Fantastic I can't wait to download it...i've been looking forward to trying this one out.

Typical that you should release it when i'm working late tonight and taking my wife out for a meal tomorrow... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

How do you think she'll react if i tell her "I can't go out tonight, I want to stay in and play on Forgotten battles" !!!

Wow! Quick responses! Thanks a lot guys.
@jasonbirder - Probably the same way my wife has reacted to the best part of 4 months spent tooling around with the FMB http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

She'll speak to me again one day http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif.

FlatSpin...something's goofed up. Airwarfare links to Gaston's Campagne Espagne that you helped translate last Fall, instead of Kondor Legion. You should never p*ss into the wind, and you should never upload your campaign at 2:00 AM. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif

Thanks for the awards and kind comments guys http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif but the proof of the pudding is in the eating. I appreciate the sentiment though.
Anyway, I uploaded it last night and it is definitely at Airwarfare but as there is a delay between receiving a file and being able to display it I guess it'll be available forthwith.

Re: Skins - there are some really good and really INTERESTING schemes on display in this campaign. I'd like to thank all the skinners involved - the list is huge but it includes:
bird_brain, CanonUK, Tchaika, Tuckie, Snorri&Bradhawk, Jutocsa, TROMPLAMORT, vp_media,VF-1 Ferez, Rudel, Cinke11, Ayuk, Optio, and many more. Thank you for making this sim so great!!!

Also, I have to thank my two highly talented beta-testers, Saunders1953(wonder how old he is?) and Han Freak Solo. Campaign makers, I can thoroughly recommend their services, particularly now that we got Saunders potty-trained (thanks for holding his...um..."hand"... on that one, Mr Solo).

Thank you, GD. You've been a great audience!

A question:
Did I understand rightly that I don't need to download any skins if I've already installed the ones that came with the Spanish Civil War campaign (of yours)?

FlatSpinMan
02-17-2006, 07:18 AM
You were right, Mark. The campaign only appeared about three hours ago. As for smilies, I checked the French forum - they have some really cool ones including, and I don't want to cause a stampede from here to there, a dancing banana!

@Major Setback - Actually Maj, there are still some other skins needed. They are included in the .RAR file. Gaston's file mostly includes skins used for the Republican side which you'll only be seeing through your gunsight in this campaign(all going well).Be sure to copy across the 109 skins into the BF109E4 folder, too.

@ zlin, if you PM me your email address I can send it to you as an .ACE file. I think I still have that floating around my desktop...

Well, well... now we have not only 1, but 2 Spanish Civil War campaign !!! One red sided, one blue sided... isn't life beautiful ???

So download the 2 of them, so you will have everything to make them work well, because the 100 Mo one contains most of the skins used in the 2 campaigns !!!

FlatSpinMan

@Treetop - yep. The Spanish Civil War. My one is for the Blue team (ie, Nationalist/Fascists/ Monarchists), gaston's(aka DjTeD) is for the Red team. Both are available at airwarfare - look for "Campagne Espana" under Gaston's campaign list. My one uses heaps of skins from his one so getting both is a good idea- big download though -together it's 123MB.

Before the story continues, some background on our belligerents is in order.

You have without a doubt heard of our hero, Forrest €œThe Experten€ Schultz. Once Forrest had arrived in Spain, he had encountered in the enemy a pair of brothers with a hatred towards himself that was unparalled in warfare up to this time.

The two that hate Forrest so intently are of course Juan and Javier Iglesias.

http://www.lssdigital.com/lwpilot/juaniglesias.jpg http://www.lssdigital.com/lwpilot/javieriglesias.jpg

Juan's and Javier's family, the Iglesias, are a powerful mob family that have a variety of black market trading endeavors. Those endeavors had led to a back door of smuggled inventory from Germany to Spain, via Switzerland. It is in Switzerland where two Iglesias family members gave their lives. They were cousins of Juan and Javier. Their names are Julio and Julio. They are brothers.

