I thought it would be fun to have a tank in this flight sim that you could get into, drive around and shoot things up with.

Lacking that, I got into a P-39N1, and with it's trycycle landing gear I found I could drive it long distances over IL2 maps. When I got close to a target I would get on a hill and drive to different parts of it's curve to alter the trajectory of my shots.

Now, if someone added a top turret and heavy armor to the P39 with a 88mm cannon and switched the skin for that from one of the tanks in this sim, you could have a crude but usable tank.

Added to a coop it could even have separate drivers and gunners.

Steep hills are kind of a pain in the butt, but again, it is crude and maybe having any at all is better than having none.

The same could be done to a gunboat, using a floatplane for the base.

Yea, there are tank sims and boat sims so why would a flight sim need this?

Because I would like to fly ground attack vs. something besides AI for one reason. It would be cool to do ground attack vs. tanks and boats if the AAA gunners and pilots of the vehicles had human control.

Imagine trying to bomb or shoot a tank or ground vehicle when it driving around hiding behind buildings and trees, reversing and has a separate human gunner firing at you the same time it is moving?

Sounds like fun to me.

that sounds dangerously like mod territory for you J.

Interstingly, there is a mod for a drivable jeep/kubelwagon with a machine gun on the back, and they did actaully use the p39 as the basis http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

it is really cool in co-ops, and makes a change to the norm, with some of your friends buzzing around on the ground shooting back up at you, quite good fun doing airfield attacks in the desert with these jeeps as well!

B-25s make great runway denial weapons. I was flying on Vinni Puh Il2 server and landed a B-25 at the enemy base after destroying all the flak. I then proceeded to drive it around much like a tank with a bunch of 50 cal guns instead of a cannon.

Works great http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

wasn't there a ground wwII game created from the IL2 engine some time ago?

The problem in using some modified plane's FM for a tank is that if you manage to get enough speed you may actually take off... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

They may not be able to take off by themselves, but we cannot say flying tanks are a impossible thing. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
