View Full Version : Blue Bias or Historical Fact?

I have been flying red in online wars and coops now for close to a year. Mainly eastern front.

In all this time I have yet to start the mission with a tactical advantage. Why is this? Is it historical for the Russians to always pick the afternoon to fly so they have the sun in thier eyes, or is it bias on the part of the mission designers.

What's wrong with leaving at 6:00 AM instead of 6:00 PM so the sun is to our back?

I understand that on defense there is not much choice, but were they truly so inept that they couldn't figure out that flying into the sun is just stoopid?

Is it just me or is there something wrong with this picture?

It's all a conspiracy of German astronomers.

Nice to get the spammers out of the way early. Just two more to go.

I thought this too until I flew blue for while... suffered the same disadvantages flying for them http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

It's just luck of the draw I think, there are coop missions out there that work the other way.

I think it would be more common to start a mission in the morning. Beside we all now the blue side is to dumb to figure that one out. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

1) the sun is only at your back before the fight, then it's anyone's guess.

2) this is where I must bow to Oleg and his historical accuracy. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif Try drinking 3 bottles of vodka and then getting up at 6 the next morning for a combat mission. No barf bags in a Mig.

Elementary my dear Freelancer, elementary. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Exactly, It would be nice to be the bouncer instead of the bouncee. How you enter the fight goes far toward the outcome. If you enter with advantage you are more likely to leave in a plane and not a chute.

The sun is clearly undermodelled

Its funny...I always hear the blue team complaining about the morning sun.

Simple...fly north south.

Not a cure, particularly on winter maps. Most of the maps are set away from the equator which puts the sun in the north or south (depending which side of the equator) when the server time is between about 9am and 3pm.

Seriously though, there is one thing you can do to help when the sun is at your twelve. It shows another one of the thoughtful details Oleg has included in the sim.

If you can put the sun behind one of the cockpit frames, you can see just fine. Kinda like how real pilots would block it out with their thumb. Just a cool little detail I thought I'd mention.

one thing I cant stand is when you start a mission and your objective is due south and yet as I'm flying 180 what is stairing me in the eye low on the horizon? yep you guessed it that big bright yellow dot http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

When i make coops i dont even think of which side the sun will be on. I think, oooh, i know, i fancy a *insert time of day here* mission, and i make it. I dont think, right, lets get those ruskies while they are in a bad situation. That would just be devious.