You see, Julio's and Julio's parents forgot that they had named their first son Julio. When their 5th child rolled out, they named him Julio as well.

Julio and Julio were smuggler's for the family business. They too were aero-pilots. Since the Iglesias were capable of getting whatever they wanted, Julio and Julio had "acquired" a pair of the new Messerschmidt Bf-109Ds. They had a great time flying them in the Swiss Alps, terrorizing the local merchants that had not purchased the proper "insurance".

Finally, the day had come for them to meet their maker and I'm not talking about Momma und Pappa.

One dark and stormy night, the Iglesias family had conned a young Luftwaffe pilot to steal a new Bf-109D and fly it safely into Iglesias' hands. Swiss spies that were sympathetic to Germany had uncovered this plan. Forrest "The Experten" Schultz was dispatched to eliminate this Bf-109 from falling into the wrong hands. Forrest did so immediately sending down his former comrade in flames.

Shortly after, Forrest was bounced by two very unfriendly Bf-109s in the once peaceful Swiss Alps. The two "bouncers" were of course Julio and Julio.

Julio and Julio didn't stand a chance.

Looks great. The skins are fantastic! What planes are included? In Spanish civil war there was I 16 Type 6 (2 machine guns) and Type 10 (4 machine guns, I recomend to use Type 18 as Type 10). Also I recomend to use I 153 as I 15 bis (but no retacting the landing train)(of couse machine gun only).
There was a very little number of Fiat G 50 and no Fiat cr 42, only He 51 and Fiat Cr 32. I recommend not to use the engine of Cr 42 at 100% power.
Very very few Bf 109 E-1 were in this war. The common versions were B, C an D with various machine gun configurations (2, 3 and 4). I recommend not to use 20mm guns.
I supose that PZL is a "Dewoitine 371" or a "Loire 46". Good idea, aspect and performance are very similar.
If you are interested in the theme, I reccomend you the book "Legion Condor" by Peter Elstob

Hi ojcar1971,
Thanks for the comments and suggestions. You are dead right in your choice of planes included although there are a couple of replacements to account for the planes available in-game (and to make things fun). It includes:
I-16 (earliest in-game example)
I-153(ditto)
BF-109E4 and E4/B (in place of B,C,D models)
CR-42 as HE-50 trainer, Hs-123 attack plane, CR-32
P-11c as Dewoitine D-37 and Nieuport NiD-52 (honestly I just used them as they "look about right" and make the fights more varied)
Also there are Katyushas, Ju-52s, He-111s (again, not the actual model used in the SCW but what we have in-game)
A few G.50s

The skins are from a wide variety of very talented and generous skinners. See the readme for more info.
Cheers!

Very very very interesting campaing. What about a "Escuadrilla Azul" campaing? They flew both Bf 109 and Fw 190 in Russia.
Unfortunately, the spanish republican pilots fighting in the soviet side didn't have their proper units (unlike the French)

@nachtjadg - Glad you are enjoying it so far. Thaks for letting me know.
Regarding your problem, did you select the highest rank at the start of the campaign? If you did, you should be at the front of the line of 109s and the bombs should miss you. I played around a lot with waypoints and speeds so that in the end, 9 times out of 10 I was totally undamaged. One of my testers got whacked once or twice in this mission though, I believe

If you have "No Instant Success" turned off (as I do) then you can just spawn, hit "escape" and then you should be able to select "apply" and proceed to the next mission.

If you have "No Instant Success" on then I'm afraid you're stuck there. In that case you could just restart the campaign, making sure you select the highest rank, then start each mission, hit escape and apply until you are up to the next mission.

Hope it helps, man.

Let me know how it goes.

http://www.lssdigital.com/lwpilot/LK005.jpg

If so, you can see that only the leader (highest rank) survives. I flew this mission twice.

1st time - "player heavily wounded" with a red screen and bailed out immediately. I was able to go to the next mission with no problem.

But I didn't want to.

2nd time - The 109 took engine damage, but the pilot was okay.

P.S. I never play with "No Instant Success" switched on.

