About 2-3 months old. Perfect cond. Fast and smooth. I'm being stupid, and buying a new one. It's cheaper to sell this one, and buy a new one, than upgrade the old one. Very good deal for some one. I'll give all specs for anybody interested. It will be available in 3 weeks. It's based on P4 3.06 ,9800 pro, 1g corsair, aluminum case etc.

Just one step up on everything 3.2, 800 bus MB 3200 ram, 5900. The 9800 never ran Grand Prix Legends that good. It's great for all other games though, but GPL is 5 years old, and likes nvidia cards. It's $2200 for parts for the upgrade from Falcon. This is a better way. Someone gets a good deal on a Falcon, and i'll get another new system. Stupid to alot of you, but I came into more money lately, and I might as well spend it while I can. I'm trying to time it, so I run out the day I die../i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I'll check into it, but I thought Intel switched to DDR ram. I asked for the fastest system they make, and DDR ram is what they gave me.

Hmm, in the same time i see top Alienware system has the same setup you`v been offered... P4 3.0/800FSB with PC3200..go figure. Maybe there is some issues with RD RAM and gaming? You should start another topic mate lol.

My development PC had P4 2.8/533FSB with 1GB of PC800 RDRAM and man, i gotta tell ya.. this thing faster then anything i`v been using. Well is has two 32gb 10,000 rpm SCSI in it too. I wish i could afford something like that for home.... oh well. Maybe one day.

LOL! Go Buzz go! A little clarification on the whole issue. First of all the P4 front side bus does not run at 800Mhz. It is "quad pumped" at 200mhx. This means there is 4 buses runing at 200Mhz which is roughly equivalent to a 800mhz bus.
Second is that because the DDR is running 2 transfers per clock the ram is actually running at 200Mhz. Therefore PC3200 + 800FSB == synchronous transfers, i.e. both running at 200Mhz. This will help with latentcy and generally speed up the system. Also the new P4 motherboards run their ram dual channel. If you wanted to just add up numbers the way all these marketing people do you could say that the PC3200 is running at 800Mhz too /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
Anyhow you all probably stopped reading after the first sentence confused by my "clarification" because I cant write so I will end with a tip for the wealthy. Even if you can aford good quality single malt scotch dont drink and fly.

dual channel PC3200 has the same bandwidth as the 800mhz fsb. RDRAM 1066 dual channel has less. You would need quad channel DDR 800 to get the same bandwidth as PC3200. And RDRAM chipset motherboards are all old and outdated. DDR is where everything is going. BTW sweet system specs there Buzz. You could easily do that upgrade for $1500 easily if you did it yourself. Plus then you could overclock the sh!t out of it and maybe get that CPU running at like 3.6ghz/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I gave up building my own systems. They always ran pretty good, but always had little problems, and never were as fast as I thought they should be. I like Falcon. Any problems, and I can just call them. It's much easier than waiting for answers on the forum. They gave me good service on the first system, so I want to keep the warranty going. Hopefully I can find a buyer for the old (sheesh 2 mon) system to stop the bleeding../i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Check this out Buzz

http://www.ocaddiction.com/articles/video/fx_5900ultra_vs_radeon_9800pro/pg8.shtml

People I have talked to all say the 5900 is performing the same way...... Getting it's tail waxed by the 9800. Keep in mind Nvidia's AA is horrible..... just for haha's compare the 4 x's screenshots...... having a 4 x's AA that performs/looks like 2 x's or less is hardly a performance boost.....just a lame attempt to increase speed at the expense of picture quality... I'll be sticking with my 9800 TY /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Not sure what you guys are reading. The 9800 may have a slightly better picture, but it hardly outperforms the 5900. From that test.

The BFG GF FX 5900 Ultra 256MB Asylum is easily the fastest card I have ever tested. The 5800 Ultra series cards failed to put nVidia back in the top spot as the fastest video card available but rest assured they are making every effort to get back into the drivers seat and the GF FX 5900 Ultra appears to be doing a fine job. Here are a few Highs and Lows to finish up the review.

