Now maybe I just didnt read my manual but this seems like a hidden feature of the game as mentioned by Jugent in another thread. In the conf.ini file set arcade to 1(from 0).Now go fight!!!See what happens !!!(ok for the impatient...there are huge wild west style arrows wherever you hit or are hit and 'speech bubbles' comic book style coming from the planes)Now am I just out of the loop or are there other' hidden secrets' of the community you guys are keeping from me!!!Like once I remember seeing in some track some kind of arcade style hud with a 3d 'tilt indicator' icon.Come clean guys post all the untold mysteries for us noobs ...Please...

Hi ytareh,

If you map a key in the controls set-up you can toggle through
<cockpit on/ H.U.D. with altimeter, speedometer/ H.U.D without that stuff? fixed gunsight/ floating gunsight plus little moving blob to help with carrier landings(also good for deflection shooting)>.

Generally these kinds of views are called "Wonder Woman" views which is quite funny but personally I like them if I am flying the 190 as otherwise I can't see a thing.

If you select High Gore=1 in your conf settings then on a few planes (He-111 being one such) when you hit the crewmen they slump forward. Only seen it myself on the 111. Sure it's sick but kind of cool.

ytareh, the default key to the view that u guys are talking about is CTRL+F1. Click that while in cockpit view, and u will cycle through them.

"Now maybe I just didnt read my manual but......"

Those and many other dark secrets of the game can be found in the FB manual and the key mapper lol.

If all else fails, read the instructions

Ytareh:

Another neat trick is that you can man the guns on carriers with crewmen (on other ships too maybe?). Also you can increase the amount of Anti-aircraft Artillary/flak.

Unfortunately I am stupid and do not know how to do either of these...something to do with the config' file..
If you can find someone who isn't stupid on this forum, then maybe you will get help. GOOD LUCK!!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/1072.gif

Does anyone know what changing 'Effects' in the config' file does? Can I get more impressive explosions etc. by changing the default value?
What other effects will be affected?

Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Well I surprised myself today:

I was trying to shoot down an HE111 in my I16- it was hard work because there were about 12 of `em all bunched up.

I lateched on one guy, killed his top, rear and belly gunner and got so close to the bomber that I actually chewed his whole rear right elevater section off. My I16 shook a little and the propellers stopped. The I16 veered to the left and down, the pilot bailing out!

I replayed to check and it really did happen.

I always wondered if you could chew the rear of a bomber with your prop and I found out today that you can! But you have to get up real close and slow.

Han Freak Solo its in 8th 'paragraph' under [Game} above 'high gore'.Just change the 0 to 1.And reverse to return to non arcade.

I was aware of the artillery rate thingy.Only works on ships though and because most have so many guns not that noticeable...varies from deadly to unbelievably deadly!(Under ROF-rate of Fire-in Full Mission Builder)

Yeah, see my above conf.ini list. It's set up with both arcade and high gore both set to 1. I still don't see arrows. Since I don't see 3d gunners listed, I'm wondering.....do these two features only work with a high end machine?? I can't set the game to "perfect" only as high as "excellent".

The arcademode will be automatically disabled in some gamemodes, like mulitplayer. This could be why you don't see any arrows.

Try a quick mission builder test, fire a few rounds at the enemy, notice hits then pause and switch views to the target. It should, depending on your gunneryskill, be filled with arrows. Another way to confirm that arcademode is on is to look at the hits when a bullet strikes ground as the hits stay highlighted. You may also consider crashing your plane into the ground, if you do, a bunch of arrows will protude from the point of impact. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Effects=2 still works, will give you experimental but better smoke effects. Especially noticable on cannon hits (20 mm shows sweet white puffs), smokeplumes from ships, factories etc, bombexplotions and crashing planes.
Oleg told us on this forum that they were experimental and not for the public, he was gonna remove the option, but so far it still works. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif And its cool.
Dont be surprised when it doesnt work well though, especially its watersplashes slowed the game down for lots of people. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

If the 3dgunners= doesn't exsist in your [game] portion of config. simply add it and set it to 1.

Your last line in[game] reads, eventlogkeep=0 directly under that add 3dgunners=1. I'm afraid I don't know if it works under excellant as I have never set it there. Maybe someone else using excellant can answer that for you.

Also try padlock enemy aircraft and pad.enemy ground (I have these mapped on F5 and F6 don't know about default mapping tho).

If you fly pit off, and with padlock enabled, you should see red or blue triangle around your selected target. Try it out can be very handy when you are on ground attack mission.

Thanks for the advice guys. I still can't get "arcade" to work. That's OK though. I play with realistic gunnery anyway. I just was looking for something fun to do.

Perhaps it has to do with the way my game is installed. I previously mentioned that I have FB/AEP/PF with the 3.04m patch. I also have installed Battle Over Europe with its RAF campaign patch and Operation Barbarossa made for FB/AEP/PF.

Just for fun, here is a screenshot of me "flying" the Beaufighter in QMB taking a P-39 head on. This was "searching for arrows" for the umpteenth time.

Did y'all know of the "J" key? It jettisons the wings and tail when pressed. I was fearing the impending collision so I hit the "J" key. This was so my crewman and me could escape the head on collision and fall away from the battle so we could parachute to safety. At the same time my right wing would finish off the P-39.

There have been threads on ramming planes here. The "J" key facilitates this for pilot survival. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

The ground crew addition is pretty cool! Here's a test to see how they react to the High Gore setting. As you can see, there wasn't much left of them to look for gore. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif
