I have just ordered the game and am wondering how the controls work...do any of you guys fly without a mouse?? or will i need a joystick to fly? sorry if this is a stupid question but i need to know..

You must get yourself joystick in order to play with full immersion. You may play with keyboard + mouse combination but you will get frustrated... and you will perform badly.

Don't be afraid to ask. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Like Kuna said: go get a joystick!

You can "control" the planes with the keyboard, but not with the mouse.
The mouse is used for viewing.

A simple cheap joystick will do for now, but once you do like PF (even like it just a bit) go get a good one, as the control of the aircraft you are flying is very important!

As for contolling aircraft, this thing is more like a sim than like a game!

Have Fun!

so can someone show me a link for a joystick that is cheap and will work...i cant afford much

that is what I am currently using. There are other good joysticks (with reasonable prices) on the market too.

I am sure that other people here will give you more reccomendations.

I have been flying with keyboard for about a month now and have some success.

You can still have pleasant flights using hte keyboard and mouse, just make sure you dont hold the direction keys down or else you will over turn instantly and stall, you must keep tapping them to get a turn. The faster you tap, the tighter you turn.

I have a K/D of 2:1 using keyboard on 334th, it was 2.5 but gone down now. So it is possible.

I do keep meaning to get a joystick but never seem to get round to it, flying with keyboard is better than no flying at all.

You definatly need a joystick,

If you dont have much money I would recommend one of the following 30-50 dollar range.

You can even get a cheap axis gamepad similiar to a playstation controller with 2 axis's which can produce incrediably good results in this game.

Saitek X45 Hotas*
Saitek Cyborg Evo
Logitech Extreme 3d Pro

If you have the money go and get a

Saitek X52 & CH rudder pedals
CH Trottle, CH stick, CH rudder pedals.

also look into getting a TrackIR3 which helps many out. Also its imporant to get a HOTAS seperate throttle with rotary knobs for using elevator trim.

Pedals are used to control aircraft rudder. Since you have that control on joystick (make sure that you check that joystick has it) you don't need pedals. You need only joystick, and I will infact reccomend only joystick in the beggining.

After some time if you see that you like the game, switch to HOTAS+Pedals, or some more expensive stuff than twisty joystick...
He he Leadspitter I see you have again changed sides... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

yes go for a cheap and cheerful stick only, as you are on a budget, see if you can pick one up with a throttle lever or wheel on it and possibly at least one top hat.... what country are you in? i have seen saitek ones that would do for about 10 to 20 range.... Alternate see if you can get a cheap second hand one.... Keep an eye out for bargains, Saitek did a superb X45 stick which was 2 seperate ones, one being a throttle and one a joystick, this was about 80+ when it was discontinued, PC world in the UK sold them off at 9 and i missed them http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif

I'm about to order from that site Bearcat. My MS Sidewinder Precision 2 is finally going wacky after 4 years.

Last week it wouldn't recalibrate to compensate for lack of upward elevator response. Restarting the PC made it work again. Tonight, it won't recalibrate to compensate for lack of right roll response.

Maybe it will work again tomorrow? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif
