Finally got IL-2 FB for Christmas.

I just flew my first mission in an Il2. I like to play on full realism settings. The compass is necessry for navigation, but it seems to be hidden behined the gunsight. Is there some way to see this?

Also, during practise missions I had the identifying tags for each aircraft turned on. I could not figure out the first set of numbers on each tag as they did not seem to correspond to airspeed or altitude (i.e. 1.45 I-16:2). I know the middle number is the aircraft type, and the last number is the place in the squadron. What is the first number?

Finally, are there any faqs on identifying the various gauges? The quick ref card identifies a few of them, and I can figure out a few of the others, but there are several that I can not figure out. They may be cylinder head temps or something like that. Where can I go for help on this? Thanks in advance!

Congrats on getting the game. It is a lot of fun.

The IL-2 compass is hidden and can't be seen. You can use the speedbar which will show altitude, speed and compass heading in the lower left corner of the screen. The compass shows up in most planes, just not in some models of the IL-2.

The first number is the distance from you in km.

Sorry, can't help you much on the gauges. I usually stick to the important ones, altitude, compass, artificail horizon, etc. I think there is some cockpit info available on mudmovers.com. Excellent site by the way, check it out. I have about ten missions posted there. You might like to download my "bombing practice" mission in the single mission folder there. Lots of ground targets to practice on.

Good luck and have fun.

Congrats on getting FB!

Some of the airplanes, like some of the IL-2s and Yaks, have the compass hidden behind the gunsight. No way around this unfortunately, besides using the speedbar.

As for the gauges, all I can offer is you ask here and we can try to identify them for you http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
