Hello guys.

Iam a great fan of the these flightsim series and played them as much as i could ever sinds the first IL-2 came out.
And iam getting really frustrated that i can't play them anymore http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif.
Its just happens to be that we just have our computer fixed of a hd failure.
And i had to install all my stuff agian.
Witch wasn't much off a prob.
I even put in some cash to get 512 RAM extra in the deal. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

But here's the prob.
The computer was acting a bit funnie and my dad went an a deletion spree.
Blaming the thing on those "games".
Exept he was not using the normal uninstall. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
So when i was back from school i tried to reinstall my IL-2 series agian.

BIG problem the cd installer from FB stil thinks the game is on the harddrive.
So i went uninstalling.(There's not much choice.)
And i get an error http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif.

1607: Unable to install
install shield scriping runtime.
And when i got a bit furder it was saying someting about a missing .MSI file?
And the unistall shuts down.

The installer from PF doesn't even let me select anything.

Doen anybody knows how to get PF and FB completly out off my computer so i can install the games agian?

Thanks in advance

Andries

Before resorting to that reformat, have a look at this Post by B16Enk in the 'user fixes that may help others' thread (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/49310655/m/314103891/r/9101075562#9101075562) in the Community Help Forum (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/ubb.x?a=frm&s=400102&f=49310655)

Good Luck!

Henk,

Try using Microsoft's Uninstaller Cleaning utility to remove from the install database entries for IL2, FB, AEP, and PF. Once you take those steps you should be able to reinstall without trouble.

I had the same problem you describe and the Uninstaller Cleaning Utility was the answer.

You can get it here (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301).

Hope this helps.

That's excactly why there's a post refering to it, this one: Post by B16Enk in the 'user fixes that may help others' thread (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/49310655/m/314103891/r/9101075562#9101075562) in the Community Help Forum (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/ubb.x?a=frm&s=400102&f=49310655) http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Thank you for sharing that wisdom with us, FoolTrottel. Wouldn't it have been easier to simply post a direct link to the M$ utility in the first place?

Rhetorical question, I realize.

Thanks FT. I found that link to TweakUI to be very useful also in the thread you provided a link for to B16Enks post in the Users Fixes thread. TweakUI seems to be a great companion program to Microsoft's Uninstaller Cleaning utility.

( http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif It would be have been easier, I know. Just trying to point to that 'User fixes that may help others' thread in general... so it gets more attention. So more ppl will take a look there and find a solution so they get it fixed easier and faster ... )

Ouch that sounds very nasty.

I really really really dislike the people who blame games on the instability in their operating system. The instability in operating systems are caused by people deleting random files, using Internet Explorer instead of one of the many more secure alternatives, and not running proper antivirus and antispyware utilities. I work in tech support...I KNOW.

Sorry my rant is over! Work related stress.

Personally I'd be wanting to reformat right about now. A nifty little utility might be able to clean up some of the logjam that now exists in your registry but I worry when things like that happen (and people go on deletion sprees) that the registry is more permanently screwed up and there are links between various files and profiles that are now totally screwed up and may rear their ugly heads at a later date.

I'd be backing everything up, nuking the drive, and installing Windows fresh and then install everything new. Its a good thing to do every year or so.

Yes I agree 1000%, I accually reformat probably at least 6 times in a year, somtimes even purchasing new HD's. But I have 2 pc's, 1 for gaming, and 1 for everything else, i.e. Servers, word processing, downloading, replying to posts on a website. On the pc where I game on doesn't have anything, but gaming material.
