Hi all,

I've read around these forums a bit and still am a touch confused about what I require.

I want to buy IL-2 Sturmovik Ultimate Edition (complete Edition) that has forgotten battles ace exppansion and Pacific Fighters which will apparently give me everything up to patch 4.04.

Simply is this pretty much everything that I need ot get going?

Thanks

Pretty much, u can do a search on these forums and find the exact patch order. Then u will DL 4.50m to be up to date.

Software wise that ia all you need.It patches you to 4.04m(the merged install uses the "M" version of the patches)There are now some 4.04m servers and some 4.05m servers.4.05m is a new pay addon. It consists of the Pe-2/3 and some variants.some new missions also.Only like version numbers can play online together. It is not necessary but if you want 4.06m or 4.07m(more pay addons to be released in the future) you will need 4.05m first.

Exaclty what they said. Buying the DVD is the easiest way to go. I have done both and trust me, patching incramentally can be a witch with a capitol "B."

Anyway, I highly encourage you to download the Pe-2 addon, which adds flyable Pe-2 and Pe-3 (multiple versions of each) as well as a bunch of ground objects. Also, in order to get the new Manchuria addon, you will need Pe-2. It is worth getting just to get the Manchuria addon. It will basically be a Japanese add on. But except for those two, The Ultimate edition is by far the best way to go http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Seeing as it takes a download for Pe-2 (4.05m), might as well consider getting the whole enchilada with this download:

Purchase, download, and install this and you will be up to snuff (date) for everything. No patching required.

Does this version work OK "as is" or do you need to de-boontify it to get rid of memory crashes like you do with PE2 ?

It doesn't matter what version you have, all versions need to be deboontified. BTW, Save your original EXE's in order to deboontify.

AS I said I am new.

Could someone explain in simple laymans terms what "deboontify" is please.

Thanks

Thanks for that. sounds like I have a lot of work to do if I want the PE-2 patch. I assume I won't require this straight away but would be prefered when I want to play online?

You want the IL2 Complete Edition DVD not the ultimate... I think the ultimate thing is the original IL2, Lomac and PF... and it is sold in stores.. you want the Complete DVD with FB,AEP & PF.

Boonty Box was a installer program that UBI put on the Pe-2 add on...that cause a lot of anyurisms, stress and genral mass hysteria in tyhe FB community. Some felt that it was super spyware and would send all of your personal information to the evil dark sinsiter group of folks who meet in dark smoky rooms and plot to take over the world..

The reality was much less dramatic and a way was found to actually remove the software once the sim is installed so the whole wave of panic was rendered moot.

Actually, I only fly offline. I have Pe-2 and love it. That is a great plane to fly. You have to look at the situation in the right light, though.

Pe-2 gives you a twin engined aircraft for russia, giving every country a twin (Me-110, Mosquito, Beaufighter, P-38, A-20, B-25, G4M Betty, He-111). Pe-2 also sets you up for manchuria, which will add Ki-21 Sally, Ki-27 Nate, A5M, N1K2 George, A20C Havoc and more.

Also, one last point. We have gotten alot of planes free over the years. In FREE patches we have gotten planes like the Mosquito, Do335, G4M Betty, J2M3 Jack, Tempest, B-25 Mitchell, several spitfires. The point to be made, and I personally feel is that we are supporting this wonderful DEV team for passed work they have contributed. And I have no problem paying for all 3 addons because I have been more than impressed with thier work http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

This is what I'm getting here (http://www.gpstore.co.nz/Games/1513968.html)
Maybe it's labelled differently here but it looks like the correct thing.

Thank you for all your help I think I probably will get PE-2 eventually when I have learned how to fly etc.

Yeah thats it... notice they call it te ultimate.. but the box says complete....which is confusing as h@ll because there is a UBI product called the ultimate flight sim collection.