Highs

Excellent Performance across the board

Aggressive and effective cooling

As always, great driver support out of the box

Respectable Overclocker with 2D/3D Overclocking

Stable Mounting system

Nice retail package with software and cables/connectors

True Lifetime Warranty

Lows

High Price tag

3D Visual quality not quite perfected

Brittle 4-Pin power connector

That about wraps it up. We thoroughly enjoyed testing the BFG GF FX 5900 Ultra 256MB Asylum video card and were impressed at the numbers it put up today. Would I recommend this card? While the price tag puts it out of reach of all but the most hardcore enthusiasts, I believe anyone who was willing to spend the money would not be disappointed. You'll have a great looking, great performing card, that will not only play today's games smoothly, but will also play tomorrow's high-end games as well. We can't wait to see Half Life 2 and Doom3 in action and anticipate the GF FX 5900 Ultra to run them quite well and that's why I believe the BFG Asylum easily deserves the OCA Recommended Award.

Conclusion

Let's break down performance of both cards and see which one comes out on top.

UT2k3 - FX 5900 Ultra - While both cards perform well, the FX 5900 comes out on top

AquaMark - R9800 Pro - The R9800 takes home the gold in this real-world benchmark

Comanche 4 - R9800 Pro - The R9800 also wins out by an edge for this nearly obsolete benchmark

Specviewperf 7.0 - R9800 Pro - This one is really close but the #'s lean to the R9800

Code Creatures - FX 5900 Ultra - The 5900 beats up the R9800 pretty good in this intensive benchmark

Splinter Cell - R9800 Pro - Hands down, the R9800 takes it in this awesome game from UBISoft

ShaderMark - R9800 Pro - While the FX 5900 Ultra makes a good showing, the R9800 wins this one

3DMark 01 SE Build 330 - R9800 Pro - The R9800 takes top honors with this tried and true synthetic benchmark

3DMark 03 Build 320 - FX 5900 Ultra - Should we include this? Possibly not, however the FX 5900 wins with WHQL Det Drivers

3D Visual Quality - R9800 Pro hands down

And the winner is.........The FIC ATi Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB. We compared these cards in every category we could think of and in the end, we saw better performance overall from the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro. Did the FX 5900 fail to impress us? No, not at all. We believe both cards are worthy of any good system but we do have to tip our hats to the excellent performance that the Radeon 9800 Pro has showed us here today.

Go back, and look at all those tests. I don't see anything but the 5900 kicking butt. Here's the Aqua test. Does it look like the 9800 won?

http://www.ocaddiction.com/reviews/video/BFG_5900Ultra/pg5.shtml

I've seen the result of a FB test at 1600 res 4X fsaa, and the 5900 was getting almost twice the fps than the 9800.

My last point is, Falcon has tested both cards for awhile now, and they like the 5900 better. I tend to believe them more.

The first thing I noticed when I switched from the 4600 to the 9700, was the colors looked washed out. The nvidia card colors always looked vibriant, and jumped out at me. The ATI colors looked like I had contrast turned all the way down. I'm hoping to get that look back from the 5900.

As a side note. ATI cards are lousy for Grand Prix Legends. ATI can't run the OpenGL patch, and the 3D patch is optimised for nvidia. The ATI card also has stutter problems in replays.

Another thing I notice about ATI is white/silver shimmers big time. It looks like giant jaggies at a distance. I've never been able to get rid of it. It does it when the rest of the picture is jaggie free. I don't remember this from nvidia cards. Any ideas?

I had the same problem with my 4600 (white jaggies)

I prefer actually the blended look of the ATI color then the vibrance enhanced Nvidia one. The ATI tones look more warm/real to me. I have worked with colors daily matching, creating, and have been to multiple schools from Dupont,Basf,PPG,Spies Hecker, Standox, Pantone, and a few other less known companies just for color matching and I would say ATI renders the best color.... now remember I have and do own Nvidia cards also so it's not a fan boy mentality /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I guess it's a personal thingy. I like the brighter colors. Maybe because of my failing eyesight.

So there is no cure for the white /silver jaggies? It's terrible in racing sims with alot of armco lining the whole track. Do you think the 5900 will be any better than the 9800 in that respect?
