View Full Version : How do you modify flight models and weapons?

Every game this popular has a community that does things like changing the performance of the units but I haven't been able to find much info about this on the net.

Does anyone know where the files are that contain the plane information (speed, roll rate, armament, etc) and what format it is stored in?

Also, I'd like to be able to change the color of the text for enemy planes. Currently it is red and sometimes I lose them when diving against the green ground since I have red/green color deficiency.

I like John Wayne, but he couldn't beat up Chuck Norris.

In a fight between Chuck Norris anc Jackie Chan, I think Chuck would get beat pretty bad, but then at the last minute, when you least expect it, he'd pull some crazy move that Jackie Chan never imagined possible.

I also think that Nora is hot for Compo.

and then Bruce Lee pops up and beats both they azzes......

or something

To answer the original poster there are no moddable components to PF apart from whats in the config.ini which merely affects in game settings.

The code is closely guarded by 1c Maddox games to maintain complete control over the sim and its standards. This is done to prevent a CFS style scenario where everyone mods up what they think (or wish) their favourite plane flew like and then dumps it online against everyone elses fantasy birds.

If you have a seeing defficency you will have to take up a different game, learn to fligh WITHOUT icons or take up golf. Sorry I dont htink there are any fixes to your problem.

Fly Red?

Then you'd have blue enemy icons.

Just a thought...

Sorry, but this can not be done in this game as the code is locked up tight.

Code locked = less or no multiplayer cheaters = much goodness for multiplayer action.

But, the community has a blast building missions, campaigns, skins, and movies. Lots of things to do! The full mission builder is a superb tool.

Hunhunter...

While I'm all for giving new guys the benefit of the doubt, I do remember when I was a n00b around here...., I am starting to doubt that the new guys from CFS are really that much in the dark about the IL2 Universe. Most seem to have just a little too much knowlege about how this sim works. Now RogerBacon here seems to be truely unknowing so he does deserve some slack.

But when you look at the bulk of "new" guys here it is pretty obvious that the CFS crowd is attempting to co-opt this sim and run it down the toilet, like they did with CFS. Not that I beleive in conspiracys, but...I know thay are out there.

El, I know what you are saying, but shouldn't we let them actually DO something wrong before we hang 'em???? RogerBacon could be some young kid that was attracted over here by PF from CFS and has some pre-conceived ideas about how sims work.

These forums have long had a reputation for being elitist and unwelcoming and this sort of **** just reinforces that.

If the CFS guys want to 'defect' to IL2/PF then great, they should be welcomed. If they behave like morons then fine, flame them. But ganging up on newbies just for the sake of it is just childish.

hunhunter- I appreciate your concern for possible newcomers' sincere questions regarding this sim...however - most new guys first posts have something to do with gunsights in German planes or not being able to takeoff from a carrier...not open architecture and core mods..so I jumped to the most likely conclusion.

Besides - I wasn't hostile...I was drawling all southern home style in my minds narrative when I wrote that...not snarling or hostile in my heart atall.... well maybe a little Edward G. Robinson tossed in for grins...

My thanks to those who responded kindly to a simple inquiry. I will ignore the others (espicially the one who took a shot at my red/green color deficiency. That took real class) http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

I don't even know what CFS is but I guess it is another flight sim.
I played a space flight sim (Starfleec Command) on line. It was based on a board game that has been out for 25+ years. Over that time the game has had many different rules. Since some of us didn't like all of the rules in the final edition, a modding community developed. We could change the ships to our hears content but if anyone tried to play online with a modified shiplist everyone would get a "cheater" message in the lobby.

If people are worried about cheaters that is all they would have to add to this game. There are tons of games out there that let you modify them and there is no online cheating because of such checks in the program.

Actually, I couldn't even play online if I wanted to. I tried one time and it said I have a different version. (I have 1.02). So, even if I made F4F's going 600 mph firing lazers out my ***, it wouldn't bother anyone.

So you have the original IL2 Sturmovik then. Not Il2 Forgotten Battles. Online you will just about have to have Il2 Forgotten Battles + Ace Expansion Pack + Pacific Fighters in a merged install patched up to 3.04m Or Pacifc Figters stand alone patched to 3.04

The Original IL2 great as it was, has pretty much dissapeared from Online battles due to the new versions. Although if you find others with it YOu can still play it online against them no problem.

There is a way to change the icon colors to avoid the red/green problem I think. First check the read me & manual carefully. If I find it I'll post it -but have been a bit sick & spacey . I'm sure it can be done. You might post the same question at Sim HQ Il2 FB PF forum. Might get a little less attitude. People sem to like getting a simulated cocky fighter jock attitude for the full experience. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

It is true tha the flight models etc can't be modified. This one done in order to guarentee endles bickering and name calling while arguing over the accuracy of these same flight models. It's a Sport unto itself really. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
