a daemon is a root proccess in unix. usually it monitors a port and forks off or delegates to a child evertime somebody binds to that port.

translation for you: very high priorty program. it eats up a lot of resources, especially because there's usually a whole group of them running. the Hyperlobby server would be a daemon.

did that help?

I think, repeat, THINK, that a daemon can also be a program that emulates a person: e.e you could have a moderator daemon that would kick people with really low scores or warn and then kick vulchers (if thats the nature of the server).

simple tasks like that would require the program to communicate with FB, which might cause hangups.

I dunno.
