The following is a copy of an email I recently sent to a mate and he suggested it may be of some interest. It is heavily edited as the original had liberal usage of Anglo Saxon http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

"Been flying a bit today, in fact quite a bit. Campaigns jumped from Nov 41 to May 42 and the quality of the red pilots has improved drastically.
First mission is me leading a schwarm on CAP over a town but the timings wrong and our waypoints lead us home before the reds show up so I go looking for them. Far out to sea I pick up a contact, predictable AI as they normally come in from the sea, close, three specs grow into two Lagg 3's and a U-2 biplane bomber doing about 120 kph. We got every advantage, the sun, height speed etc but those rotten Laggs got my No2 and 3 and one got on my 6 big time and the struggle went down from 3000m to almost sea level and I'm blowed if I can shake him and my no4 wont intervene but just keeps wandering around looking lost. Eventually I got on the red no2 and got three passing nibbles on him in a protracted sissors but his leader had the drop on me too so I could'nt get target fixation. Thankfully the AI can't really deflection shoot, saved my bacon there really. Anyways, chased the red no2 down to sea level with his no1 firmly on my 6, tracer whizzing by everytime I straightened out but not a single hit ! Then, as my target landed, wheels up, on a wave, I broke hard left, stood it on a wingtip and seriously flurted with stalling at 0m and went into a circle of death with the red leader. It was as though that AI Lagg knew that to lose courage would mean certain death because he held his turn and almost started to gain but I cut speed used varying degrees of flap and his death knell began. When I got into a firing position he jinked, twisted looped and threw his crate all over the plot but I stayed on him with rigorous use of the throttle, never more than 150m away but could'nt get a shot as he was so low. But he made an unforced error and straightened, one squirt and he was fish food http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
That lot took about 20 minutes and about half of a tank of fuel lol http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
I slowly climbed, rearranging my clothing as I had sweated some with the tension, following my waypoint home, too emotionally drained to bother with anything else and then the U-2 appears. Told my swarm, just no4 left, to sort him out but he was off looking for daisies so I went after it. Closed too fast, got too close, one thrud and.................. black screen......................(sigh)................ ............. bombs exploded, first time I had any grief in campaign and I really really wanted to do all 200 missions without death or bailing. AAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGHHHHHHHHH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyways, reflew mission, took on Laggs head on, got a piece of each but my no3 finished them both off before dealing with the U-2, :/ http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
Got ammo so went truck/train hunting, found a train, got too low as usual and when a carriage exploded so did I.............
Third time round it was sod the waypoints and straight out to sea, I wanted them Laggs baaaaaaaaaaaaad !! Found 'em and such was my frustration made a hash of a textbook attack, over shot, got wrong side of their guns and the rest is obvious http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
4th time, used waypoints, circled town til they showed and nailed both Laggs after a medocre bit of bunting, sent no3 after U-2 which he dispatched and then went home, rare three pointer then taxiied into fuel tank while boasting to Mrs................... black screen.
5th time was similar to 4th except I chose to avoid fuel tank (hoorah!)
Next mission is prep ground attack on red airfield prior to bombers, 8 109F4's v flak = suicide. Three times I black screened, multiple team mates dead too before giving up and flying through waypoints at 5000m and going home.
I chose to end it there as I'm convinced that dying too often is bad for ones well being http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif "

Thats where I'm at with the game right now, anyone else recognise it ?

A-ha... I see someone is also nuts about campaigns like me... I finished numerous campaigns and of all types of missions fighting faster enemies or ground attacking are two most dangerous types http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif .
You can pretty much relay on your skill in every other mission.

Reason why experienced player dies (offline) is impatience most of the time.

Although many of them have spent far too much time in it, like that daisy chasing wingman...

Great read, it seemed strangely familiar. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Most definately, especially when targets have to be competed for. In this campaign I have to be quick off the mark to get a chance to shoot.

h009291 I'm aware of that but its odd how often they fly straight into it when you are on their 6.

I recognize it, itís frustration!

I have a rule that If I die more then once on the same mission, Iíll either come back to that campaign later or shut the game down altogether for a few hours or even the day. I find that I get way too bent out of shape if I continue with the same mission over and over, and my performance getís worse. If I step away for a bit, I can come back to it fresh and usually get through the mission in one piece.

Last night I went through 3 games because of this rule. I played a couple solid missions in IL-2 before I got stuck, then I fired up Wings Over Vietnam and couldnít get past a single mission in a campaign. Then I fired up Wings Over Europe and had the same experience. I shut the computer down at that point and went to bed.
