Il2 is a terrific combat flight sim without peers. It truly stands head and shoulders above everything else in this genre. I have played now for about 9 months and still wonder at the fact I still love it and can't fit enough hours into the day to play. The game is very immersive and I think it's as realistic as you can get playing on a computer, apart from one point.
When I get killed I have a sense of dissapointment and inadequacy but then I just start again.
Not very realistic is it?

My solution:

I have rigged up a very simple electronic box with a push to contact switch for my foot (I have not aquired pedals yet.) I attach two wires either side of my temples (I don't have track IR yet either), plug into the mains and when I get killed I push my foot on the contact switch.

I tell you what! it makes you think twice about getting killed.

Do you think there would be a market out there for this type of equipment it could be modified for those of you using pedals and/or track IR.

Ubi/anyone are you interested?

Any thoughts.

FB is beginning to scare me now. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

Please re-think this idea of yours. Perhaps it will be safer if you play FB online with other people. Okay, they are weirdos but at least they are real people...well humanoid at least. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Perhaps a better motivation for offline players would be to know that one's "death" will result in you not helping anymore in the air and ground war beneath you. But for that you need to be able to re-arm and refuel, and have multiple takeoffs in a single mission. FB can't do that unless you write a computer program to manage the results from the previous mission.

Oleg, please let us re-arm and re-fuel.

Oleg, please, think of our physical safety.

Very nice. But you've forgotten one important thing: getting wounded. Not getting killed is all well and good, but you need some motivation for not getting shot at at all.
I think a more complex electronic circuit that could be attached to your computer (via USB?) and would activate an electric motor whenever you get wounded in the game, that would pull a rope attached to the trigger of a rifle pointed at your arm, would be the best answer. Then you have true realism! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

BTW: I hope that thread was a joke mate. I really do.

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

Thats to complicated and costly. I have an agreement with my girlfriend. I can play FB until I get killed. At that point she hits me from behind with a stun gun. After a few minutes when I can move again, she has already turned the pc off and its time to go do something else. Thats incentive not to get killed!

Hmm. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

I wonder how something like this would work on those Grand Theft Auto games. I've never played the GTA games (I've never fantasized about being a criminal, really) but still, if you wanted realism, you could include a slip inside each GTA game box that guarrantees the purchaser to a 10 year stay in the local penitentury. Then when you get caught, or what ever happens to you when you mess up in GTA, you could check yourself in at the pen, and give it another try when your out in 10 years, or probation, more likely. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

You two guys have got to be just trying to get a thread rousted up, aren't you? You've got to be kidding? Got to be. I don't know. There are nuts in this world. And if you are being serious, please tell some one close to you, or maybe your doctor. Boys, you need help. There comes a time when you have to trust a stranger. Trust me, you need help.

Or maybe I need help. Don't know. That might be an idea to be explored. Inflicting pain on yourself or by anothers hand, when you get wounded. And twice as much pain when you get killed. How's that sound?

After reading the above paragraph, answer the question at the end. Where do you stand? If your answer is anything other than "it's a good idea", you are alright. If not, you're afflicted in an abnormal kind of way. ~S~
