Is there a mod that will display other digital instrument readouts like rate of discent for example? As a newbie it would make learning the basics of flying a little easier.

first there aren't any mods for this game.
second: what do u mean by "digital instrument readouts"?
u should try reading the manual u got with the game, there is a quite nice explanation of the general elements of flying http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Which plane are you flying? Most have a descent/ascent indicator telling you by how much you are climbing or diving. The German aircraft have excellent instrmentation in this respect.

Analog gauges are required in things like nuclear reactors because you can tell if a gauge is in the normal range without actually having to read it. You can just glance at the needle.

A digital readout needs to be read. The analog gauges are actually easier to use

Yes there is this new €thing€ called Device Link that can be used for a number of things for the crafty user. Like this HUD at http://www.ch-hangar.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1015!

Help me here on this one guys. I can't find the thread. I believe it is Newview, and it gives you a tool bar on the bottom of the screen, with guages and other cool stuff. It only works in Single play. I didn't use it since I have Track IR

I find the some of the dials a little small and for some you have to 'panview' to see some of them. Due to my severe lack of flying experience I find myself all fingers and thumbs when trying to land and take off and so having the figures there in front of my would help me greatly until I have gained more experience.
Oh,I'm flying the Il2 at he moment, well trying to! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
