Yes i get the feeling we have Abraxa to thank for some of these stuning works of art and looking in the read me I feel one person that really Deserves a lot of credit is none other than Ferdinando "Veltro" D'Amico, a lot of you do not know him, but believe me he is behind a lot of the Mediterranean and Italian Theatre Skins you have today http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif he is a walking encyclopedia of knowledge on these subjects and he is also an Co Author of some of the definitive books on the subject http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I have worked with him before on some of my skins........... I also count him as a friend http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

South russian front, stalingrad.

My understanding is that the Italian air force participated in many areas (example BOB) but did not have the numbers to really make an impact. These planes were apparently produced in the hundeds not thousands. They were used on the easternfront and in campaign mode you will run into the 202 at Stalingrad and maybe other places? Much thanks to the makers !!!

from august 1941 to january 1943 one italian fightergroup fought with mainly Mc200 at the easternfront.

this Group got 14 (not more !) Mc202 in September 1942 !

To answer Hugohugo, the Italian expeditionary force had a Gruppo (the 22nd I believe) in the Stalingrad area. Most of the aircraft were Macchi C.200's, but 12 C.202's were distributed between the three Squadrigila (356 for sure). Most of the photo's show them at Stalino near Stalingrad, but they operated out of about a dozen airfields in the area.
Abraxa and the others could correct me on the details. I believe the C. 202's were an early series, Series VII approximately.

it was first the 22? Gruppo , than ,from may 1942 on, the 21? Gruppo.
each one had 4 Squadrons.

Thanks Franky, I am at work away from my resources. Didn't they all return back to Italy shortly after Stalingrad as the Italian ground forces were swallowed up in those battles?

Very good cockpits.Feels like home http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Very crappy armament although more tracer rounds definitely do the job.Enemy engagement from max 160m.

Flight characteristics similar to Gustavs.

Very competitive with most fighters.

NOTE:Check the IARs.FM changed again hehe

Very nicely done, indeed! The MC 200 is a sweet, if slow, ride. No handling vices that I could find. Took on a Hurri Mk IIb offline and managed to shoot it down--but only after expending nearly all my ammo. Sitting dead astern and letting loose did nothing but chew fabric off the Hurri's tail and midsection.

The cockpits of the 202 and 205 are really well done. You get the sense they were somewhat cramped. Half the time I want to rip the rearview mirror out in order to better my view forward and up.

The late serie 205 has great hitting power and only sacrifices a bit of maneuverability for those 20mm wing guns. Downing a P51B offline was no problem: one quick burst and it was in pieces. Convergence is key, though.

Yes I thought that the Mc 200 could use another set of guns. Really have to line your shots up to a vital area to get a kill. Kind of fun -more of a challenge. Not like an FW190 where if you line up behind and fire you see it disintigate from and the high power guns and cannons.

The MC.205 III has great firepower!! And I love the sound the guns make!! I blown into itsy bitsy pieces several Mosquitoes, Spitfires, P-51s and P-38s with it's guns today!!

That MC200 is beautiful. Stall turning off the zoom is great fun.

Must be the best patch ever http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

MC205 is great, I agree. Good handling, great accelleration, resistant to hits, good climber and diver alltoghether a smooth flyer. Feels much like a g6/AS and shots like a Spit Mk VIII. Nice instrument pannel but poor view from cockpit, mostly rearview, simillar to G2 but it's a matter of getting used to it I think. Can fight everything and is very very good looking. Great addition to the Sim.

MC 202 III is really wonderful! weak weapons and all, lovely cockpits. Most enjoyable patch for years. The MC200 is a blast to fly! like a racecar.. but a bit slower.
Only thing I found to complain about is the size of the gunsight, and that it misses the reflector when not looking straight into it. [The beta 3 size of it were easier to aim with, and looked better]

I really like these birds! The later two have okay armament, too and they handle so nicely.
Actually the 109 seems friendlier, too. Excellent.

They're great all those Italian birds!
Especially de 205!
And cockpits are amazing!
I am superhappy we finally got them! Thanks to all of you guys who worked on them!

I have 2 questions:
1) Which is the difference between MC.202 serie VII e XII?
2) Why that plate "Radiogoniometro" under the clock?

I know what radiogoniometro means (I am Italian, you know? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif).
I just wonder why there is such a tag on a cockpit where there is no "Direction finder" (maybe "Repeater compass" would be better!)

Thanks Veltro and Taylortony for pointing the link to the skins.

And yes, Taylortony is correct. Ferdinando D'Amico really helped me a lot to reproduce some historically very accurate skins.

Ferdinando is also the author of the best books around on the ANR activity and camos/markings.
Just don't miss his readmes in the ANR skinpacks I'm going to release.

As a further info for you all, it was my intention to send Oleg a new set of updated skins for this very same patch. The ones we have are more than one year old and the quality of my present skin appears to be improved since then (or at least I hope so...http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif).

Unfortunately, there was really no time for replacing them, but together with Oleg, we agreed that I will provide him all the historical skins I'm currently releasing (more than 20), plus NM and generic skins for the Regia, ANR and ICAF.
These will be inserted in the Platinum's folders.
Hope this will contribute to create better and more realistic campaigns and missions. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Stalino is currently known as Donetsk and is, as the crow flies, about 500 km from Stalingrad- hardly qualifies as being nearby.

I agree absolutely. The MC-200 is outstanding; a delight to fly! It's acceleration was great and I cleanly smoked a P-47D-22 (Though, it was hardly a fair fight as I have not yet set the pilot skill levels in that Valhalla basis mission so the AI was only average, but still; the fight lasted about 20 seconds).

Bug:
However, the compass was off. It said I was flying south when I was flying east and north when I was flying west. It was not because the Italian word for East begins an S (I do not know what it begins with, BTW, as I know little Italian) as the next number over was 21 (for 210, of course).

I dunno about you guys, but for me the MC 202/205 has some vicious stall/spin tendecies. Can't do more than a 15 degree (roughly) turn before getting flutters, any more and it whips into a spin, and can't get out of it after 1000m of height. I think I've mostly been flying it online against more nimble aircraft i.e. Spits, but can anyone give any pointers? And from 450kmh onwards, it has very poor turning quality. For me anyway http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

These planes are nice, but they aren't usable in axis dynamic campaign. I tried, but I only achieve an error: "Russian plane (MC_200_3) selected for German campaign".
Do you know how to change it?

Absolutley lovely planes! They look stunning inside and outside and they bring a a good wealth of fresh air to the game. These crates should become honourable members of the distinguished Cr@p Planes Club (TM).

Thanks to all involved in making these gorgeous planes.

My mistake; I was flying the 205, most advanced variant.

Has anyone else had the compass problem?

Here is the proof: 0600 over Yevpatoria heading Est -

I now know that in Italiano South is Sud, East is Est.

The compass is 90 deg. off. Hard to get used to while waiting for a fix http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif really confusing when flying on full real servers. Lots of empty space have been invaded by me while flying in totally wrong direction.
