Not war film but general flying film or good film with good aircraft...

Mine is The Flight of the Phoenix (the original)

two scenes stand out for me the one were they find out their aircraft specialist actually designs Models

And the tension and joy when the engine is started using the coffman cartridge starter

It`s also a sad story in real life as the stunt pilot in the film Paul Mantz was killed just before the film was completed and the real Phoenix built for the film was destroyed http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

I think The Spirit of St. Louis with Jimmy Stewart might be my favorite. It's beautifully filmed and any movie with Stewart in it is worth watching IMO.

I liked that Chechoslovokian film (English subscripts) about the Chech pilots flying for Britain during WW2.

Still trying to find the name of the film that had Spitfires in Luftwaffe colours and Me 109s as RAF fighters(Surely a "Classic".) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

JSG72, I think that movie is "From hell to victory" 1979. Seen it a long time ago. Strange to see spits with balkenkreuzen.

Words cannot thankyou enough. Heliopause.

I posted on this Forum years ago requesting the name of this "Abomination". And had no luck obtaining title.

I am so happy that this has been resolved.(I knew I wasn't that drunk. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blush.gif)

Yes, they're old war movies but with loads of aerial action:

Hell's Angels -- 1930 -- features actual WWI fighters and a bomber.

The Blue Max.

MGM's Battle of Britain.

Tora Tora Tora

Newer one, about Howard Hughes is The Aviator....

This movie is done in 1941, it is about a Swedish dive-bombing squadron during the war

I can understand that you guys maybe think that it might not sound like a fun movie because it is Swedish and all that, but I think you should watch it if you like history and air planes, witch I know you all do http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

And for you Yanks the movie have nice authentic flight scenes with the Northrop Model 8 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

My favorite is probably still Tmavomodrý svÄ›t (Dark Blue World).

On the subject of the original Battle of Britain I was surprised to notice recently that the he111's are also Merlin powered not just the Buchon 109's.

I suppose its logical that if the Spanish 109's used Merlins so would the license built Heinkel's but I have never noticed it before. It is surprising what you can miss even when its staring you in the face.

Porco Rosso is pretty good.

Other than that I can't think of any air combat movies that were really any good.

Recently saw the episode "Scar" on Battlestar Galactica, pretty good stuff.
