That is a heck of an article. Sounds like Franz was an amazing man and I bet you must have enjoyed the heck out of getting to talk with him for so long.

Thanks for posting the link.

fuller, it is great of you to put up the article. thx a LOT!

However, you should make stieglers replies more readable. I know spoken language is full of those uh's, oh's and pauses, but it is perfectly acceptable to edit it out of the transcript and make legible phrases. That's what's done professionally (I'm a historian). The reading would be much less of a chore...

Hi,

I'm actually a writer too, and I originaly had the entire thing edited. After much debate, I decided to have Stigler's words verbatim (sp?). I thought it showed more of his character, personality, and language.

I'm a writer as well, and I enjoyed the way the interview was presented. Thanks for sharing.

Read the whole article. Thanks for positing it. I guess you never really know who your neighbors are. My family lived on the Queen Charlotte Islands in the middle '50s when I was a boy and I now live in Langley, B.C. which is about half an hour from Mr. Stigler's home.

cheers fuller,i have it bookmarked also, but had forgotten.i grew up in northern b.c(now in van)makes me smile to think he and galland might have been flying around looking for moose, lol.thx, again for the reminder.

After it was refeuled i climbed in.With many manipulations the mechcanics started the turbines.I followed their actions with the greatest of interest. The first one started quite easily.the second caught fire.In no time the whole engine was on fire.Luckily as a fighter pilot i was used to getting quickly out of the cockpit. The fire was quickly put out.The second plane caused no trouble - Adolf Galland (first time in a ME262)

Thanks, ptefuller1. Transcript is the right format for this; it gives an authentic tone to the interview that would be hard to get in an edited article.

Interesting stuff!

Some interesting reading, I like reading interviews from the people that really flew the planes and how they used them compared to how we use them.

I think the question about the muzzle flash was answered quite well too.

I'd like to read a Japanese pilots account of things if theres any transcripts out there similar to this?

I take it he's out of the hospital then? He was having a lung complication a while ago, or so I heard on this forum. I wrote to him. I hope he got my letter. Basically I just told him about how much I appreciated his stories, and I told him a few stories about me, for laughs. Laughter is the best medicine.

When you've got lung complications laughing is the last thing you want to do http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
Believe me, I had a pneumonia recently.

Back to topic:
Interesting interview, a little bit chaotic perhaps (some parts appear twice).