Yup Hans that the very one - KABOOM - 10 times straight!

Thanks for the reply Flat - I started with rank that put me in I think 4th plane. Guess I will have to move on to next mission.

Ah-hah - That would be the problem then. The rest of the campaign should only provide the normal opportunities to be maimed and killed http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

Stupid pics aside, Flat Spin Man's "Luftwaffe Pilot: Legion Kondor" is an excellent campaign IMO.

It is impossible to get bored with this one because of all the variety involved.

I think everyone who tries it will like it. I know I did. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

That said, you are certifiable, Han....you know that, right?

Oh, and I followed the instructions on the package and survived that take-off bombing in my 109, so I guess that means that FlatSpin likes me best. No amount of fancy storytelling will change that, I'm afraid. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

Let's just say I was glad I had instant success turned on for once. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

But it's been a real fun campaign thus far. Haven't gotten all the way through it yet, but I really do like campaigns that have a little story to them. I especially liked going after my old buddy after he screwed me over. (His friends were no fun though. My first taste of the new AI routines. Wasn't expecting them to fly in the vertical much)

Anyway, a fine campaign and fine work on the nice story work and such. Makes me want to read up on the Spanish Civil War.

I had to bump this, if only because I couldn't get Han to take my bait. I was hoping for one of these... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/touche.gif And anyway, I'm waiting impatiently for his next episode....

Thanks very much for this campaign Ive really been looking forward to it.
It now means I can start at the very begining of the Luftwaffes history and attempt to serve through to 1945 and try to survive like so many real plots had to .

hey bushranger, do you know which map in the FMB is the one he used for the "intercept the smugglers" series of mission from Legion Kondor? I can't find it...it's the mountainous ones, i wanted to load it up and fly between those peaks...

Thank you very much - I've just downloaded and started this campaign, and it's ideal for a n00b like me, to learn the basics of flying. It also seems reminiscent of the excellent campaign in Luftwaffe Commander! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

FlatSpinMan
06-27-2006, 07:59 AM
Thanks, gents. Nice to hear my work is appreciated. Lowenherz- the CR42 is actually quite a dog to fly so if you can guts it out for the first few missions trying to land (or even take-off -nasty wing-drop) in that thing you'll be golden. Similarly for flying in teh mountains, the weather conditions can make take-off a bit fraught so locking tailwheels is a good idea.
I hope you enjoy it. I wanted to make something that would ease people into the game and I find personally that it is more fun learning the basics in a campaign where you have a story and an objective (and nice scenery. I cut my teeth on Extreme_One's Battle Over Britain.
Give me a yell if you have any problems or anything.
Cheers,
FSM

@alphalvr - You're right. It's not compatible with STANDALONE PF needs the merged version. I have noticed that in 4.05 two or three of the missions are way harder as the AI just don't give you a break. Also, very important - select the highest rank or one mission will be unsurvivable. Icons ON is helpful for the odd night mission.

@JG52Uther - Well, I'm glad you found it. Hope you enjoy it. Another one in the works - Luftwaffe Pilot: Battle Of Britain.

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif You know I have to weigh in here as a shameless supporter of this campaign. This is, hands down, my favorite campaign ever! I have copied several of the missions out to single mission folder and use a "day" version of the Berlin games mission as my "only a few minutes available & need a flying fix" fun mission. I'm still finding numerous ground details and such now on my 4th time through. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Well....! I'm on the first 109 mission, where you have to shoot down those biplanes, but where am I supposed to land? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blush.gif I let the AI direct me, and it set off in a direction for ages before running out of fuel and crashing!

The map in the briefing, and often the briefing itself indicates where you need to land. The map in mission will indicate your landing field with a friendly recon point.

The storyline is great! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif I've just (finally) shot down those biplanes in the Alps - really really tricky, with their low speed - took me about 6 attempts.

That's great to hear. They are surprisingly hard, especially inside the valley like that. the buffeting from the wind makes it hard to keep a steady aim, too.
Keep at it.
