I enjoy reading this forum and now I need your advise...
My monitor is dead.(ADI g66 19") (After 3 years of intense air combat)
What do you recommend to get?
Flat panel or CRT
Is it worth it to pay $1600.00 for FPM 21.3" with 1600x1200 resol? Or I would be enjoy the same way with CRT for $600
Is FPM safer for you eyes?

I like to use 1600x1200x32 resolution with at least 75HZ
I have ATI 9000 PRO video card

Iam considering buying a new monitor(CRT) within a month or two. And its going to be either a Samsung 957NF 19" (1600x1200@85hz) or Nec-Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2070 22"(2048x1536@86hz). They are both reasonably priced esp. the samsung. Cheap even. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

flat panels will not work with 3D glasses -- otherwise seem OK

I don't know anything about 3D glasses http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

What do they do?
What is a price range for them?

I would HIGHLY recommend Viewsonic monitors.

Fantastic quality at a very, very good price.

I just picked up one of their 19" CRTs, the A90f+ for $224 after rebate.

Personally, I just don't think the LCD screens are good enough or cheap enough to warrant the expense.

Another couple years and they'll be great... but not yet.

Go w/ a CRT. Flat panels are getting better but still can't touch a CRT for image quality.

As for size, (and size DOES count), go as big as you can afford. Get a flat screen. Almost no reflection. Excellent resolution at corners.

I've got an NEC MultiSync FE991SB, 19" flat screen. Max resolution is 1792 X 1344 @ 65Hz w/ .25 mm dot pitch. Looks incredible at 1600 X1200 @ 85 Hz.

Picked it up new for 225 USD.

Apparently WHEN they work they are stunning even make shooting more accurate and increase immersion immensely.

Downside .. people have problems getting the Edimensional ones to work with IL2 and with ATI cards .. some people get them going fine others never do .... its a driver issue.

What do you mean trouble?

What they don't like ATI card's or bad vision?

How can I know that I'm going to have a problem?
Or at least expect it.

I want it though... you know somthing new and cool

Get a Viewsonic CRT monitor, they are pretty cheap on newegg.com.

AMD Athlon XP 1700+ T-Bred B
Epox 8K9AI
PC2100 512MB DDR
GeForce 4 Ti4600 128MB
Game Theater XP w/ Sony MHC-BX6AV

not sure of the details check the technical forum .. I do know you need special "stereo" graphics drivers

i do not think ATI had workable stereo drivers at all at one stage ... but there was some sorta patch or something to fix it.

the other problem is even with nvidia cards where the 3D worked great in Counterstrike and the MS flight sims people had setup hastles in FB..

it CAN work, and if it does its pretty amazing apparently in IL2, but personally i would hold off on the 3d for a few months to see if it gets sorted out or at least make sure you can return it if you cannot get it to work probably ..

If you want something new and "hi-tech" consider spending the money on the TrackIR head tracking that lets you look around the cockpit by moving your head instead.

Sony CPD-G520P

21" it s what I have and I do 1600x1200 85hz easy. It will do 2000x whatever too but I never tried setting it at 85 hz there (GF4ti4400 won't physically go that high) Beatiful Sony monitor (totally styling!) and can be had for like $650 (although don't expect perfect geometry on any flatscreen CRT/TV)
