first mission in single campaign , fighter.
i take off , raise landing gear, raise my flaps all the way.
and throttle 100% yet im climbing at 160 max (doesnt matter if i have WEP thing on/off) . i turn on autopilot and the speed increases dramatically.
as alitutude i can get to about 210 but no faster, auto you know, up 300+
what am i doing wrong? ive tried pressing everything i can, changing prop pitch, seeing if i had air brake on etc nothing seems to work.
whats slowing me down?

how do you get out of a horizontal spin?
how do you get out of a vertical spin?
how do you stop the torque effect from flipping the plane to the right a you take off?

thanks heaps!

Fuel level??

100%?? good luck my friend...

External weapons ?? bombs?? rockets??

Add all that and you have a really bad day.

Try the plane in quick mission and make a test flight with different loadouts..

try takeoffs, landings and evaluate.

good luck!

are you sure your flaps and gear are coming up?..take a external view to be sure ..... rudder opposite direction of spin .. make your movements slower and smoothely .this is not a star wars tie fighter ( due you have a joy stick). you cant fly as well as the auto pilot at take off and first bit of climbing out ( thats just the way it is ( different flight model)

What is a horizontal spin? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

- how do you get out of a vertical spin?

1.Reduce power to idle

2. If aircraft attitude is not in a straight spin down, push the elevator controls down. (get the plane to increase kinetic energy and airfoil speed)
3. Depending on aircraft type (in IL2) there are different routines on optimal recovery: but a tip is to apply rudder in the opposite direction of the spin while still applying some forward collumn pressure.

4. Once you have recovered from the major spin.. let the plane recover and use ALL available altitude for a slow pull up from ground. If you strees, you wil get into a secondary spin that will be even more serious than the first. You wont be likely to recover from that.

- how do you stop the torque effect from flipping the
- plane to the right a you take off?

1. To compensate for propeller torque and slipstream, you can use aileron trim and also rudder trim.

In order to fly optimal, you must really dig deep in the controls menu to set all your buttons right.

My tip is... imagine yourself as a testpilot..
get up there and push it!

And make recordings of it... so you can see what went wrong and what made it better... (you can pause, or make the tape go slower...)

Its a good tool.

Once again.. good luck!

Nothing. The AI flys better than you can. Just set autopilot until you reach cruising altitude.
-
- how do you get out of a horizontal spin?
Also known as a flat spin. Best method...hit Ctrl+E. Bailout m'boy, bailout!

- how do you get out of a vertical spin?
Use hard opposite rudder and cut throttle back. Plane will come out of spin eventually. (NOTE: This doesn't work very well below 1000M.)

- how do you stop the torque effect from flipping the
- plane to the right a you take off?

Apply opposite rudder and some opposite aileron.
-
- thanks heaps!

You are welcome. Good Luck and Good Flying!

thanks for all the quick replies!

ive used external view and the flaps do go up. ive got a sidewinder 3d pro.
something is not right though, im supposed to fly in formation the planes are far off in the distance and im only doing 160 to 200. i turn on auto pilot and he does something and the planes suddenly increases in speed to 300+ to catch up to formation then throttles back to about 260 right along side the other planes.

im almost stalling all the time. 160 is not right.

Check that your propeller pitch is in 100% ! ! ! ! !

Also.. u might to try using "ELEVATOR TRIM".

level the plane with the trim.. it will gain speed and thus gain even more lift... level it again.. and so on and so on...

if you want to there is a function celled Lelver stabilizer

You have to set it, it is not mapped by default.

its the 7th control from top in the list.

I use it on CTRL+A

Have you got hyperlobby client?

There is a ton of ppl that can help you online.

im in a fighter, the il, the first plane they give you.

prop pitch i leave on auto and i've tried all of the pitch settings.
what ive been doing is turing on auto until they are near the enemy planes , fighting, when i start to slow down put auto on, , but basically its unplayable.

its like im on on throttle 50% yet its says 100

ok the il is not a fighter.... go get somthing ele like a la 7.......look up on your top right screen yo will see " message see if you can click it we can talk better there

i have the pitch set right, if i lower it my speed drops to 130 120.
i tried the elevatore trim, i assigned pos, neut, neg to w,s,x
and i get no indication the buttons do anything at all.
except a throttle 100% appears

nimh1 are you flying the original IL-2 Sturmovik or IL-2 Forgotten Battles?

You'll NEVER catch the AI group until you've gained enough airspeed after take-off. The AI uses a simplified flight model (this issue has been greatly improved in Forgotten Battles) and can reach a higher airspeed much quicker than you can.
You're gonna have to either use autopilot to catch them up or ignore the flight leader screaming at you until you do manage to catch up.
You might want to try setting prop pitch to Auto as others have suggested. (check which key or assign your own under controls).
When taking off I'd suggest not using flaps unless you are heavily laden with extra ammo, bombs etc. Although take-off flaps do increase lift, they also increase drag, which is a factor in not attaining enough speed. Don't forget to "nose down" slightly too as your tailwheel will create drag too.
Last thing I'd suggest is to practice lots.
You're only suffering the same problems as most newcomers to the game. (If only you could read the "I can't Land!!" thread I posted when I began flying)

Good luck.

S! Simon.
