Found this at the banana forum.

Die EJGr.Ost in Moskau (http://www.yogysoft.de/Moskau.htm)

EJGr.Ost_Caspar and EJGr.Ost_yogy (some of you might know them) went to visit Moscow and 1C.

Pics included.

Google translation:
Friday, there were first breakfast at "Kartoshka", a chain of small snacks, oven potatoes with various ingredients to be the man. Then we latschten the 2km to the headquarters of 1C. Kuzma led us through the office and introduced us briefly present all employees of Maddox Games. It gave us an insight into each of its working areas. : Very interesting in the allocation of resources:
- 4 man working on aircraft and cockpits
- 3 man at KI, FM, layout and general programming
- 3 man on the ground objects
- 2 man at graphics / effects, etc.
- 1 man, "the" Map
- 1 woman textures & buildings
- 1 man on the weather
- 1 man at the Sound
There is also, according to Oleg again almost exactly as many "external" employees.

Short individual issues on which we have shown, nor had said:

1. 1st Map: Some me more bitmap-based, but vector. This means that we moved (with xy resolution 1cm, height resolution 10cm) contour lines, rivers, roads. The rivers may also be at any point the width should be established. This represents a giant leap for the naturalistic representation of roads, rivers and the altitude model!

2. 2nd Soil texture: It is a new (nvidia) format with several levels of information, not more tga. The textures now also include information for the AI, such as local high speeds. This includes smaller roads / trails. It is also considerably more texture than in IL-2.

3. 3rd. Streets: There will be more types of road than in IL-2 "and also to their" relocation "more feasible (see map).

4. 4th KI: Objects can be partly or must interact. Example: A listening station consists of generator wagon, several surveillance and radio station. If the central generator car fails, the whole listening station out of operation. What you with such logical links can achieve remains the imagination of the reader to decide. I could imagine, for example, that marine parts, AI crews, etc. so verknüpft werden. in such a way.

5. 5th Ground vehicles: You get a "FM", such as suspension for vehicles. Using the example of a Pz.III has shown us how many of that vehicle in the future for the plates are provided. There were certainly more than a dozen, eg 4 bar crosses, 2x Division marks, 2x registration plates, 2x company / regiment / ...

6. 6th Ground objects: statement was here that most of the buildings 2 damage levels have (undamaged, destroyed). Some are more levels. We saw a few small French town building.

7. 7th: Aircraft:
- -- The financial model is further refined, such as radio, oxygen supply, control cable.
- There will be two injury-optics, "MG-hit" and "cannon hits. "MG" is a hole exactly where a ball / small grenade hits. "Cannon" is like "IL-2" a "prefabricated" damage claims in the appropriate area.
The division of the machines in these areas will damage finer than in "IL-2". All we saw the example of a Bf110C.
It showed us the cockpit and 109E Spit I.
-- Furthermore, the Do17 as scouts with DB-engines, for this type, we Maddox Games original documents (bought in air Archive Hafner).

8. 8th Vessels: Depending on the size of individual parts (masts, cannons, ...) individual damage models, including the areas under water (screws, etc.).

9. 9th Sound: It was very expensive original recordings from aircraft. We could give an example of spatial convince listening, as the sound of an engine for change in head position and gaze direction ( "listening direction") changes.

10. 10th (Sub) water graphics: It is a kind of underwater scenery worked, where there is also a camera hinbewegen. We saw a surf, the more realistic effect than those in "IL-2".

Very interesting to read. I'll quickly translate some of the most interesting answers, then a native German can do it all later on http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

4: Ground objects can now work together instead of being totally independent from one another. An example is given that if you take out the power generator of an enemy outpost, there equipment that relies on that power will stop working (radios etc).

5: Ground units have their own "FM", and are also able to carry appropriate markings.

7: More refined DM. Radio and oxygen equipment can be damaged.
-Abitlity to use the DO17 as a reconnaissance (don't think they mean it's flyable)

8: Ships have their own damage model (Cannons, masts, propulsion)

9: sounds: Original aircraft sounds are being recorded to use on the according planes in the sim.

That's just my quick translation.

Wow not wishing to be the eternal negative voice (Im not really!) but is it possible that this new sim is being mad TOO complex!!!???Some of this stuff seems really above and beyond the call of duty so to speak .Thats all well and good striving for excellence but if its delaying release by years thats bound to be a problem for many of the prospective purchasers ...Plus what sort of PC is gonna run this kind of sim where it seems every blade of grass is going to have its own 'engine'!?

Fortunately you will probably be able to turn down options until its flyable. Turning on features, will be like flying a new sim, as we upgrade our systems. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Could not agree more Spectre, but I suspect that with all that is going to be included we are still a ways away from launch.

Very intriguing though, and in a way poses more questions than it answers.

I've always thought that SOW was going to be more than just a flight sim, and that appears to be the case.

Perhaps you could interview Oleg for your column in Flight Journal?

As to the interview, I did so before, WAY back in the CombatSim.com

to be as to what is happening now. Or, has happened, with
the lag you see in published mags.

There is another wrong translation in this line too:

Weiterhin kommt die Do17 als Aufklärer mit DB-Motoren
Babelfish translated DB-Motoren as railway engines. In this case DB means Daimler Benz-engines and not Deutsche Bundesbahn (= German Railway)

9. Sound: Es wurden sehr aufwendig Aufnahmen an originalen Flugzeugen durchgeführt.
Means: In many cases recordings of original airplanes are being used.

I still run an 8 year old Athlon with a processor upgrade but only PC133 DRAM. A 3 year old X850 graphics card as well.

Its fine for skinning and mission writing (my main interest these days) and is good enough for the odd offline campaign mission when I do get tempted to actually fly again (20 FPS in perfect).

I considered upgrading when I got FSX but decided FSX wasn't good enough to justify a new PC. I suspect I will not bother buying SOW for at least a year maybe more after SOW comes out as well. I am in no rush to have the latest and greatest toys.

Ironically I WOULD pay for an upgrade to IL2 because it runs on my current PC fine.

If SOW is as cinematic as OM hopes the program could be used for CGI movies. If memory serves me OM did mention just that.
