View Full Version : What is the first thing you'll do in COD?

Once we can get it up and running and have all our settings the way we want them that is.

I'll probably take off in a Spit and zip around the coastline taking in the graphics and the plane handling...

Then maybe make a QMB or FMB mission where some Hurris take on some unescorted Do-17's...

Get me a Tiger Moth. Take off from Croydon. Head north, find Tower Bridge. Fly through it... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Then admire the rest of the scenery. I expect I'll get back to shooting things at some point.

I plan to run extensive tests to determine...sorry I can't even type that without chuckling to myself. I think I'll try on a Spit and look around. I'm hoping to find smooth flight, great scenery and NO pop up buildings. I'd be happy with that to start.

I will mostly be flying the Hurrikakacane and attempting to rid the Dover beaches of trees and if that doesn't work i'll be bombing the living carp out of 'em with the Blenheim...don't want the Germans to think we can't look after our Shorelines.

If you can, id like to "walk" around an airfield and look at the trees, the grass, the buildings and vehicles, perhaps listen to the birds singing and watch a few ai aircraft take off or land.
Then ill hop into a Hurri and go kill something.

I love seeing the excitement and joy in some of these posts.
For me, I think it'll have to be go up in a Hurri, ideally pausing first like Mercanario to take in the sights and sounds of the airfield, then go shoot up some Dorniers in a Hurricane.

Looking forward to everyone having the same version and being happy about it again, too. I like some mod stuff but dislike the hassle.

You are right about that technicality but since this is a game I am assuming that I will be able to fly something that is carrying fifties, that is if I so desire.

Also, wasn't Gen Chennault organizing the 1ST AVG over in China about that time? Maybe they will have an eastern China map with P40 vs A5Ms, or A6Ms etc.

But one other thing I will first do is get into a Spitfire and fly low and fast over the English terrain heading east toward the cliffs. I will crest the edge and roll inverted looking 'down' at the beach as it swishes on the sand. Then I will roll 90* and dive in a turn toward the waters edge and blast dangerously low over the waves leaving behind a beautiful propeller-blast wake. After a while of joy riding and taking in the view I will take my lady back to home for some touch n goes. After I taxi and park I'm off to the full mission builder.

Oh yeah, but the very very first thing I will do is probably pig-out on Pizza.

Okay my mistake. It was wrong to mention .50 cals.

Then i'll want to shoot a few Spits down before testing how overmodelled they are/aren't , and then go online to test the new sim with buddies

Yup...it is really going to be pretty austere. Just one map I think, and only a handful of flyable and AI planes. But it will have (hopefully) a really great graphics and physics engine and lay the groundwork for a lot of great expansions to come.

I can't believe nobody's so far mentioned the sight-seeing and aerobatic potential of the Su-26. That looks like a fun ride.

I will be doing the training missions for the Spitfire and Hurricane after setting up my control assignments.

Then I will re-set up my control assignments.

Rinse & repeat several times.

Once I can take safely off and land in a Spitfire Mk I consistantly in a 'full real' mode, I'll risk the Bf 109E--after setting up a separate set of control assignments for Luftie aircraft.

Maybe I'll shave my head first, to save my remaining hair from being torn out.

Yeah, methinks the training mission is for me, if for no other reason than to get the "feel" of being a recruit to go along with the wonder of actually getting a new combat sim after 10 years.

I think I will also enjoy flying around southern England for a while, enjoying the sights. I'm curious myself how long it will be before the old bloodlust takes over and I'm looking for something to kill.

I can't recall ever seeing a photo of a 109 in the field (i.e., not on show for inspection/photo op) that didn't have a conspicuous stream from the underchin oil cooler.

Of course, it wasn't the engines that leaked oil as much as the piping to and from the oil coolers in both birds. Given the amount of vibration an aircraft creates in flight and the fact that some of that piping was flexible hose/tubing, it is only to be expected.

Well surely first thing I`ll get out of the way is checking how the game runs.
When all set, will fly the Emil for some time to determine if anything is off. That includes checking the damage modelling on the Spit. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

Xnomad
02-21-2011, 06:59 PM
Ideally I'd like to start with taking off in the Emil and flying around for a bit.

Question is this possible? In the stock IL2 you could only airstart in QMB ('scramble' has now been added but I don't know if that's from a mod or not) if you wanted to take off before that you'd have to fly a mission/campaign or design a mission of your own.

As I don't want to share the sky with enemies, just yet, and I don't want to design a mission I just want to start the game up, configure the basic controls, turn all the difficulty settings on full, select the Emil, take off, fly a few circuits and then 'attempt' to land without dying.

Probably if CEM is high, I'll just sit on the apron trying to figure out how to get the bloody thing started. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
