To quote from their news update :

" Matrix Games and X1 Software (www.x1software.com (http://www.x1software.com)) announced today that Case Blue, the first of two expansions due to release this week for IL-2 Sturmovikā"ž¢, is now available for sale from the Matrix Games website. Case Blue is compatible with the ACE Expansion pack and can be purchased online from the Matrix Games Online Store.
Case Blue is available by digital download for $19.99 and will be available in a shipped boxed version within two weeks (my edit : these guys learn fast ! " two weeks" http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif).

Case Blue places you into the role of either a German or Russian ace pilot. With your wit and skill you will battle either for a second German advance further into Soviet Russia, or mount the Russian defense against the German Luftwaffe. With over 1,000 different missions, Case Blue packs in a lot of entertainment for flight sim fans on a budget. Enjoy over 400 multiplayer co-operative missions and over 550 single player missions that will keep your eyes as busy as your hands until the end of the war.

Case Blue requires either IL-2 Sturmovikā"ž¢ or IL-2 Forgotten Battlesā"ž¢ to play. IL-2 Sturmovikā"ž¢ is a registered trademark of Ubisoft. Neither of these expansions is officially produced or endorsed by Ubisoft or any other third party. "(end quote)

Their other release is The Last Days, which should follow shortly (in "two weeks" ?)

So I have a fun game I'd like to try. Lets turn the marketing talk into human understandable english (it's a game which is similar but not to be confused with turning engineering talk into english).

My understanding from this post, which can also be found here:
http://www.matrixgames.com/default.asp?URL=http://www.matrixgames.com/news/news.asp?nid=183,
is that Case Blue is a campaign expansion pack for IL-2 and FB, but which will not work with the PF stand alone. I think that sums up all that was said or innuendoed in that discription.

Now my question is this: I have always thought that the whole campaign aspect of IL-2 has been the weak side of the game. Is this just adding more missions to the existing campaign system, or is it changing the way campaigns work so that they will be more similar to other games' campaigns and making IL-2 more accesible to the rest of the world?

Will these campaigns start off insanely easy with a helpful instructor to guide you through taking off and landing, and through time you become the world greatest pilot with lots of voice acting and cut-screens thrown in throughout, or will it be a hodge-podge of campaigns and be similar to what I can go download myself off of websights?

If this is a shift in how IL-2 does campaigns, then bravo, I'll be first in line to buy it. If it's just a compilation though, I'll download some more on my own once I finish the ones that are in IL-2, and FB, and Aces, and PF (which may take awhile).

another stolen skins pack, look on the back right bottom of the boxs whos skin is that http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I despise your people charging the same price as the game for a stolen skins and random generated missions pack for so much.

I also blame 1c for allowing this and ruined missions being cached and useable online that we had from sturmovik.

The fact that they say for Il-2 OR Forgotten Battles means that it is a static campaign package, because the original Il-2 couldn't accept a dynamic campaign. That makes it unlikely to have the MSCFS-style instructional missions, although you might be able to create a Takeoff, In-Flight, Landing and Crash tracks monologue.

It is a huge package of missions, so I'd question the quality, based on just the maker's say so. I gather that it's been out in the German/eastern European market for a while, though, so I'd be curious about what our friends there think of it.

cheers
