I'll be traveling to England today from the U.S. , my first time over the pond . I plan on going to Duxford as well as some other points of interest . I'm a huge aviation fan (aren't we all ?). Coincidently it's Battle of Britain day . I'm really looking forward to this trip . The only drawback is I have to wait two weeks to get back home and fly Forgotten Battles !! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

The Yanks are coming !!!

You'll enjoy Duxford - they also have a huge purpose-built hangar there filled with US aircraft - including a B52, A10 Tank Buster, P51 etc. etc.

Have fun!

Why dont you find out if a fellow brit pilot lives near where you are staying. Then maybe you could go around his/her place and play FB in the evening.
This way you dont have to miss out.

Dear Family
Having a great time here in England.
Not had chance to see the sights.
I have been to busy flying COOPs
and Dogfights.
Take care
Sturmtrooper

p.s Got some great screenshots to show you when I get home.

Have a good time Sturmtrooper.

If you have time, I'd recommend two other aircraft collections within an hour's travel of Duxford (with a car):

The RAF museum Hendon in North london - many German planes ironically!

Shuttleworth at Old Warden, near Sandy just off the A1 - some WW2 stuff, mainly older though. Boasts the oldest flying plane in the world. Even better if you can catch an airshow.

Have fun.

Hope you enjoy your time here Sturm and I can only echo the previous statements about where to visit.Has to be Duxford (I'll be there next month for the 1st time ever...woohoo) and the excellent (and free) RAF Museum, Hendon.

Hendon RAF museum is under re-arrangement at present. It's still open but some planes have been moved into a room you cannot access. Bf109g was not on show last time I went.

However it's still worth a visit but it's not at it's best. And it's FREE.

PS Hendon Town it'self is a suburban run down horrible dump.

I was born there and it's never got any better.
