I'll add my name to the list of people who have already said that laptops dont work for gaming unless you are spending a fortune(and even then I know which Id trust more for an all day mega session in mid Summer heat)The compact size is defeated by the need for at least a bulky joystick...

Not to rain on your parade, jolulure, but that really isn't much of a system for gaming, quite frankly. In fact, as it stands right now, laptops aren't the best platforms for gaming, period. Unless (like ytareh already mentioned) you're willing to spend more than a small fortune for the highest of the high-end laptops that money can buy.

I hope you don't plan on playing PF with the keyboard! Though that option is available, it definitely is not advisable.

You were much better off spending your money on a desktop for gaming purposes.

Sorry... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

I wish I could buy a desktop. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif I have said It is totatally impossible for me to do that. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif

Now, please, I need all you to concentrate http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

look, Dells 9400:

Core Duo 1,86
1024 DRR2 RAM
256 DRRIII Geforce GO 7800GS
1000Gb
Stereo speakers + subwoofer from creative
17 WXGA+ 144 x ....

Price is 1200,59 with shipping included. They want to end up this laptop and they are making incredible offers (at least in spain). From INtel graphics to geforce for free instead of 300", free shipping, 100" special offer, double ram for free.

I was expecting buying a new laptop in September - November, but having seen this offer, (which ends in 3 days, and this laptop will never again offer Geforces) shall I buy it now???? too good to be true!!!

Please Im dying of nerves!!!!!

Thanks

I think most people are saying something like this:

Yes, you can probably install and run FB and/or PF on a high-end laptop.

But, you may run into problems with overheating because the sim runs everything flat out from the moment you fire it up.

How much that might spoil your experience we don't know - and that is why nobody is prepared to take a decision that is rightfully yours to take

Remember that components jammed into a laptop bear little comparison with their counterparts in an airy case - even though the specs are similar. You won't get the same performance that you would get on a PC running a similar setup.

I don't think anyone wants you to be disappointed in a worthy ambition - they're just suggesting you lower your expectations to avoid that disappointment.

If you're really, really not prepared to try a small tower & flatscreen monitor, tied together in a LANparty type harness perhaps, then you've made your choice.

The Dell looks to have enough specs to do the job....and you're saving a lot of money.....but you're on your own as far as the satisfaction factor is concerned!

Thanks Brando. Well, I just fee you are too pesimistic http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif!!! Yep, heat will eat your laptop alive. You could get a bucket of water and use it to cool it off. Immerse sparingly tho. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I wish you well with the laptop. I got a Compaq Presario laptop about a year and a half ago for the wiffee, and also made it my 'B' computrer for LAN play in IL-2. Most expensive mistake I ever made. BUT, with Asus you may fair better.

The graphics you cannot upgrade (at least on mine). Although my lap has an Athlon mobile 2.2 ghz, 1 gb ram (well- 882 mb with 128 shared memory for video- ATI graphics). The best I could get is decent frame rates on medium settings. The hard drive just started getting wierd so I am replacing that. Upgrading a lap is marginal at best. IF the power supply goes, and its major to replace compared to a minitower.

Keep in mind what ever you get, thats what you'll have. I sincerly hope you fair better then I have.

I just ordered a P-4 dual core minitower to replace that laptop (so its not really ALL bad).

Best of luck, and Salute!

1024x768 24 bit resolution. Medium setting in graphics. Like I said: ATI graphics (128mb)Still choppy in spots.

Certianly not 1st rate for the game.

What ever you do jolulure, don't end up with the FINAL SENTENCE being your having to play a game you love on a piece of hardware that you will regret.

There are lots of options with even the small form factor PCs that would have you in better stead then a laptop. Even a modest PC, upgraded with a good video card, more memory, and a LCD monitor (cheaper all the time it seems: and larger than 15" too) will end up being cheaper, as well as provide MORE options down the road.

Think before you jump; look before you leap.

Best-

no it isnt that http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif. What I cant really understand, is that after you, INTEL 82852 (integrated 64Mb) is just a bit worse that Geforce Go 7800GS http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif!!!! Thats against physics!!!!

look (http://www.tomshardware.fr/hit-parade-des-cartes-graphiques-agp-ete-2005-article-3d-989-12.html)

my laptop will compare to Radeon 9800.

I thank you all for your help.
