I'm not sure about FB,I started playing online seriuosly 4 days ago(almost exclusively on the Greatergreen server). But I do remember one thing in the original Il-2,like 7-8 months, played just a couple of times, and this thing turned me off the online gaming. Now I fly FR only, then it was with externals on,and I saw one guy(just after he shot me down, was following his plane) dissappear momenterally at about 1-1.5 km height and then reappear at like 6-7km!!!Dark -blue sky and everything!I swear to God!Boy,was I disgusted with that!/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

So,what are your observations and opinons? Is it possible?
(BTW,it was a P-39)

Most likely a freeze from packet loss or server lag, not a cheat.
Poor P-39 has been branded.

The puzzle pieces tend to fit the situation.
I've been online playing IL-2 and FB for a pretty long time and can't say I've ever seen any cheating.

I've seen the trim-on-a-slider exploit (cheat) but that was in the last days of IL-2.
UFOs are almost always attributed to packet loss or lag and server connections.

I find that if I clean my computer up a little, things run better especially from a hosting standpoint. For example running spybot software.

Actually this is one of the few games I can think of that you can safely say there is no cheating. The lag thing takes a while to get used to or packet loss. You learn to live with it...I enjoy online flying when I have time...I get shot down a lot but it is still a blast!

There is only one true cheat I know of, using 3D Explorer to force wireframe mode.

This is more of a driver hack than a FB cheat though.

XyZspineZyX
09-26-2003, 12:53 AM
The advantage to FB having really closed architecture is that its hard to modify anything anytime. Most cheats rely on modifying data (more hitpoints, speed, whatever)...FB's data is heavily encrypted and hidden in the first place unlike other games where its wide open (mostly with the intention of allowing MOD's).

So if half the battle is trying to break the encryption on a closed data set that is hard to fool then you definately have stopped the average guy from doing the sort of thing that ruins games.

I think we can rest safely assured for the time being that cheats aren't a reality that we have to deal with for now.

That no cheats are known by the broad public doesn´t mean there are no cheats in existance, and it doesn´t mean there are cheats existent either. The occurance of cheats normally goes up with the popularity of an online game, IL-2, in the grand scheme of online gaming is rather unpopular. I just wouldn´t outrule the possibility of a selected few using custom tailored cheats, if it´s Software it can be basically hacked with some motivation and effort.

lets put it this way

there are no publicly available easily downloadable hacks for FB

there is no equivalent of doing a google search for "wall hack" or "speedhack" for counterstrike and finding a dozen downlaoadable hacks you can try out.

if such hacks have been created the creators are keeping uncharacteristically quiet and discreet about them (most hackers cant resist telling the whole world what they have done)

Cheating is always possible. I've not seen, nor have I heard of any cheats; but that doesn't mean they are not out there. They are thankfully rare, very rare, or even non-existent. But if there are no cheats it's because nobody has made them, not because it's impossible.

When people phase away from you or fly sideways they and/or you are lagging. The insane amounts of bandwidth a 21+ player room has is being consumed by the information from everyones PC in the game.Since greatergreen hosts alot of people, there is alot of bandwidth being used. This causes lots of lag for poor connections.Hosting more than 12 is a waste of time unless you have at least a Cable server.Everyone will have lag spikes unless say its a T1 server but even then you better have at least a DSL connection.FB is very demanding on your PC.If it is an older PC and a 56k connection you are goin to lag like crazy. Not to mention it still has tons of Multiplayer bugs that I am sure help the lag along. As for cheats, there arent any thank god...

Point cheat yes. But there are exceptions to this case:

1) Game is flawed at times where you neiter get credit for a kill which all have experienced, even after landing.

2) Shoot a pilot and your screen says you killed your opponent. BUT..even after he is dead, a teammate can roll by and put in a quick burst and he gets credit

3) Point snatchers. Obvious cheat: Ya tear them to shreads but they technically "shot down" even after they limp to base and park... or they fly out to no mans land and struggle to stay alive. A fella can "mask " his landing to assure you that you get no points, he lands, awaits on the deck or while he is flying will quickly crash his aircraft as soon as he sees that you "RTB or successfully landed"

There is in fact a cheat. I won't say what it is as that way no one will be tempted to use it.

Needless to say if anyone's ever been downed while flying through the clouds they were cheated.

It's a game built in cheat. It's not meant to be a cheat mind you though.

Hi,

What a crap can people write. There are definitely
cheats in this game.

seen other things that i thought that cant be.

I think that there is also a cheat what refers
to shooting range.

cheating.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

You can still turn just as with trim in FB as you could in IL2.

And the way to do it now is to have it permanently affixed. (Bat-turn at any time with no slider needed)

You can't cheat in either game though. It's just turning as hard as possible.

