What's the best Army surplus store that sells authentic vintage military-all nations-stuff,in the Austin area ?
I've heard about The Quonset Hut off of Guadalupe, but,I also they have heard they have lots of stuff that's not for sale?

I can go to Killeen and get modern stuff cheap,so I mean vintage only. How does it compare to Col. Bubbie's,on The Strand,in Galveston,TX?

Any help would be appreciated. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Quonset Hut (by McBride's) is the only place I know of except what you find at the various gun shows. A long time ago before they got into sporting goods, Academy (then Academy Surplus) had a bunch of neat stuff.

I remember Academy when they were still surplus, they were across I-35 from Concordia Lutheran College-roughly.

Anyway, thanks for the info,it kinda confirms what one dude told me,The Quonset Hut(Austin),Col. Bubbie's-Galveston (http://www.colbubbie.com/),and Omaha's-Ft. Worth (http://www.omahas.com/catalog/default.php) are some of a small handful of 'real, vintage surpluses' in the state.

Next time I'm in Austin,I'm checking 'The Quonset Hut' out;the Mrs. always wants to go to 'Central Market'(N. Lamar),since it's so close how can I not use it as an excuse? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/partyhat.gif

Esel,

I don't know, but I'll ask at work today. You'd think there would be something down in South Austin.

Did not realize that you and Oilburner lived here.

Cool.

Waco huh? I used to go fishing down there almost every weekend when I lived just up I-35W south of DFW in Burleson...home of Kelly Clarkson...hehe.

Of course that was before the days of Lake Fork.

I don't blame you for going to Fork.
I personally like Lake Whitney vs. Lake "chocolate milk" Waco.

The nice bass that are in Lake Waco seem so color-picky,because of the uber-muddy water;one day they want black or purple, the next chartreuse.
Whitney's more consistent I feel because the turbidity remains real low.

Oh man...nothing like grabbing a square slice and sitting next to the window watching the "traffic" go by... It's closed now http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif
