You think they built it on the same skeleton ? They do look like the same frame configuration....That is a mighty large boat ! Anyone have any idea of the stats of that thing ?

Well the Daqingyu class is 393 ft long, 32 ft wide, and a draught of 26 ft. Im guessing the typ 29 will expand on that.

We also had a discussion about it in the SH4 forum (see "Eye candy for skippers" thread)

I doubt that it has much similarities to the Type 092 Xia / Daqingyu Class which is basically a copy of the soviet Delta-IV class and a useless waste of money and resources.

Two were build, one sunk on its first sea trials and the other spend more time in the drydock than any sub should ever do.

So i expect that this new class is a fully new construction (except that its overall hull design looks similar)

Note quite so. The Xia class was basicly a Han Class SSN that had a missile plug inserted. Like what the U.S did to get the George Washington Class SSBN with the Skipjack SSN.

Yes it dose look like a Delta but I would say in no way was it a copy. The Hump on the back came out of necesty. Lack of space? Make a turtle back sub!

Hmmmm,ok

But now i know why that one of them sunk. I bet this hull refit was the source of the accident.

Hull modifications are a risky thing. You need 100 % perfect quality work or...

Let me get this right... The boat sunk untouched ? They refitted the boat instead of building a new shell? That from a country that spends more dollars per capa on it's military than anything else !