I'd like to think that there are no cheats, but I'm not convinced that they don't exist.

My only experience where I wondered was in a FR + PL game, I was getting chased by an LA and we were scissoring hard. He stuck with me like glue. I managed to find a cloud to hide in and then get on the LA's tail. As I closed to within range, he warps like crazy, and then warped again and was gone.

I sent a message like "nice lag evasion," and he said "what, my 56 ping not good enough?" I said "So? What's the rest of your system, a PIII with 256K?" He then left the game without a word.

The server was established, very well run and had very little lag. Pretty much everyone there had low pings (<100) and the host wasn't shy about kicking people with bad connections.

The main thing is that when the LA was chasing me, I didn't see him lag. But when the situation was reversed, he lagged hard and got away. When I called him on it, he left.

Sure looked like cheating to me. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

WELL...

There is the "ATTENUATION" cheat (try the B&Z on someone exploiting this little morsel) as well as various video setting tweaks. However these are loopholes in the cheat proof closed source code not user modifications. Sound modding shouldn't be allowed just as much as any other modding. So I guess if everyone has the ability to research and learn how to implement them they really aren't cheats at all.

It kinda separates the wheat from the chaff.

in the dynamic campaign if you have a bad mission and wipes you and most of your flight the game wipes it and makes you refly without recording the deaths

I hate when people say "nice lag evasion" or "nice lag move"

I never use this and hear it all the time though.

If anything, there is more cheating in FB because of what they did to trim, but really, there are no cheats.

Yeah, me too. I've only used it this once.

Because this guy suddenly warped on a low-lag server when he got in trouble and after I had been watching him for about two minutes without any warping, I think he deserved it.

I've had a couple of folks complain of lag with me. But I think the lag was attributable to the fact that our combined ping was nearly 1000 or the server was very croweded. Ya can't help that.

Yes there is! I hae seen a 109 w/ the performance of a F-16. I have shot at a plane and hit it repeatedly suddenly zig and dissapear and show up over his base over 7km away and there was no sign of a lag and only 8 ppl. Then there is the screen shot cheat using an external pic taker. I have repeatly seen a plane I was following suddenly have convient warping after I start firing at it. but not when I am not shooting at it.

There may not down loadable cheats but there are ways that can be done to the data used. I have also seen on one server the host have only his icon show at only very short distance while everybody else was the same. These things are more seen on the medium games and not so much on the "full diffuclty but big ego" servers.

This is a common error reported by those who don't know what lag can look like. When a plane is flying straight, you won't notice lag, but once it starts evasive maneuvers, you will notice any lag present.

Do you use DirectX instead of OpenGL? I say this because in DirectX the ground textures (if behind a plane) will mask the icons. I find it hard to believe that a host can somehow make only his icons appear at short range.

I have played IL-2 for a year now steady, every night for around 2 hours, I have not see one thing that I would call cheating, I have seen trimming, I have seen using the prop pitch overreving then underreving repeatedly to gain speed fast, and I have seen horrid lag.

Everything I have saw that was wierd had an explanation to it as long as you think about it. I have flown and I haven't seen any cheats myself, I also know that I don't cheat, yet people call me a cheater at times.

I believe its just nonsense thrown around to make you feel better about losing to someone in this game, but hey whatever you need to do to enjoy IL-2 I guess.

As for cheating in FB I truly believe you can't yet, maybe in the future but at this moment in time no cheats exist, minus the wire frame hack driver thing which is rare. My answer to this is play with cockpit off then if you think its a concern. The number of people that do this is so small that I think its non exsistant as well.

I have a friend whom I have flown with for like 6 years and in CFS1 and evenin IL2 sometimes I can sit there and put a million bullets into his plane at point blank range but nothing happens (we even sat there and tested it), but he could still shoot me down.

Wierd stuff can happen online and it isn't cheating.

Easy explenation, you got to much of an ace brain so the Internet God decided for you to lose this one to deflat your ego a little. It might have worked for a while but didn't last long. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Sorry you had to of seen it coming though RBJ lol

Did you repeat this with your buddy or did this only happen once and never again?

Fennec, can you please explain this!

I have seen the video showing wirframe mode and I have difficulty to believe that someone could find pleasure flying in such a mode (regardles of how many kills he gets)....

And if I remember well you can not read messages in wireframe mode.

I saw (actually didn't see) the invisible man yesterday night.

The only problem: It was one of our wingmen !

It is funny when you have the guy asking for help, turning smokes on and the only thing you see is the bandit flying after him.

It is not a cheat and it was not done on purpouse.

It is just a bug that may occur from time to time...

LOL i couldn't work out if he meant invisible man or invincible man - (if he'd dropped the n or typo'd the c) /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

and what exactly is the advantage of wireframe mode - is it just in full real so you get a semi-wonderwoman view?
