I was wondering what resolutions this game supports. I have a widescreen monitor with a native resolution of 1680 x 1050. Will I be able to run it that high?

I think we should add starforce into this thread too!
Sorry Keithlljk, its a 'had to be there' thing. These have been two thoroughly debated issues for a week or more.

Yea, 1024 x 768, that's what I thought. Oh well, I'm sure it will still look beautiful.

I hope your kidding....You are aware that the reason a TV looks ok is because of it's size. If you put the resolution of a TV (about 400x320) on a moniter, it would look horrid.

This game better have some sort of ajustable resolution, or it will serioulsy lose a lot of it's potential. 1024x768? No modern game uses that archaic resolution.

About this resolution stuff...

Look at the Vids, is that a game you'd enjoy playing, image wise? How about the screen shots? I know I would and I wouldn't care if the resolution couldn't go past 1024x768, because the stills and vids show me that it's going to be very enjoyable at that "low" resolution. Plus watch what you call archaic, we CAD ppl think 1600x1200 is archaic too.

Again...No one seems to realize that all of these videos and screenshots are about as big as my Gameboy. Show me a picture thats 1024x768, or a video, then we can talk. The graphics might look great when your looking at a
sized down image, but once you blow it up, its a whole new ballgame.

My tv supports 800x600 images and its a really old crappy sony.

As for the videos of silent hunter III ive played them full screen on my 19" monitor and they look ok.

But I was most reassured when hearing the testomony of the "lucky 10" that acutally played the game for most of a day last saturday. Everyone has written glowing reports of the visuals from their exposure that day.

Go into the gallery on the SH3 page and click on an image their in 1024x768.

I just did a quick check, the tutorial video for the deck gun is in 640x480, considering I enlarged it to fit my 1280x1024 desktop on my 19" monitor it didnt come out too bad at all. (only using windows media player full screen)

I never said it looked BAD, I just noted that it COULD look much, much better if they supported higher resolutions. The fact that they didn't is very odd, as well as frustrating.

Agreed, having more options is always better, Im sure there was a valid reason to "lock" it at 1024x768 that only the devs know of (we dont know if there are ways around this yet).

But from what I've read from people that played the game its definately not going to look ****e.

I've played the game, and believe me, resolutions or lack of didn't even enter my mind. They have made this game look beautiful, and I was in awe (as were all the others).

Put it this way, you can have 10 half-arsed programs that run graphics at 1600 x 1200, that all look bad, beaten by one well written program running at 1024 x 768 that looks great (because of the effort put in). This is the case with SH3. It looks much better than its numbers suggest!!!

BobTuck.

But what size moniter were you playing on? a 15"? That's what concerns me...for those of us with larger moniters, the game won't look very good.

Okie dokie... been lurking on this forum for about a week now, desperately awaiting this game. And right now, this resolution conspiracy is topping my list of worries.

Bob, I understand the game probably looks great regardless of resolution. That's promising to hear. And even though I bought a high-end gaming system so I can enjoy all the eye-candy I want, I've always been a "substance over graphics" gamer. I have little doubt I'm going to enjoy this game for what it is.

But here's why the static resolution bothers me: I own a 19" LCD with a native resolution of 1280x1024. Forcing it to display any other resolution distorts and blurs the picture. Unacceptable. And while I could probably play in "windowed" mode, I think playing this game within the confines of my desktop would kill a lot of the immersion for me.... not to mention look ugly.

I just feel this is a strong and valid reason to complain about the default low-res settings. Having an unchangeable low resolution does sound very simplistic... and lazy?

I do realize that, as of now, this is all just a rumor and hasn't even been confirmed. I'm still hoping for resolution options.

With all that being said: 6 more days!! WOOO!

I have a Dell 20" LCD, so this is why it's such a big concern for me as well. The last game that used a locked resolution was Master of Orion 3. And as a result, the game sucked, and didn't sell very well. Now obvioulsly SHIII is a completley different game...but if the resolution IS locked, it will definetley turn away a lot of potential buyers that have high-end systems, or large LCD moniters. (Not as few as you think). What we need is someone from Ubi give us some info on this matter.

Right - I didn't overclock my processor by 600mhz, buy a gig of low latency ram, wait months for a 6800GT, and lug this 21" monitor to school with me so that I can play a game in 10x7.
