just collided! Then, some ms later on my screen both planes went up, with ~500m distance in between. But there was absolutely no warping ATM.
Looks similar to the track issues BTW.

thanks hunter seems to be running so much better now and my ping is 25 in some servers now.

I still notice the short warp in certain servers or the warping 1000s of meters warp. I was just wondering does it do that when hitting the quick record track key?

Any interuption can cause a player to look like they are warping

Screenshots,Track recording start, Skin download.

I turn off skin download on my system and server...very little problems with many moving ground targets on a scripted server with 27 people in DF.

Skin download presents a large problem (IMO)if the skin is not cached already. Never empty your skin netcache /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif Open it and set to thumbnail view, any file that does not display a picture or shows a bmp icon delete. This is an incomplete skin download that when the system tries to render causing warping ( IMO ). I have seen many time no issues on skins pre-cached. A user comes in with a new skin that gets corrupted in transfer and then the warp comes....this is usually caused by packet loss....

On average you can get 3-4 bad skins,regiment bmp's per server easily. These guys warp like crazy....servers should ask if they have skin download on any user who is warping to switch to a stock or another skin and see if it continues..if it doesn't you know the culprit /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif .

You still need to pre-load static ac (IMO)to reduce spawn stutter. It also seems to take an extremly long time in comparison to pre-patch to select AC. When ac join on default maps you get a hang/pause as the AC is loaded....


Post Patch it also seems after leaving a game to take a rather long amount of time to release memory used... I'm still trying to check if it's system related but have talked to and tried many systems AMD and Intel from low to high end and all exhibit the same problem. I'm not convinced of a memory leak as of yet though. I'm checking graphics memory alocation also for this.

I'm hosting the IDC_Server on Hyper nightly from 7PM est to 12 AM usually if you want to check it out.
