no new patches , legal trouble , trouble with publishers and so on and so on , and it's not really the same quality and feel as the original IL2 from 2000 or so .

Hopefully, it's just going through a bad case of hickups and they will go away soon.

From olegs post
" So the add-on(s) with the new planes and add-on(s) with new maps will be 100%, but later. I still think you have enough to play with the only released content of PF even stand alone, comparing to anything other released in that area. Why not to compare? "

I dont think we need to bury this game just yet!
It will live on until the next great thing comes along!

Happy Hunting !

Dead?....no.

Regrouping?...yes.

We have plenty of content to keep us busy until the unmentionable unfortunateness gets sorted out.

they should just "accidently" release the code for the game so everyone can mod it as much as they want to. this way we will always have new planes and stuff like that and they can focus all their attention on bob

All any of us can do is speculate, encourage, and hope ...

Realistically, I foresee one decent upgrade patch, perhaps in late January, and then all 1C's attention will go into getting BoB done its within project timeline. After BoB is released (and after several months and the requisite minor bug fix for BoB) perhaps 1C will create a second major upgrade patch for PF ... but I doubt it. To be realistic about this, there won't be any real incentive for 1C to keep supporting FB/AEP/PF once BoB is out (except as a 'pet' project).

When you look at all the upgrade patches, the original IL-2 had the most ambitious support and that died (for understandable reasons) when FB was released. In total FB and AEP each only had one major patch that actually added new stuff -- I don't want to be a killjoy but the stuff in the FB patch was included in AEP anyway. FB's support died when AEP was released; AEP's support died when PF was released. So yes, history tells us that this series will not be further developed once BoB is released.

That doesn't mean it will be dead online, however. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I don't think releasing it "accidently" would be a good idea. It wold just cause more legal trouble, which would further delay the official patch and would cause even more resources to be diverted from BoB

That will never happen, and you know it. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Besides, even if the code was released the question is whether anybody could understand it and interpret it well enough to create usable additions.

yeh thats right. just release the code so that we can adjust any of the flight parameters to meet our needs. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

It's nowhere near dead. It has been throught childhood and teen years and has just about achieved aldulthood. While there's little if any more growing to do, the potential of the series still has to be explored a lot to reveal all of the possibilities.

I think it can easily continue up to and beyond the day that BoB is released. I think BoB will find it tough going early on to wrest complete control from FB.

At least for awhile.

Yes, IL2(/FB/AEP/PF) is dead.

It's just a game, get over it.

I said it before, and I'm going to say it now again; some people here treat IL2 as if it is the cure to AIDS and cancer combined.

Ditch it and get over it!

Then you haven't been playing IL2 from the beginning. The first 1 or 2 months it (IL-2: Sturmovik) suffered from almost unplayable stutters.

Like de IL-2 series, PF is getting better with every patch.

There's plenty of room for expansion - between IL2 and Lock on.

The space has so far been filled up by Pacific Fighters. Next to come is BoB. An obvious filler would be the Korean War as already being looked forward to by some here - after that maybe the Middle East and Vietnam.

Game won't die for me - ever.I just hope the spaces in between get filled.

Dead?? Hardly!!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif

HL is booming most nights... I wouldnt say it is anywhere NEAR being dead. Even after the final patch and update is released it wont be dead] c'mon...... This community is still growing by leaps and bounds. This sim will be viable for some time...at least untill BoB comes out.. or something better than this...... and if no other sims come down the pike...some people may leave and move on but the die hard virtual prop jockeys will be here.

HL has been full a number of times recently, I occasionally log on and get that Hyperlobby full message. Didn't get that 6 months ago.

In terms of future development it is dead, only 3rd party addons now.Although I rather play v3.01 for 2 more years than seeing the code being opened for a longer life.

Anyway for Ubi it is dead.

Not to worry...mostly just news put out as a coverup for not getting things done. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

Unavoidable delays is the standard procedure...sick people, legal problems, grandpa died, nuclear meltdown at Chernoble, etc.

i don€t think the IL2 engine is strong enough to do Korean or Vietnam war with the much higher air speeds. It€s pretty hard to do dogfights in jets now and these are very early age jets. The engine was never meant for high speed high altitude aircraft.
