Any "pro" sim pilots out there have any tips for successful landing.

I just started flying today and have managed only one successful landing. All the others I either wreck the plane or blow myself into chunks.

Thx in advance from a noob./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

simple rule

try NOT to land

visualize coming in slow and flying along the runway a few centimetres off it ... cut throttle and try and make end of runway without touching down .. you will settle nicely to earth without even trying

I agree with WTE_Galway. Don't try to fly onto the runway.

To land, I try to fly just above the runway and ease off the throttle until the plane essentially stalls out and drops out of the sky and onto the runway. I immediately pull the throttle to 0% and raise the flaps. With reduced lift and no throttle you stay on the ground.

Try the Il-2 for a nice stable aircraft. Even shot up you can usually bring it in for a nice landing if your controls atill work.

Once you manage a few good landings, do a lot more. Practice, practice, practice. Keep in mind that all the planes handle differently and even though you may be good at flying one plane, you might still have real problems with another. I've landed the Il-2 hundreds of times, but have only managed one successful Me-262 landing, and that was pure luck.

Guess ive been flying to many carrier sims, i dont try to land, but dont fly aboverunway either, i aim for the end of the runway pull up a little out give the bird enough sink with nose up give a good landing. works well in everything bar the 109, with its skinny landing gear u gotta be carefull, guess the spit will be the same

the real trick is practice practice practice

here is a neat way to set up practice ...

- go to multiplayer
- set difficulty to "no takeoff or landing"
- create a multiplayer dogfight server offline

then when ever you hit refly your choice of planes will spawn at circuit height just above an airfield .. land it refly do it again

Thx fellas.

I tried some stuff you mentioned.
I got a litte better. I stopped blowing myself into burning pieces of meat.

I have never flown an aircraft. So I have nothing to base it on.

I think I was setting my landing flaps to late at first. It was causing my plane to shift right before I touched down. Made it real unstable. Next I will try to raise them as soon as I touch for more stability.

You fellas are right though. Practice, practice, practice.
Maybe someday I will land in a straight line.

None of my friends play flight sims, so I really appreciate the feedback.

Thx again./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Here are some general tips I got from the forum some time back;

1000m out @ 500m height, throttle back to 25%, deploy combat flaps. Aim for end of runway. At 250m out deploy take off flaps, speed should be around 225kph. At 50m out deploy landing flaps, keep speed at 180kph. Keep aiming for end of runway. You should touch down about 1/3 of the way in. At touchdown cut throttle, raise flaps, brake carefully or you will nose over (except in planes with tricycle landing gear. With them put the [brake] pedal to the metal).

These are general guidelines. This is where I started. I had to adjust for each plane.

As said before, the real key is parctice-practice-practice. I can still find a way to land my plane is such a way that it is scrap metal, but I haven't died (often) during landing lately.

Good luck.

Ok. Thx for the tip. I was going right past the take off flaps. Once I was in combat flaps, I would just double click into landing flaps. Maybe thats why I got so much shift.

The other thing,(your gonna think I'm ******ed), is I am using a Falcon4 profile to fly. I could not find a profile for Il-2. So I dont really have any brakes. I just coast to a stop.

BTW, I am using the X-45. I got the latest drivers from Saitek's website. They didnt have any profiles for Il-2 either. And I do not know enough to try and start assigning buttons.
