Hi all,

I have uploaded a new version of IL2-MAT Manager.

This is NOT a full version of IL2-MAT Manager and contains a file to UPGRADE your existing IL2-MAT Manager version 2.21. therefore it is neccessary to have IL2-MAT Manager version 2.21 installed before installing the new file. Run the installer program to install the new v2.30 IL2-MAT Manager executable into your IL2-MAT Manager program folder.

NOTE:

As this is a mini update it is NOT required that you un-install your version 2.21 installation of IL2-MAT Manager or any MAT and TGA files located in your game folder.

Version 2.30 includes new code which allows the program to exit much faster that previously. When you exit the program only files relating to changes that you have made since last running IL2-MAT Manager will be copied thus reducing program exit time considerably. Naturally the more options you change especially to numbering/lettering options the less noticable will be the decrease in program exit speed
as these options are the most file-intensive, however, you will notice a marked reduction in program termination time under most conditions. Please note that loading saved setting using the "load" tab will always force a full file copy operation. This feature didn't make it into version 2.20 as I had intended and as I really wanted this feature included in the program I decided to do some more work on it and release it as a mini-upgrade. My thanks to the beta testers for their usual excellent and enthusiastic work in checking that I haven't broken anything http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif .

Excellent..

spitzfiya, this is the must have utility for FB/PF.(easily the best utility for the game so far)
It contains the most realistic markings for all air forces in game and more.

Be sure to check http://www.leigh-kemp.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/MATfiles.htm

Download it and follow intructions carefully in the README that comes with program. Once you get it right, you will never play this game without it..

Hi m8,

No, not really http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif, I know it looks like I've had more comebacks that your average 70s pop star http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif but I'm just tidying things up with mini-updates. v2.20 turned into a race against time in the end to meet the agreed program launch date with our sponsorship partners Naturalpoint and the "fast exit" code was too experimental at the time to go into v2.20 without further development and testing. It was 4AM before I tumbled into bed the morning of the release day and had to work the next day with the help of lots of strong coffee http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif. That's how close to the wire it got.

I will "never say never" as the saying goes http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif but there won't be such regular program releases as in the past.

All the best m8

You've done a very good job m8. A very special one. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif Although it's sad to know that it seems there wont be such a regular updates anymore but I understand completely.

Anyway, ive just thinking if it's possible (and permissible) to edit some of the tga files (such as the numbering types, fonts and colors (i know, i know, it's colours in UK http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif) for Japanese a/c. Just for my own use though...

Many thanks and salute m8 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hi m8,

Yes of course, edit all you like, I have always encouraged others to experiment like this. Also feel free to send me some examples of your work as I'd love to see them. IL2-MAT/Manager always has been a team effort and it's only possible because others have given their time and skills to do coding, MATs and TGAs, test things out and come forward with ideas.

Hi m8,

Can you show me the marking you made ?, CPLA ?,

Please post the graphic or send it to me by e-mail with the details of sizing, positioning and usage and I'll see what I can do.

Regards

Aces

EDIT: the only reference I can find to the CPLA is the Chinese People's Liberation Army Air Force which uses a bar roundel with a star in the middle. If it is this one then there's a BIG problem. You might have noticed that all bar type roundels eg. USN/USAAF star 'n bar, RNZAF and RN Pacific roundels do not appear as a user selectable marking and only appear on the skins. This is bacuase the game engine cannot handle elongated markings such as these, square ones yes, round ones yes, elongated ones no http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif. They will never scale and position correctly. Maybe it's another marking that you refer to.

Aces_High_2
06-12-2005, 02:19 PM
Hi,

You need to download v2.20 which is the last stand-alone installation and when it is installed run the v2.21 installers and then the v2.30 installer. I cannot do another full installer stand-alone version right now as I don't have the web space.

http://www.leigh-kemp.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/MAT_Manager_Upgrade_Diagram.jpg

Version 2.20 and the two upgrades v2.21 and v2.30 are all available on my IL2-MAT Download page:

Hi ming_boy.

I can do any or all of the first five markings (from left to right) but cannot do the two on the right for the reasons that I mentioned.

You said that you'd like them add as alternatives to Poland or Romania. Which would you prefer ?, bare in mind that if I use Poland then the roundel will appear on the tail and also on the wings and fusilag, if I use Romania it will not appear on the tail but only on the fusilage and wings, the choice is yours. The same marking will appear on all positions as there's only one Polish or Romanian marking used.

If I do no's 2-4 as there are quite a few red stars already available does this seem okay for you ?. Can you let me know about usage of the roundels 2-4, eg. what time period used for the different types etc ?.

Regards

Aces

Edit: I found the information on usage dates etc. for the roundels. I think it best if I use Romania rather than Poland as one could then use skins with the appropriate tail markings on them.

I'll do the graphics and incorporate the options and post back soon. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Hi,

I've got the usage dates I will do the 2nd to 5th roundels but cannot do the two that you show in your illustration. Both are elongated types and won't work. If you look at the illustration that you included in your previous post then I can do the round roundles only not the bar types eg.

Red Army of China Air Force 1944
Red Army of China Air Force 1947-1949
People's Liberation Army Air Force 1945-1949
People's Liberation Army Air Force 1946-1950

I think it best to use France and Finland. As Poland would put them on the tail and that would be wrong with these roundels as they had different markings on the tail, something that would have to be done on the skins themselves like others have done with RAF fin-flashes etc. If I use these two countries then they would go alongside my existing Chinese roundel options for both and allow you to fly "allied" or "axis". Both of these countries have the same roundel positions eg. one roundel on fusilage, lower and upper wing positions and no roundels on the tail.

http://www.geocities.com/cwlam2000hk/part2.htm

This is where I got my information on usage etc.

I'm sorry if you want the bar types but they are impossible to scale/position correctly I know this from a lot of experience in the past trying this.

Hi,Aces,

How about use New zealand and Slovakia?

I like this more:

CCP+KMT vs Japan (WWII)
CCP vs KMT (Civil war)
CCP vs USA (Korea war)

So CCP and KMT must be separated.

But if you like use France and Finland then do it please,I will very happy to see that.Thank you very much!

BTW:Why not made Italy as a single option? In spite of Italy not in IL2-FB/AEP/PF,but it's code-"IT" can be used.

Aces_High_2

Hi ming_boy,

Well the important thing is to make sure that these four markings appear both as "axis" and "allied" options (nationalities) but also important to use nationalities where the markings locations are right so I think I'll go with the Finish and French options and include all four in both that way you can select whatever you like for either. What's needed are two nationalities which have the same graphic on all positions, fuselage, under-wing and upper wing and nothing on the tail so that cuts the choice down a bit to France, Finland and Romania for sure. This rules out many nationalities such as USA, USSR, RAF etc. New Zealand and Slovakia would be okay but the reason I favour France and Finland is that I've already used both of these for my existing Chinese markings and I'd like to keep the new markings options grouped with these for simplicity sake.

The reason Italy doesn't appear as an option of its own in the program is that there's a long-standing problem with one of the MAT files not loading the graphic which goes way back in the history of the game which prevents proper markings positions that's why when they added the latest Italian aircraft they put the markings on the skins http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

Regards

Aces

Edit:

Okay on the CCP+KMT option I'll have to include these using two "allied" nationalites.

So:

CCP for France (allied)vs Japan
KMT for New Zealand (allied)vs Japan
KMT for Finland (axis) civil war vs CCP

Can you clarify CCP and KMT with reference to the following four markings for me:

Red Army of China Air Force 1944
Red Army of China Air Force 1947-1949
People's Liberation Army Air Force 1945-1949
People's Liberation Army Air Force 1946-1950

Hi Jim,

It will install over 2.21, the prog terminates much faster with v2.30 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

ming_boy,

Thanks for the e-mail, I read it just after I had made a set of roundels http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif, here they are, I have done the MAT files as well but will need to code the new options into the program tomorrow evening. I hope that you like them.

Please clarify which of these markings using the names in my screenshot you would like added to which nationalities (2 allied and 1 axis) France and New Zealand + Finland. What I need from you is which options to add to each nationality to achieve what you require. I'm getting a little confused over them as I'm no expert on Chinese aviation history although I'm catching up fast http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif. I wish to get this right as re-coding is a painfull task if I get them wrong.

I have some more new stuff to go into v2.31 as well http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

Hi,

First off run the v2.20 installer. It will first install loads of files to new sub-folders of your game folder (please be patient there are many of these files) and make sure that you give it the correct folder location for your game folder eg. C:\Program Files\Ubi soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles.

The installer will then go on to install the actual IL2-MAT Manager program to it's default folder location of C:\Program Files\IL2-MAT Manager.

When this is all done click on the IL2-MAT Manager icon on you desktop to launch the program. Make sure that you have also added the following line to the [game] section of your games' conf.ini file:

ClearCache=0

MAT Manager will try and auto detect your game folder when it first runs, if you have the game installed to another folder location other than default then it will take you to a config screen where you must select this folder.

Make as many changes to the markings options as you wish and then quit MAT Manager. When you next run the game you will see the substitute markings in the game.

I'm presuming that you have game version 3.03 or later in which case leave the option entitled "PF v3.03+ (no il2-mat needed)" checked (the defasult for a fresh install) else please read the readme file for full details of the use of this option with earlier game versions.

When you have this running okay then run the v2.21 installers and the v2.30 installers provided in these two upgrade packages to install the latest program version and the new markings files provided.

I have a FAQ on my website as well which you migh find useful, link in my sig. Also the manual explains in depth all the markings options.

My pleasure,

Yes it works with PF both stand-alone and merged (FB+AEP+PF) installations. To get the best of it you really should have either game patched to v3.03 or later and the "ClearCache=0" line added to the "[game]" section of your conf.ini.

Naturally in PF stand-alone a lot of the options regarding nationalities and plane types not present in PF stand-alone will not be relevant. You can select them etc. but they won't have any effect because the aircraft and/or nationality isn't in PF stand-alone. Of course a merged install will offer you the greatest selection all round.

First off...you do fantastic work Ace!

I've run your program(s) for several months now, but recently uninstalled it because I was afraid that online play may affect others if the "special" markings acted as personal skins, thus causing some lag in the online servers.

Is this true? And, if so, is there a way to turn Mat Mgr off for online play? I couldn't seem to be able to turn it off when I wanted. It defaulted to my last settings, which sometimes played havoc with online servers demanding correct skins/markings.

Best regards M8!

Aces_High_2
06-18-2005, 10:22 AM
Hi mate,

I doesn't effect online play as no markings are transmitted they are visible only on your PC. Once you have exited MAT Manager and applied your choice of markings that's it. If you have v3.03 or later of the game and you've added the "ClearCache=0" line to your conf.ini and thus you don't have to run IL2-MAT any more then there's no load delays when the game launches.

the markings graphics and the MAT files that load them are just the same as those generated by the game. They are "loaded" into memory well before you press fly as you can see them in the arming screen etc.

Best Regards
