What do you guys think about Falcon 4's Superpak 4?

There's already a buzz around the sim community with the upcoming release of the infamous SP4. According to F4UT, the developer, SP4 will have enhanced weapon modeling, which will mimick the most realistic weapon control, firing conditions, and effect.

There's even a rumor that MicroProse will actually release the source code. (In my opinion, F4 needs a serious graphic update).

Anyways, there no doubt about the fact that Falcon 4 is still alive and kicking, and it is one serious sim which no other product so far have matched. (Flanker 2.5 came close but didn't quite catch upto the sophistication of F4 SP3).

I would like to hear your comments since most of you here are quite enthusiastic simmers.

Personally, I'd stick with SP4 and wait until LOMAC price drops.

It's not out yet, just like LOMAC isn't.

It took 2 patches to get F4 just to load on my machine. Biggest waste of money ever. Even more so than CFS, atleast that would load without locking up.

At the start of WW2 the German army lacked experienced anti-aircraft gunners. The average gunner was so bad that the USSR decided to help them out. They did it by forcing some of their pilots to fly I-153 flak magnets. These planes were slow but very sturdy. This allowed German anti-aircraft gunners to get a large amount of target practice on a relatively small number of planes. Thanks to the Soviets help, by the end of the war the German anti-aircraft gunners were amoung the best in the world.</center>

You gave up too soon and missed out on the best flight sim ever prior to IL2, too bad for you.

Falcon 3, the grand-daddy of all flight sims had me going for uncounted hundreds of hours. A masterpiece in very sense of the word.

Falcon4 might have gotten off to a poor start, but after a few patches and a few mods, it become a worthy successor. No other jet sim have the options, scalability and ridiculously incredible depth of Falcon4. Where else could you have a dynamic war over a map of two entire countries?

Granted, there were and are failings in the sim, but with the new Super Pack add-ons, it is, graphics aside, the most intensive and realistic jet sim available.

I'm not fawning over a cult sim here, I'm stating the obvious; that Falcon4 is a five-star masterpiece that has no equal in breadth and scope.

Actually I did give it a try once it worked, but it was never any good in my oppinion. Flanker 2.x and Janes F/A-18 were much better sims.

Just as you gave up on Falcon, I gave up on Flanker 2.x, and Janes (lmao here - Janes, lol) has yet to produce a jet sim with 1/2 the realism that made Falcon 4 so great.

Take the ACMI recorder and playback for example. Go fly a mission in a Campaign, deep strike, cap, photo recon - then watch the playback - it's spooky. Here you are in your little F16 formation flying along and doing your mission and there is a War going on around you, other strike packages, enemy cap flights, ect.

Then there is the manual - all 27 chapters of it and yes, you have to read it and memorize it and actually learn something. And ya know what? You had to forget 1/2 of it and relearn how to use the radar and ICP and other time consuming options when the community upgraded the sim. How great is that? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif If you wanted a lean mean simulator - Falcon 4 is it and perhaps Lomac will be lucky enough to pave the road for the next high end jet simulation.

Superpack 4 - it's been a long wait and I look foward to taking my F16 back out for a long Campaign.

I hated F4, because the missions had way too much going on at once. There must have been at least 40 aircaft in the air at once, or more, most of the time. My radar scope was so full of crap I did'nt know what to do half the time, I'd get hit by some missile fired from 100 miles away before I could sort out what was on my scope and decide what was hostile or friendly. Just a litte TOO busy for me. I didn't like they way the plane would "plonk" onto the runway when you landed, ( similar to F3 ) either. Not very realistic for simulating landing a F-16.

u spend more time in falcon 4 with the packs cliking buttons in the cogpit, while realistic i like the ww2 style realism no fancy systems to manage jus fly the plane http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif. To play falcon 4.0 u really need to dedicate alot of time just to know how to play, i could work out how to bomb stuff use the radar etc but not how to fly a dam mission thank god for the autopilot.

Don't count on LOMAC to scratch the surface of a high fidelity sim like F4 (or to a lesser extent Jane's F18). The avionics options are pretty limited in the demo, and from what I understand they are unlikely to be improved on for the final version. The LOMAC demo is fun, and looks great, but with 6 planes to recreate there is no way they can model each planes avionics package accurately and in depth.

And where are you getting this info? The demo has the A-10 (no real avionics really) and the Mig-29 and they have done a pretty accurate job with it. It goes beyond F2.5, which wasn't a slouch modelling the Russian planes. If you read the updates from Matt and Shelpski the F-15's radar is very well modelled as well. Now we aren't talking about the depths of F4, but then that sim has been in continual development for 8 years now.
