2 things,

1. first off, the newest BETA patch is out, so go grab it.

2. who here does play? i would like to hop on with a few IL2/arma players soon, rather than be "split" between solo "arma" and "il-2" p;ayer groups

Does this improve general performance? I bought ArmA and Queens Gambit after being a large OFP nut and even doing some modding but it was a slide show, even on the lowest settings it was **** while I can run other games maxed out (HL2 Lock On). Even FSX runs decently but not ArmA http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Keep us posted..perhaps it will be good enough to entice me to reinstall it.

overall the game is MUCH more playable!

for those that have a GOOD computer, framerates gave been improved greatly!

i have amd 4000
BFG AGP 7600GT, 512 meg
3 GIG corsair RAM
K8NS gigabyte mobo

and i can turn EVERY SETTING to MAX, (incuding resolution) and play at 500/1000 meters visibility, or turn everything to "normal" and play at 3000 meters. rather than everything at "low" or disabled...

those that had the (gpu 8800?) fog/haze bug.. is GONE.

its still BETA, and of course some bugs are still present, but MANY people are having a 100 percent frame increase when playing on north Sarhani. (as aslo stated in the BIS beta read-me!)

also aiming is no longer a "pixel here to pixel there" choppy movement. its is fluid.

rudder/pedal movement for helos doesnt snap back like on a pivot. that too, has a much more fluid control of the helos now.

those that gave up on it should try agian.

the biggest fix is the VOIP. they really concentrated on that so you can use TEAMSPEAK, and VOIP in conguction to break down communications from large to small groups http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The performence increase really is remarkable.
The new foliage coding does it's job.

Great patch.

Hmm, maybe I will reinstall it and give it a try, really never had the magic the original OFP gave to me.

+1.

I just find it too clumsy, I'm afraid. Also the AI, they can headshot me from 1000 yards with an AK47 while I can only just see them with a sniper rifle http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

There was one level in particular where I just gave up.

A whole load of Infantry/Tanks/BMP's are coming at you over a hill and down into a valley. I set myself up on a heavy machine gun and lost more and more patience each time I was sniped from around 1km away with an AK74.

I will giver it a go again sometime. I LOVED Operation Flashpoint, however AMRA just feels like a more jerky OpFlash with better Graphics to me.

It needs more work on the AI to make it more 'believable' and human, and also the driving AI needs massive work.

Thjey dont seem to have worked on the driving AI what so ever.

I guess you are talking about online only however, GAU. I might give it a try one day. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I really WANT to love it, however it gives me more a feeling of frustration than satisfaction or fun right now.

It just felt like a large sandbox to me, it's sterile and unpolished, despite all of its improvements. Did they port over the original OFP islands and campaigns yet? This would totally make me reinstall it. As fancy as the new map is, alot of it looks similar and forgettable, it's so much more boring than Nagova even with more and larger towns.. If Nagova got (or gets) ported and a graphical updated to it, I would be all over that in a second. (I'd be sure to bring my motorcycle too!)

I may have a look at this again.

part of the patch was to fix the "A.I. traingulates by hearing" super human headshots you had described.

(for example: the enemy headshots you from 200 meters out, when you fired only one shot...and you are laying down in a bush....of many bushes)

now its more akin to old OFP... they hear the shot, might take a shot or two in right direction..come closer for inspection, do they see you in the bush? do they KNOW you are in a bush. they may or may not overlook your position 5 meters away. they might come back, they might not. or they come in and walk in the bush, and shoot you.

OFP cant ever be ARMA, and vice versa. both have thier own magic.

BUT ARMA is getting to be like OFP with the communities mods. (remember OFP was only great a year or two later after the mods were out)

online SHINES ..IF you find a good group/squad to hang out with. i dont belong to any squads/clans, but there are a few I associate with every night, and it really brings the immersion home. most of them use TS, and in game comms, to coordinate effective plans. win or lose, its always an experience.

ARMA/OFP is ALWAYS clunky in the animation dept.... thats the way teh series always has been. but its getting better.

if you just install it, find a good group to play with, i doubt you will want to uninstall it today.

whats it going to hurt?? try it, i think you re-like it!

i'll be on the "[RS] SIGNATURE VERIFICATION SERVER" for most of the night, if you want to stop by...*which remimds me, they are on the 1.08 version, not the 1.09 beta...but beta uses its own EXE, so you can still join using the older 108 exe.

How soon till the release version of the patch?

I don't do betas.

The AK47 Carlos Hathcock sniping AI bastages are why I stopped playing as well.

It seems that AI are the same no matter the game.

unknown on actual release for patch..could be months, but they are listening to the players. (as long as players/testers state an actual problem. and not just whine)

This is why I have a script running constantly so that when I get sniped by a Makarov from 2km, an atom bomb explodes 200m above my body and wipes out everything in the game within a 50km radius. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif
