Butch2K,

I am looking for more info for Halfwit about potential inclusing of the 2 following rustsatze and/or field mod to his Do 217E series in upcoming add-on for FB:

- 1 X MG151/15 cannon fixed forward-firing in the front gondola on the E-2 variant

- R19 Rustsatze on the E-2 variant: 2 X MG81Z (total 4 X 7.92mm fixed rear-firing) machine guns in the tail cone

I gather that the MG151/15 was fairly common on the E-2. Was it specific to maritime unit aircrafts ?? What percentage of E-2s were equipped with such cannon, effectiveness & use in combat ??

The R19 was probably less common, but nevertheless would make an interesting addition to the Do 217E series in FB, wether or not it is flyable. What kind of info do you have on the R19 ?? Ammo count, percentage of E series aircrafts fitted with R19, variants equipped with it, ie. E-2, E-5, effectiveness in combat.....

BTW, take a look at this link for flyable Do 217M (basically a K series aicraft with inline DB603A instead of BMW801 radials) for CFS3........

http://www.shockwaveproductions.net/firepower/manual/do217m.htm

Any info much appreciated.

Thanks Butch!

Apart from knowing the actual number of installs, I am trying to find out how easy/hard it would be to add the single fixed forward-firing MG151/15 in the front gondola and/or the R19 rustsatze (2 X MG81Z fixed rear firing through the tailcone) on halfwit's Do 217E-2 that is coming in the January add-on.

Doh !!! We are not talking about the same thing !
AFAIK R19 was the bomb compartment mod for using 50kg bombs. R23 was the M81Z install found on E-2, K-2, K-3 and M-9.
It seems not to have been a very common occurence.

OK Butch,

I do have the R19 Rustsatze listed as the 2 X MG81Z fixed rear-firing through the tailcone (total 4 X MG81 7.92mm) Could be a typo.....

Also, what about the fixed forward-firing MG151/15 on the Do 217E-2 ?? Was it mostly a maritime field mod ?? see following profile (Fliegerfuhrer-Atlantik livery - 6./KG40)

I have some Do 217E-2s profiles with R19/R23 Rustsatze I will upload to my server tomorrow. In the meantime, I am still looking for expert skinners for Halfwit's Do 217E-2 & Do 217K-1 (+ He 177A-5) skins & damage texture......31 days until November 15th.../i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif Halfwit needs some commitments fast please.

did you try to contact canonuk at il2skins.com ?

he's such a prolific and excellent skinner, maybe by contacting him directly he would accept ?

PB0,

CannonUK was high on my list. However, I believe the 3 aicrafts (He 177A-5, Do 217E-2, Do 217K-1) will require Damage textures apart from skins & 3D Max software + knowledge at this point.

777 Burnin from the new il2database indicated he would make void PSD files available shortly on the site. www/jg777.com/il2/database

I am just trying to ensure those 3 aicrafts make it in FB at least as AI as time is running out and it would definately be a waste not to have such great models & a loss for FB.

Anyone serious that can help please contact burnin on the new il2 database or Halfwit. Halfwit's ICQ is 63304480 I believe. You can also contact him by email if you signup on the Netwings.org forums.

Word of caution, I would request that only serious skinners with required experience contact him as he most likely does not need extra distractions at this point in time if he has to end over the models as it is, and there is only 30 days left before the nov 15th deadline.....

More info to come. You can also contact me at jagdmailer@apexmail.com as I can coordinate it from there.

Thanks to all.

The MG151 mod seems not to have been very common either, but at least one KG2 aircraft carried it operationnaly. I also have picture of operational aircraft with the MG81Z mounting in place of the brake housing, but it seems very rare as well. The difficulites associated with using efficiently such a weapon must have been considered as a not so needed mod.

Ah! Now I understand your rush! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Take it easy, maybe it won't be the last add-on. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Trust me, relax. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Thanks for your comments Jippo,

However, I am not taking any chances........because of.......business & economic realities, other commitments, change in directions of company policies, sometime dictated by others to boot.........

With a free add-on due any day & an upcoming payware add-on due in a few months, one has to wonder for how much longer it will be economically realistic or feasible for 1C/Maddox to support FB after that, and this is even if they have the man-power to even look at continuing supporting it later in 2004....people have whined & are continuing to whine about having to pay for an add-on to what a lot of people already consider an add-on (that is FB, add-on to Il-2).

This is not my personal opinion & I do not have any problem with paying for this add-on, but given the realities that I know of (personal experience), I am trying to help making some of the projects that are well into the advance stage making it for sure into the January pay add-on as beyond that, who knows......

The zealousness in the way I chose to help with some projects that unfortunately seem to be in difficulties may obviously change once/if we get a positive official stance from 1C/Maddox/Ubi about Il-2/FB in reference to support of the sim going into 2004 and further add-on releases or official end-of-life policy. So far, we are only going on heysays.

For the time being, I am just trying to help in the best way I can since my modeling or skinning skills are non-existing/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif !

PS: BTW, Thank you for your own personal efforts with the Junkers Ju 88. It is most appreciated, and the 88 is definately the aircraft that I am waiting on to fly the most in the upcoming payware add-on.

Regards,

JagdMailer
