He Silent, remember the discussion we had about the Zapfenstreich ?

Someone posted the Zapfenstreich in front of the Reichstag (from which i took the pictures back then) on youtube.com http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Or better said the first 4 minutes.

It was made as a part of the celebrations for the 50th birthday of the Bundeswehr.

I dont know if you have a subwoofer connected to your laptop but you should turn its volume up a bit. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

VERRy impressive, if we tried that in our army somebody would get hurt! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

The Silent O had to be Adjutant once for a Brigade change of command...I had to bark off commands (this was in Bamberg by the way). Although I was not the Brigade Commander, it was pretty impressive to have all 500 Soldiers react to your commands...

...I had good training from my jumpmaster days by having to yell commands over four C-130 engines...

Yep, it was much fun with the "K√¬∂niglich Bayrischen Gebirgmarine". The "Berittne" is in Bad Reichenhall, i've been in Mittenwald. The only "J√¬§ger"-unit with the full equipment and, as result, one of the most stupid order of the whole Bundeswehr. Since we had armored carriers, every soldiers had to spend a certain amount of time inside, therefore, if beer or other stuff was needed, we went on shopping tour with the transports. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

To make the comment of "jumping from a perfectly good aircraft" more ironic, The Silent O also has a degree in aerospace engineering...It's like a doctor killing a perfectly healthy patient http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Hmmmmm...we were always told "it's just another way to get to the battlefield..." It really sucked when you got on the ground and your only means of transportation was your LPCs (Leather Personel Carriers, i.e. Your Boots!).

So, it was always 2 minutes of pure exhilaration (parachuting) followed by 6 hours of a 12 - 18 mile road march with full gear.

It does have it's benefits tactically, It gets alot of troops on the ground very quickly...Our little Panama operation is a good example of that. The Silent O still remembers the lights of Panama City off in the distance...

Here's some kid jumping on a dropzone I've done many jumpmasters over:

Heh Silent, have you heard about the "Gryphon" or "Greif" like we call it, glider system that is in development for our Fallschirmj√¬§ger ?

I heard the u.s military has great interest into that project.

They showed the prototype in a hangar at the air show Berlin but sadly the batteries of Celeon‚¬īs camera passed out before he could make some pics. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

The prototype there had an even cooler looking helmet http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

With it you look like a Marvel Comics action hero http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

It can be filled with lots of equipment a single airborne soldier could never take with him on its own. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I take it that the new superman movie has opened in Germany?

I think something like this would only be used by our Special Forces...I can only imagine the chaos of issuing this Gryhon to our regular (need I say 18 - 19 year old) paratroopers. They would be trying to snipe each other out of the sky!!!!

Hmmmm...if this fails with the military, I see a new sport skydiving future in it!!!

The gasmask ceremony would be a big deal actually:

1) drinking age in any state is 21.

2) looks as if there is coercion involved, that type of hazing is strickly forbidden.

Actually for physical fitness sometimes we used to go running with the filters in. Talk about a hard time catching your breath http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif Even more fun when the heat and humidity was high. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif

We also used to do picket runs where we used to run with metal long fence pickets (to construct barbed wire fences with). They were about 15 to 20 lbs each. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif

CEL your Fallshirmjager Drop Zone looks nice! nice soft farm land. The_O once landed on land like this in Eastern North Carolina and ended up right next to a real live cow! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif MOOOOooooo! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/touche.gif

Its "officialy" forbidden in the Bundeswehr too , but as it is something in which nobody can get hurt...

Its widely spread and "unofficialy" accepted by the officers. It might look like coercion but its common that it goes only so far as the one under the mask wants to go. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

In the video they tell him to simply take the mask off when he cant take it anymore. And he is really good compared to Celeon http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

They were waking me and three others up in the middle of the night and they told us that if we want to belong to the unit we should get our gasmasks and report to the shower immidiatly. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

After that we were accepted and a nice side effect of that ritual was that our masks had a nice beer aroma for the next days. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Makes running with masks a bit easier because you dont have this rubber smell that makes your mouth and nose become dry so fast. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Better next to the cow than on the cow http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

An unplanned rodeo ride with a parachute coming down on you and the cow might get........ unpleasant http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I also found this vid here. I dont know if you can get the joke without understanding what they are saying but its all about the hero that is shooting over that jeep.

He fires like hell but has problems to hit the little targets that pop up on those small hills. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif The music fits perfectly to this and he is playing the clown. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

In the end he has no ammo anymore and grabs a stone http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif "They can hide ! " "But i will get them !" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Then he waits but no targets are popping up anymore. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

This could be Celeon ! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/351.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

M√ľller, Schmidt, Schmitt, Meier, Mayer, Maier and so on are everywhere in Germany. Surname endings with -huber or -gruber indicate to Bavaria but how it is with Prussian ones, kan blasn Schimmer (no idea).
Ah... wait. Endings with -chen like Schmidtchen are northern. With the exodus of the WWII everything got blurred. Hmm, Titze sounds northern, Satzinger is for Franken also M√ľnich (very special tribe http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif), endings with -witz are more Prussian.

Hey Celeon, how long was it, since you've been to Bavaria (the part not called Franken)? Your Bavarian defintly needs some training http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif.

The armbands with the units name are no SS invention they existed long before them but there is something else on the gala uniforms that was taken from them.

Look at this photo of the music corps of the SS and you will notice what it is.

The idea of wearing tie‚¬īs in combination to the gala uniform was propably a nazi invention.

NSDAP member and soldier in one person thats was propably the message behind this habit of clothing.

Im not sure about the white gloves. This could always had been so.

German uniforms is a topic you can write dozens of books about. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

For example they wear brown gloves on that pic and have black belts. On other pics they have white gloves and white belts. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

The only thing which is typical are those shoulder pieces with the stripes.

These show that they are musicians. No one else weared them.
