For the record, I own Forgotten Battles, Aces Expansion, Pacific Fights, and now IL1946. I LOVE these games...

.... but, why is it so flippin' complicated and difficult to patch this game? These cumulative patches are BRUTAL. Guys, get it together and create combined patches so that some poor sap doesn't haven't to apply 10 patches just to play a game with everyone else.

And UBI, make the patches easily accessible instead of providing these BRUTAL mirrors where you have to wait for ages... or worse, "sign up" to get instant access. Whose side are you anyway?

Get it together guys! I've been playing this series for several years but it boggles my mind how frickin' complicated it can be patching this game.... sheesh.

If you own 46, there is only ONE patch so far that goes over a fresh install of the thing.

Unless of course you are talking about the downloaded version of 46, then yes, by all means, whine away.

1946 has all content and patches up to V4.07.

You need not have any of the older content.

There is one and only one patch for 1946, and that brings it up to V4.08.

Airwarfare Installation and Patching Guide (http://www.airwarfare.com/guides/patching.htm) will help here http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
If you have the 1946 DVD all you need is patch 4.08m from www.gamershell.com (http://www.gamershell.com) Most other patches can be found on http://patches.ubi.com

If you have IL2-1946 then you don't need to patch anything EXCEPT the 4.08 patch.

You don't need the other games mentioned.

NOW if you just bought the IL2 46 upgrade and not the whole IL-2 1946 DVD then you need the Pe-2 aND the Sturmoviks Over Manchuria upgrades.

I took the PF Mega Patch that patches from 3.03m to 4.04m, added the 1946 addons 4.05m thru 4.07m, and then added 4.08m and created an exe out of them. So if I ever install using the FB\AEP\PF disks, all I have to do is run the exe I created after merging PF to FB\AEP and be done with it. So, come on, some things you have to do for yourself to make it easier.

I have to agree with the OP.

I have FB, AEP and PF, and patching it was a nightmare. I'm not interested in 1946, so that's not an option for me.

Ubi, give us a big, 1 file patch that make it easy for us to play YOUR games.

I have never ever had any problems with the patches. I have always found it easy enough to download the right one... cant really say I know what u lads are talking about...

I like the option to choose witch patch to have installed, but some mega patches would be good for the people that had the problems do...

other games that use patches will require only the newest patch which includes previous updates so your not looking or loading 5 or 6 patches

That's fantastic mate, but this one doesn't use that system. Those other games obviously use a better system, but this one doesn't. Enumerating the other games that do patching better won't change how this one is patched. Sorry

patching is very simple- you follow the directions. I've never had a problem other than corrupted downloads, but once I gor the patch or update, there was no problem- but I read the directions, every time before I tried to install the patch or upgrade.

I can't relate how many times a member has sworn on a stack of Bibles that he or she did everything perfectly right with patching, and had problems, but when they did it again, they discovered they missed a step or made a mistake

The major issue that I have with the way the patches work is that I have to use a portal site to do so.

It took hours to download all the patches, because I'm not a paying 3dgamers member, and had to wait in line for the patches.

The files should be hosted on this site for the fans.

Should have the patches you need burnt to cd's or a DVD and never have to worry with downloading them again. Everyone does this don't they? If they don't because they have no burner, understandable. But if they have a burner and do not burn the patches to disk, then you deserve the hell you get. HEHE

Patches, stick profiles (Including TIR or rudder pedals if you have them), Users, config,Dgen,NGen,Missions,Records,Paint Schemes, all zipped versions of any zipped utilities that you have downloaded like MM, UQMG, IL2 sticks etc.. (I always download to a specific folder and install from there then I archive the zip file) are a must.

Five and a half hours to DL 1946 and a 20 minute wait to log onto a mirror to DL a corrupted patch.
Yes, it's a miracle of modern science. In fact, the Ubi marketting team deserve a Nobel Prize! They're clearly maximised the amount of time it takes to install a game. In fact, the amount of my time wasted is almost two orders of magnitude greater than the price of the game update. Isn't that magnificent!

So, moron that I am I thought I'd give it another go.
