Excuse my North American ignorance...what the heck are those? I've never seen anything like that...although I suspect I know what they are for. Still...do tell.

I know in England we had some outside malls when I last visited and cars drove thru them also. I wonder if this is to control the traffic at the outside malls

By the way in England were my mother lives they have vans going around to see if people are watching TV without paying their TV tax.

And thats not on cable or satellite etc. Thats on regular over the air TV.

Great stuff. I love stupid people almost as much as sheep jokes.

The posts are a way to restrict traffic. Community/State vehicles are authorized to drive over the posts but not private vehicles.

In Norway, they have a kind of checkpoint boom that automatically lifts up for a bus but won't for a private vehicle.

At least in Norway you get to see that something is obstructing you. In the video (England) you don't see anything until after you get out of the car to see what's wrong. There must be some warning signs in front of the posts, but it still seems to me like an unacceptable (and cruel) way to restrict traffic.

They have that in Norway too. The dominant TV station in Norway is (for all practical purposes) state-run so viewers are expected to pay a tax to the TV station if they view this station. But at least this broadcaster doesn't have commercials.

I think the flashing red beacons, traffic ramp with LARGE red spot on it signs warning of the situation etc....are a clue.... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

Jeg synes NRK er helt fint - og jeg betaler ikke lisensavgift heller !! Lucky me !

FluffyDuck - when you cross the national borders, your IQ goes down 50 points. Haven't you ever noticed how stupid (foreign) tourists seem ?

But if those people in the video were English, then I guess they don't have an excuse.

No, these people are just chancers trying to sneak their way through a pedestrianised city-centre High Street. It was their don't-give-a-damn-for-pedestrians attitude that made the City Council install the system in the first place. If you watch carefully you'll see that they are actually trying to beat the system. Number one in the silver car reverses back to wait for a bus to go through, while the guy in the black car actually accelerates in an attempt get across. It's not like they're unaware that the system exists or what it's for - they're just chancers, and losers http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Great vid, thanks for posting. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

LOL!!

That`ll teach`em!

No,seriously the guy who approved this would get kicked out in no time in me country.

Although there are two signs that inform about this, the possibility of such things happening should be eliminated.I`m sure the city owes money to those people shown on the film.

A simple big STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sign on the road should do the job more effectively.

That's hilarious. Even with two big luminous stop signs and a bloody great road marking they still tried it on.

Having been lightly though painfully run over by some chancer who thought he'd just nip up a one way street to save himself 90 seconds I've bugger all sympathy for people who know full well what they're doing when they decide to make life a tint easier for themselves, and get speared by a rising bollard.

As too lost and confused tourists getting spiked, well that might not be very fair.

That last white van driver actually cracks the windscreen with his head. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

The posts should flip the cars, like on Robot Wars.
