I saw for the 1st time this morning AI planes diving into my carrier on suicide missions. I had placed on their waypoints to bomb the USS Fletcher, and the O'Bannon not far away, but after I launched from the Lex and scattered their formations(there were 8 planes in all) it seems they decided to just Kami into my carrier, which was a suprize to me. I am pleased to see a change in their behavior for the sim because I had never had that happen before( I always use Aces). Usually when I attack an incoming formation of fighters on a bombing mission they drop their bombs and go into a dogfight with me, but these guys were'nt dropping their bombs, they were just flying right into the carrier, and boom.

I stopped 5 of them, but my own ship's AAA put friggin holes in my plane as I was going after the enemy. ( I wish I could stop friendly AAA when I am chasing enemy planes, I hate getting f#*@- up by my own ship.)But I was loosing fuel and had engine failure on the way into landing.(60 sec vid)

Unfortunely friendly fire between planes and ships/ground emplacements was a fact of life.

In all of the videos I have seen of enemy aircraft attacking ships, there are no friendly planes in sight. I assume that is so that the ship's AAA can shoot at every plane they see and not worry about hitting friendlies.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

If you've ever seen the new Battlestar Galactica, there's a couple of times that the fighter pilots have been warned to "Stay out of Galactica's firing solution".<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Ya, in that case I should just back off and stay the hell out of the way and come back later for a safe landing, but it's hard to just let those planes attack your ship and not do anything about it while relying on the AAA.

It was pretty standard that friendly pilots entered into a task forces AAA engagement range during a combat situation at their own hazard. Ships' AAA gunners, even well trained and experianced ones, had a tendancy to shoot at anything in their firing arc: enemy planes, friendly planes, escorting ships . . .

Oh, and Hans Solo, BTW.

Thats an interesting problem that I have always wondered about. While I was in the military I was trained to use a stinger missle and we were required to ID 50 different AC using a slideshow with 5 second picture-flashes and 10 seconds between pictures to answer. I imagine thats similar to what they did in the 40s, and of course good communuication is a lifesaver too.
Oh and, http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif for the Han Solo thing.

So, before this thread fizzles out,I just want to know if anyone else has ever had AI planes go Kmaikazi into the nearest ship like the way the ones did in my mission. I mean it was kinda freaky the way they did that, I had never seen it before. They just flew with bombs loaded right into my carrier.

I've set up missions with Kamikazi groups.
All you have to do, is set the Attack waypoint on the ships.
To get them to attack and not fly in, you have to have i think 3 way points after the attack one, otherwise they'll just dive in.
It was a feature implimented in PF just for this reason!
And it's fun as hell!<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Are you referring to my choice of tv viewing or the fact that I referenced it? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Thanks, I think it would have been smarter to just ditch it. I knew I was too high coming in but good thing I was anyway because I suprizingly ran out of fuel so I decided to go for it so I put the flaps back up and built up speed, with pucker-factor going up. I usually side slip in so I can see around the nose but I couldnt at that time for feer of dropping too fast and eating the edge of the deck, but I was able to see just enough of the deck to land ok. Whats hard is landing the ME 163(the German rocket plane) on a carrier.
