Have you seen this?

The Indian Air Force In The Second World War

http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/IAF/History/1940s/index.html

Specifically;
Anatomy of a TAC-R Hurricane Sortie

http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/IAF/History/1940s/TacHurri.html

Much interesting stuff, plus a Hurricane MkIIa, b, c, d, and IV pilot's notes PDF.

Thought it worth a mention.

Great stuff. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I read about the IAF TAC/R Hurris a while ago in Spitfires over the Arakan (Norman Franks).

Exceptionally dangerous ops, flying low in pairs, easy meat for Japanese fighters.

They deployed small sections of Oscars to catch them.

This is a summary of one squadron over a couple of weeks.

Not great odds.

27th Jan 1944 - 2 pairs sent up during the day, 1 shot down from each pair

4th Feb - 2 sent out to locate advancing enemy, intercepted 100 feeet above jungle and one shot down

8th Feb - 2 shot down

15th Feb - 2 Hurris attacked, one shot down and the other engaged in a long dogfight with a possible kill

Great stuff! Wealth of material here, and this page should be of some interest to whirlwind whiners too:
