Is anyone aware of any easter eggs in FB or PF?

I always wondered what the wooden box at the end of the runways, between the search lights, was and what it says on the box, i cant read it but i think it starts with c.

That's the air raid siren. Don't ask me why they choose a wooden box but there you go.

Someone posted a screenshot on here one time of a Bf109 with the baggage compartment door blown off. Inside was the first-aid kit, just like on the real aircraft.

Over on Warbirds of Prey, Chicago Chad likes to put little items on some maps for you to find. One of the guys who flies there and is a moderator (Ccrassh PR*) lives in Naha, Okinawa. His house is a target on the Okinawa map.

There aren't major Easter Eggs like in some games (like, for example, the Flying Saucer that would appear in Jane's WWII Fighters if you scored a certain number of kills on a mission without taking any damage), but there are some humorous details thrown in by the developers. One I can think of offhand is the knobs in the I-185 cockpit that have "1C:MG" printed on them. Another might be the online map where the fictional towns are based on various designers involved with the IL-2 series. And whose face was that on the original IL-2's Soviet pilots -- that face is still used on the observation baloon crew I believe.

The little people that run from the convoys when you strafe their trucks might be considered an Easter Egg, especially if you're not expecting it. Seeing them freaked me out the first time I noticed.

The rolling pencil on the TB-3 navigator's desk.

The internal bombload on the Yak 9B.

The smoking ejected shell case on the BFG Hs-129 B-3/Wa Waffentraeger.

On a more sombre note, In the old online game "Air attack", after one of the community members died in a car crash (Zulu 9) the developers added a grave stone with his name at the side of the British runway.

it was very cool of them to do that.

Didn't someone says there is some tree lines that are positioned in the form of swastika on Berlin map? Never saw such posts again (it was old post, in pre PF days), so it is possible that was just trolling.

This tree-linie existed in real until the beginning of the 1990's, but I never saw it in the game, too

If you are asking if there are any hidden treasures:

You should try flying to Helsinki; Kronstadt (I think it's called that; the island in the Gulf of Finland, not far from Leningrad), Leningrad itself; Sevastapol (in the Crimea area).
These are all uniquely detailed cities/towns.

There are also some castles/halls dotted around, one is just south of Leningrad (only detailed gardens can be seen) and there are a couple of castles on the Crimean (cliff-top castle at Yalta) and Kuban coast. There is a big Mosque at Bakhchasaray (Crimea/Krim) (this is just a placeble mission object though).

Caen castle is on the Normandy map, though I might only be seeing this because I have 'Battle over Europe' installed.

Hey major_setback is right, those are fantastic spots for scenery. The island Kronstadt was and is the home bas for the Baltic fleet. The castle just south of Leningrad is in fact the Hermitage, IIRC, the Tsar's summer palace and today a great art museum. Crimea has lots of stuff, btw I don't have "Battle over Europe" but have the Caen castle...the Pegasus bridge is also marked on the map , just looks like the other bridges though.

Not sure if anyone else has seen this but, when flying a P47 online, i was hit in the left wing from a 109. When i looked, there was a hole in the top of the wing and i could see 3 of the 4 50 cal's plain as day. I didnt get a screen shot cuz i would have been booted from the server. It did look quit cool. Wonder what else is modeled under the aircraft skins that we cannot see.

The Tempest has an 'extensive' damage model (3D). See some screenshot on this thread:

Yea - open the Wildcat skin, and look at it real closely - there's a Mae West poster on the left side half way down next to the landing gear. It appears when you loose a panel aft and port of the cockpit. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

yes this can be seen by battle damage in the game, a whole blows open behind the left of the pilot and you can see a raft and fire extingisher.

Some clever skinner may have put a cheesecake poster on the template to replace the yellow life raft bundle that is on the Wildcat void. I've never downloaded any USN skins for PF and all I have are voids and two additional wildcat skins in the F4F-4 folder. If I'm missing something obvious and 'Mae West' really is there, get out your markers and a screenshot for me ... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I've seen the emergency kit in the fuselage revealed by damage in the game however.

Internal bombay in Yak-9B is not an easter egg.

Even modern publications such as the 2004 "The Encyclopedia of Aircraft of WWII" still publishes incorrect information (pre-1991) such as the caption on page 502 "A Yak-9B demonstrates its ability to deliver bombs. Four FAB-100s or a larger number of smaller anti-personnel weapons could be delivered by the variant, using underwing racks."

A more accurate account of the Yak-9B is provided by the 1998 "Soviet Combat Aircraft of the Second World War" by Gordon and Khazanov, which shows not only the exact picture in the book I mentioned first, but also a picture of a munitions technician loading the internal bombay via a cable hoisted through the dorsal hatch. According to the text:

"The modification [to the Yak-9D series] consisted of replacing the rear cockpit with a bay housing four bomb bays, plced in pairs one behind the other, in each of which were suspended four FAB-100 220lb (100kg) bombs. Alternatively, four clusters of PTAB 2kg anti-tank bombs could be carried." Another picture shows a Yak-9B damaged by the bombs it was carrying. Although hampered by no bombsight, the Yak-9B could perform just as well as any other tactical Yak-9 fighter without the bombload. It carried the same guns as the Yak-9D.

As far as easter eggs here are some:
- The Water Closet house object, when blown up, shows a toilet.
- You can fly any aircraft (AI included) from outside view in a DF Arena only... but only if the airplane type is allowed in the list. For example, you could not fly the Me-210 from outside view in an Arena that only allows P-40s and Zeros.
- Both the C-47 and the Japanese version of the C-47 can act as tugs for gliders.
- Both the He-111H-2 and H-6 can act as tugs for gliders, and you can actually fly them when they are tugs.
- The Pe-8 can act as a tug for up to 3 G-10 gliders.
- All versions of the Bf-110 can act as tugs for gliders, and you can fly the G-2 when it is towing.
- plenty more but I am not talking about them... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

But the pics you're showing are not from the Void.bmp, which is all white (and there's no girl in mine). If Mae West is in a skin file you have in that folder, it has to be an add-on skin, because default skins are hard-coded in the .exe (I believe). So it could be still be considered an Easter Egg, but by the skin author, not by the sim makers http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
