yeh but look at the size of the blower they use or take my uncles 302 in his mustang he is makeing about a 1000hp with 27lbs of boost(isnt that what the p-47 use 27lbs?)
not to mentian that he rutinely runs the motor to 7500rpm and has had no problems the relind on the bf-109 was what 2500? all that rpm and the hp to weight ratio i think it would just have been funny if u went back in time and handed that "little" NHRA blow 540 to hittler the look on his face would have been grate.

alos im asuming that these motors are very heavy as my grand father had a chain saw from around that time that was 10hp and a bout twice the size of my dads 3.5hp chain saw he just got. any body have any idea how big ie. liters or C.I. any of the motors where and how heavey they where?

Actually i ask everyone to imagine how the war would of turned out had the allied armies concentrated on destroying the REAL german war vehicle, that being the motorbike with sidecar! All our allied airmen would escape from POW camps,Indiana Jones would have to find another means of transportation and spectacular stunts/explosions/traps would have to be set off by another vehicle, maybe a Kubelwagon or the such.

But to the original question, a lightweight engine in a lightweight fighter would cut down on dive speeds yes? It might become more nimble but then the advantage of vertical combat would be all but erased, forcing the fighters into a traditional turning fight.

but climb rate would be drasticly improved so......

True, but they could offload that weight allowance by using heavier calibre weapons or more ammunition i guess. The designers would probably also be making the fighters less armoured as part of any serious weight reduction attempt. The loading of aircraft would also be affected by such a change, less of a counterbalance would be required in the aft section for instance so maybe fuel load would be decreased etc...
