View Full Version : Why am I having so much trouble with campaigns?

I'm getting a bit worn with my campaigns in FB. Right now I'm in an Fw190 campaign, and an He-111 campaign. Every mission seems to be a struggle against the sim just to fly the plane correctly or make a decent strike on the target.

For example, in my Fw190 campaign, trying to keep the plane in a reasonable formation with my wingleader is tiresome to say the least. The heavy right hand roll makes holding a constant heading incredibly difficult. Even with lots of rudder pedal, I'm lucky to stay within a few degrees of the proper heading. Matching the airspeed of my wingmen during cruise is nearly impossible, always I'm too fast or too slow, there seems to be no happy medium. Today I enabled autopilot and observed the throttle handle during formation cruise, and CONSTANTLY the handle was adjusting over a 5% to 8% range just to keep in formation. I've been flying sims for a decade, and holding a reasonably constant speed in an aircraft does NOT require continous throttle adjustments!

With the He-111 campaign, it's OK during the cruising to cambat, though matching speed is still often an issue. What's giving me trouble here is the targets. Often the targets are cars or tanks, and from 3000 to 5000 meters, spotting the targets is very difficult. Most common is that the AI spots and bombs the targets before I can even aquire its location. (Remember that often the cars or tanks are apparently DRIVING, so they are somewhere along a length of roadway.) During my last few missions, this issue has resulted in my scoring no kills... I can't bomb what I can't find down there.

Are other's seeing the same sort of things? Which campaigns in FB are doing well for others? (P-47? Stuka? Tb-3?) I finished all the campaigns in IL2 on realistic settings, but in IL2 I never got to fly some planes, like the Fw190 or a level bomber campaign, so I'd really like to in FB.

i had the same prob with the He11 campaign, so I aborted and started a full real(almost full, I have externals and minimap path on), Il2 campaign, starting from Lvov.
I realy recomend to do the same, but use mostly early Il's their have better maneuvrabiity, but for later campaigns, the Type3M is the best.
Flying the Il2 helps you eepeing your eyes opened all the time.
BTW, about being too slow or too fast.
I always takoff before my leader even starts the engine, and go ahead them, since the sound is half broken, better ignore them i they shout at you. Just go ahead and leave them to come afterwards.
About hadeling the throttle, Hve you tried enabeling the level stabiliser, and you be carefull ONLY at increasing and decreasing throttle?
Sometimes even works.

A 'good' landing is one from which you can walk away. A 'great'
landing is one after which they can use the plane again<center>

I noticed with the FW190 a slight left rudder will make it fly level. It also seems on the campaigns when you use autopilot (I assume that is the cause cause I use it to target area) your slip indicator goes off, so that When you center the ball you have severe yaw.

Welcome to the world of open beta. Make notes, make tracks, send bug reports.

I haven't flown the He111 but I'm partway through a Fw190 JABO campaign and use the FOV keys to zoom in and spot targets. I usually spot the dust clouds from moving vehicles first.

9 times out of 10, a convoy will have one Halftrack or truck with 20mm AA. Watch for the tracers, then you know where they are - big flashes on the ground too.

Tank groups can be spotted from dust.

Fixed guns & command posts will always be right on or next to the bomb waypoint, so they're easy to find.

I'm not into level bombing. It's too much like driving a bus. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
