Stupid, stupid http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif This weekend i forgot that Redhill and Eastbourne hosted their annual airshows (19th/20th August)
Anyway, i am sitting in my garden (Reigate, Surrey, UK) when i hear the distinctive loud purring of.........ummmm what is that? It can't be, can't be.......yes it is it is! Catalina, distinctive blue white star circling overhead.....quick get the camera!!!!!! It was so low and so clear, ran back out (tripped over dog).....no it had gone, only leaving behind a lasting rumble in the background. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif
Well, with camera in hand and eyes peeled on the horizon i managed to snap what i think is a Douglas Dakota? and group of Hawk Trainers? Managed to get a quick shot of one Hawk....wow fast and furious. So, had a great weekend enjoying a little airshow of my own, in my own back garden http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Was anyone lucky enough to be at either show? Also, I believe the Catalina resides at Duxford? Is that correct?
I am right under the flight path so next year http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif
BTW Viking Grandad, i have signed your petition U-534, if i go up to Liverpool is it possible maybe to see it from a distance? I have a good mind to head up there and organize a petition march with banner in hand http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif I have looked on the internet, but can't find many reliable updates as to what is happening or whats going to happen? Portsmouth maybe?

Hey Ali, I live in Shoreham By Sea, not far from you , and I know Reigate well. A lot of the aircraft appearing at Eastbourne use Shoreham airporft as a stopping / meeting point. This weekend we had the Harrier, Wasp/Lynx/Seaking choppers and of course the Spitfire - just beautiful, soaring thru the skies with those distinctive wings.

Shoreham has it's airshow in a few weeks. There is usually some good stuff like AH 64 Apache choppers, F16's. I'll try to get some pics from my house, cos entry to the airfield for a family of four is like 60! Here are some pics from last year people might appreciate (no, not taken by me!)

Spit, Hurricane and Lancaster - I think this is the the memorial flypast team

Harvard. This is permanantly based at Shoreham and is very LOUD! PS, you can see my house in the background (joke)

ME108, funky paintwork eh?

Not sure about this one - a P40 I think

Wow! this was a treat, Eurofighter and Hurricane

RJ, the not sure P-40? It looks like a Curtiss Kittyhawk, they were used extensively in the Pacific theatre, RAAF used them in New Guinea belting hell out of Japanese landing parties

Unfortunately, air shows are getting to be a thing of the past here in the US, Because of Base closures nation wide for the last 14 years. With all these Base Closures, I almost feel kind of Naked, Like there is no protection anymore.

Excellent pics by the way, love the Catalina picture!

The Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancaster certainly looks like the RAF Memorial Flight.

I can remember the day many years ago that the same Lancaster flew over my house while testing after it's structural rebuild at RAF St. Athan in South Wales. Such an awesome sight too!
