View Full Version : A little jealous of CFS3

Is it just me....I'm a little jealous of the way CFS3 can add-on player modeled planes and scenarios (ex. they have a Korean War w/Mig 15 and Sabres)
I also play offline so UFO's and cheating are not a factor.

The only ones that I am jealous of are the 1.22 testers flying my beloved P-38.

Seriously, I know where you are coming from, but with the IL2 plane-set growing, and the available skins, I am satisfied . . . sorry, but CFS3 is also a very sore point with me. I have it installed, but I can only run it at very low settings. . . and you would be surprised at my sys specs. . . I should be able to run anything that is out right now.

I'm most definitely not jealous since doing so would open a whole new bag of cheat worms and I almost exclusively play online.

I can't speak for CFS3 (cuz I didn't play it for very long), But I remember that in CFS2 99% of the free aircraft were crap, and the only way to get quality crates was to pay for them. So I'm not jealous one bit

Same goes for FS2002. I used to D/L lots of a/c, but most of them were crappy. Every now and then you would get quality, but most of the time, the model sucked.

I don't mind the "official" a/c releases. I would be peeved if Oleg and crew weren't releasing any, but they are keeping up pretty well.

definitely not glad!

It would be a nightmare playing online and getting everyone on the same page

Imagine the leaked beta patch everyday, a new change - lol

I guess I would be jealous if i could get the d@mn thing to run decently on my system. As it is I will stick with FB and be content.

CFS3?

Mine was back in the box a long time ago and it's out of sight somewhere because every time I look at the box it reminds me that my buddies were right when they DIDN'T jump in and buy it like I did.

Yes "it's good we have alternative sims to enjoy" ... [did a Microsoft employee coin that phrase?]. But I've enjoyed simming a lot more since CFS3 went back in the box.

It's a trade-off:

1) FB = quality control with less addon aircraft and objects;

2) CFS3 = degraded quality with more addon aircraft and objects.

I'm a happy camper now with FB. Have been learning about Europe and Eastern Europe and have been meeting some great people in the process.

Respectfully,

OC

I never cared for the cockpits in the 3rd-party planes. Since I use TrackIR, the 2d versions didn't do a thing for me. Don't get me wrong. I like clickable cockpits. But, in my opinion, B17II pulled that off better, WITH 3-D cockpits. As to the other comments, CFS3 runs fine at highest settings for me, but there is no noticeable improvement in doing so. Now, if I could have FS2004 weather in IL2, THAT, would trip my trigger.

The majority of the free models suck. So stick with the guys that luv detail and fly in the cockpit and admire the time and effort that went into it. Im tried of seeing wonder woman rooms on hyper lobby. I have done models before and the stuff that they are producing is beyond great. You have no clue so to all you wanna be hud flyer get ur butt in the cockpit.

I tell ya one thing about this game it sure is nice to see no 3rd party add-ons to make the game prone to modifications and cheats.
It also was a great history lesson for me learning more about what happened in early Russia and flying the aircraft that was available on that side of the War.
As an American, I really feel narrow minded for living my life not knowing a single aircraft flown by early Russia only to find out through a game. When IL2 was released, I had no idea what a YAK, an LA or even an IL2 looked like or even heard of one.. Jealous of CFS?? Certainly not.. It is totally biased towards allied aircraft, and that's where it was and is intended.

I bought MSFS3... but happily... never opened the box and was able to return it to Best Buy.

I don't regret it one bit as IL2 and IL2 FB ROCKS!

Jealous...why bother...regardless of horsepower (cpu) its still will not run enough fps. Open code means endless cheating. Its OK for Flight Simulator since there is no competition but for online fighting its a disaster.

This is really a dead horse...but I am at work watching the minute hand tick down to 5pm and my sprint home. See you tonight on Hyperlobby and VEF

Happy New Year

first post(woohoo)
anyway, I have played FB and (used to) play CFS 3 a lot. FB is far superior to FB in every respect, we ahve better sound, MUCh better AI and the flight dynamics in FB make CFS3's look like a joke (they are) plus BF has much better online play.
As for the 3rd party stuff; i am a big fan of MSFS2004 and the freeware out there is not "crap" as many here seem to think.A lot the freeware out there is very very good and it actualy beats the pants off some of the payware out there.(same went for CFS2)

Im not jellous what so ever of the free aircraft add-on's. Whats to be jellous about? Snoopy's dog house flyable? F4F that can fold its wings mid flight? The quality level of the free stuff is rather funny. Even the 1% stuff is sometimes visually unpleasing. The only good MS CFS3 add-on's are in pay add-ons...... Just like IL2! So whats there to be jellous of?

jealous.. Pfff... Not one single bit!!!

Really CFS3=

1. buggy FM
2. Buggy DM (always a pitch-up moment when hit by AA)
3. Really really ugly cockpits (even a Noob can see it)
4. Really simple AI (it always turns so, if your aircraft is more manouvrable, it will win.
5. The P&W of the P-47 just sounds like the Cessna wich flies over my home right now (sound issue)
6. Numerous add-ons for 30 Euro/Dollar wich contains one, single plane.

Il-2 Fb gets you:

1. Realistic FM (maybe not historical correct but, it feels alot more real)
2. Realisctic DM (same point as above)
3. Historically correct cockpits (some people doubt the FW 190 cockpit)
4. Advanced AI. You really should give the AI programmer a bit of credit. Altough it still isn't smart, it is alot better then CFS3 (I played both games but, stayed with FB)
5. Sound.. That's one of the weak point of Il-2/FB. It always have been that. Not that the sounds are wrong but, the sound engine is not good. Like the suddenly, hair-raising AAA explosions you get.
6. Numerous free patches for FB and original il-2 and the new add-on for FB wich costs us about 30 Euro/dollar and gives us numerous free plane and a few new maps.

So, I think it is perfectly understandable to have the CFS3 be jealous of us. But, I don't understand the other way around.

1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge,
ye shall be judged: and with what
measure ye mete, it shall be measured
to you again.

Cheating would run rampant !!!!
Think about it...as long as the boys up top run the show then the game remains on a level playing field for everyone.

Ah, yeah. And a pretty girl to wave at the plane taking off. BTW, some of my good friends still boot up CFS3 now and then. It may be my copy; I can't seem to find it.

I know cfs3 aint as good but it has more twin engine aircraft, which is good. And you can get force feed back with the gunners cos you can control them with yer joystick which is always a good stress reliver imho.

I agree. When I flew EAW I d/l'ed just about everything. Quite a lot of it I didn't keep, except the enhanced terrains. I kept going back the the BoB campagin.
I would rather have the limited FB planesets rather than a bushelbasket of planes any day. The gameplay and quality of FM is unsurpassed IMHO. For me, that is what FB is all about, getting enjoyment out of being able to bring it back alive in the face of adversity.

Just my 2 kopecks worth.
