I think that dinamic music is important to give a game the immersive element and great atmosphere. Actually Il2/FB has only three music possibilities during game-play: take-off, in-flight and crash.
I'd suggest to insert more possibilities for music themes, such as:
1) Take-off
2) Cruise - No Enemies Around (normal in-flight music).
3) Friends Sighted ("nice to see you" music).
4) Enemies Sighted (pre-battle In-flight music).
5) Battle (action music, enemy is within about 2 Km range)
6) Assigned Target Sighted.
7) Enemy Destroyed.
8) Taking Fire, battle damage, difficulties.
9) Mission Failed / Crash.
10) Mission Accomplished.

It's just a matter to allow Il2FB to work in this way. It shouldn't be an heavy work for Oleg... but adds a lot of fun!
I'm not requesting you to give new freeware music themes: most of us fans have yet a lot of exciting musics, to manually insert in Il2/FB. For example, I fitted Il2/FB with Jane's WWII Fighters and Return to Castle Wolfenstein musics... It rocks!!! Wonderful!! But it would be even better with dynamic music!
Really... it seems another game, twice as immersive!

Interesting idea, but:

-most people fly without flight music
-historically not many pilots were listening to the music in flight during WWII
-playing music during flight costs CPU power
-...thus it would add to the lag/stutter problem
-there has to be made an intelligent way to smoothly transit from one theme to another (check Jedi Outcast or X-Wing Alliance for examples)
-Oleg would have to resort to users' music only as composing all the themes would cost too much
-adding this feature only for those few who want it would cost dev team too much effort and little gain

As I said over, in my first thread, I don't want that Oleg builds new freeware musics for us. Simply, look at the directory:
C:\...\IL2..\samples\music\
Then, you'll find the following folders: Crash, In-flight, Intro, Men—, Take-off. Crash, In-flight and Take-off are normally void (so, normally there's no music during game-play). So Forgotten Battles partially allows for Dynamic Music yet.

Well, I'm just asking that IL2/FB should be allowed to recognize more folders, to improve game-play dynamic music. Obviously, the player itself should provide to add his own musics to Il2/FB.
But if you don't want or don't like to hear music during game, or you want to save system power... well, no proplem! Keep the folders void!
But if there are people (such as me) that like Dynamic Music... so there will be new exciting possibilities! And, believe to me, it becomes really a cool game!

Hi,
I allready made a few suggestions some time ago about the music (basically the idea is to have a set of empty folders for each country for the menu, takeoff, inflight and crash folders). This will mean you don't need the file naming convention (ru.wav, de.wav etc.) anymore and you will have different sets of music for each country. Add to this sequential playing of the files in these folders, it would be a very simple way of providing an enhanced music experience ingame. Also, to implement should cost very little.

Phantasy:
What I would really like is ingame radio that you could tune in to, selecting channels as you please. If you fly on line this would be a great feature to provide additional immersion. There could be a dedicated server (radio station server, not the same server as the mission server) for this playing light period music (no not the Walkure or Kathousha again). The game it self only would provide an interface for the channel switching: of course you must have the ability to turn the radio off in cockpit. Communication with your squaddies about the mission or in the heat of a dogfight comes first when needed. But it would be great fun to have on long bomber mission.

I know, maybe not many RL pilots listened to the radio, maybe bandwith issues should have priority. But I would consider it a GREAT game feature: GREAT music makes for GREAT game atmosphere.
