I know, it's a pain, but please can you check that your signature and avatar follow the forum rules? (especially new members who have joined in the last few months)

The sig/avatar rules are posted here: (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/857101043/m/4451080164)

Signature limits:

If you want any help or advice with modifying your sig/avatar graphics, feel free to ask me in this thread.

How to check the dimensions and file size of your current signature graphics

1. Right-click on a graphic in your signature
2. Select 'Properties'
3. Check the Size of File. Internet Explorer users - this is shown under 'Size' as a value in bytes (60kb = 61440 bytes)
4. Check the Width and Height sizes. Internet Explorer users - this is shown under 'Dimensions' as two values: width x height.

Repeat for each graphic in your signature.

How to check the dimensions and file size of your current avatar graphic

1. Right-click on the graphic in your avatar
2. Select 'Properties'
3. Check the Size of File
4. Check the Width and Height sizes. Internet Explorer users - the browser's Properties window only shows the *displayed* size dimensions, which may be different to the *actual* size if your original graphic is bigger than 64 x 64 pixels! Checking the actual size in the forum is not straightforward, so either:

- View the original image at full size in your image hosting account (Imageshack, Photobucket, etc.), right-click on it, select 'Properties' and check the 'Dimensions' values (width x height)

OR

- Ask me to check it for you.

If you're struggling to get your image or file sizes down, just ask me and I'll try to do it for you, free of charge! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Hmmmm.... OK here goes!

Animated GIF files are the trickiest of all because they contain a sequence of images in one file, which means they usually have larger file sizes.

To reduce the image and file sizes, you need some decent software that can handle the animated GIF format. Maybe the free GIMP software (similar to Photoshop) can do it, I'm not sure. To get the file sizes of a GIF down, you can reduce the width and height of the animation frames and/or the number of colours. By default, GIFs use 256 colours but this can be reduced to any number down to 2 colours - but of course the fewer colours the poorer the image quality.

I use a program called Fireworks which is the better than anything else I've used for providing maximum image quality with minimum file sizes.

The animated GIF you have in your sig is 200 pixels x 161 pixels, 71.5 KB (which means it's over the limit...!)

Here's a version I've resized and optimised for you:

http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/5497/f22v2jf6.gif

186 x 150 pixels, 58.8 KB

(7 colours!)

I'll see if GIMP or some other free software will do the job, otherwise just send me the GIFs and I'll fix them for you.

I much appreciate the enforcement of the size rules, but what I really wish is that you would get rid of the signature altogther. Nothing worse then having to scroll through a bunch of redundant **** to read some text.

That would be up to the Community Managers, not me http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Well, it's for that reason the Community Managers created the rules. You may prefer no signatures, but at least we have a reasonable size limit.

And signatures do help members to add a little personality to their forum presence http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

PS - if you want to view the forums without sigs or avatars (or images in posts), and you're using Firefox, install the 'Forum Fixer' add-on:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3267

I don't know if it will work with this forum, but it's worth a try.

You can right-click and get properties. You can use that URL for now, but you're going to want to sign up with one of those free picture hosting services soon. Others can tell you more about that, I've never used one. You're welcome, by the way!

The best way is to get a Photobucket account (http://www.photobucket.com). Upload the file to your Photobucket account. When it's uploaded, click the 'IMG Code' field below it - this will copy the correctly formatted address to your clipboard. You can then post this address in the Signature field in your profile.

It never hurts too remind the forum about the rules once in awhile, VG. Also just wondering if it would be advisable for me to cut back on my sig and lettering. I know I have to be close to the limits of the sig. It will be no problem to cut it back if you feel it is necessary. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

BUMP!

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif
Sorry Tambor, I missed your post. Your sig fits the rules perfectly except for one thing - the file size is 70KB and the limit is 60KB. I can easily fix this for you if you need me to.

No need, VG. I've changed sigs yet again and this one is right at 60 kb. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
