I've played Microsoft flight simulator for years but my god wow nothing compares to this game ! Just bought il2 sturmovik 1946 and I can't believe the developers are still supporting this game with patches etc. Everyday I find myself wanting to play this game lol. Sorry I know it's a bit random but I wanna let the devs know they got alot of support and fans backing them up ! Happy Flying!

Step away from the computer. Destroy the DVD. Never even think about IL-2 again. Or become a junkie like the rest of us. This 'game' can destroy relationships, and turn rational human beings into obsessive-compulsive social failures, living on stale pizza and wearing the same clothes for a week solid, 24 hours a day. It is fun though - welcome to the forum. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I said it before and I will say it again.
No doubt the best WW2 flight simulator in the world!
I can`t describe this game in words...you have to feel it for your self.

I just hope the new game from 1C maddox will be the same as the previous ones - simulator and not arcade or some bull sh*t...
The game has to be the same!
Long live Oleg!!! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Hello and welcome.
I have really tried to enjoy the FS series, but I find that Il2 offers so much more.
It's true that I cannot choose to fly from just about any airport in the world like in FS, but what Il2 does have more than makes up for that.

"Hi,
My name is "Swivet"

(applause, hi Swivet)
.....
and i am an IL2 Junkie, I was a 50 sortie a day user, but now i am down to 40 due to mods, life, connection issues and some woman that's been living with me the past 20yrs. After 8 long years that i have been abusing this drug, I finally got to reduce my habit to about 30 sorties a day. I hear there is a new program being released for junkies like myself and i fear my habit will increase when this program is released"

Good to have you with us HybridAlien.
It is still a really great sim. You can do so much with it, too.

AH isn't kidding. This sim is unbelievable. I thought the game of golf was deep. This thing just keeps going deeper and deeper. And I'm just starting to comprehend MODS. I got the 1946 DVD off of Amazon a month ago for $10 and I'm hooked. I just got Perfect scenery going last night, so now my obsession is going to get worse. At the same time I switched the sound from 44 to 22 and my framerates got better even with Perfect Scenery.
I was using CFS3 and got TIR4 and then added TH2go and that was pretty cool. Then I saw a demo for Wings of Prey and tried that but it didn't run well on my Dell P4 2.8. Barely worked on min settings. But... WOP led me to IL-2. And that's where the fun begins.
IL-2 1946 runs fine on a P4. I only get 18 to 20 fps but it's still pretty smooth. And I'm mostly flying single missions off line but it's incredible. Oh and don't forget San's FOV changer. That's essential for TH2go. But I'm in deep already. Wife's not freaking out yet but if I keep going... Anyway, Thanks to Oleg and the entire community for an AMAZING SIMULATION. I'm a long way off from Full Switch Online Combat, but I'm allready weaning myself off of "No Cockpit" view. Now as long as I learn to fly with stalls and spins and no Invulnerability, I think I'll be well on my way to attempting online combat. Again, the available resources for training, instruction, etc. are MIND BLOWING. Thanks again and I hope to be riddled with bullets and knocked out of the skies by many off you in the near future. Fluke.

FSX is hard to love but IL-2 will capture your soul. Can't believe it's still on the hard drive after all these years and gets used on regular basis. Addictive? Yes. Just the thought of Oleg and Team's next flight sim keeps me from announcing early retirement. I figure if my wife sees me working once in awhile it will be easier to justify building that next super computer.

You should worry - I've spent several hours this week repeatedly flying a Ju-88 back and forth over the Kerch peninsula, recording airspeeds. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Obsession? No! This is just a hobby of mine...

Yup. People spend hours fishing or watching TV shows. Don't understand what's the problem with Il-2.

FSX is a beast, no doubt, but I think it goes very well with IL2. I just got the new ORBX Pacific North West scenery and it's hands down the nicest terrain you have ever seen in a flightsim. Really amazing. Granted, you have to spend time playing with the settings to make it flyable on your rig (a nice solid 20 FPS will do), but when you've got it, it's stunning. You fly for an hour straight just looking around at real world terrain, playing leap frog with the mountains in a Cessna. It's a helluva lotta fun.

Then you hop into IL2, run up all the settings to max, build a funky mission, and go blow the **** out of something spectacular with great FPS. Big action, big sound. Excellent!

It's not a question of blondes or brunettes - it's blondes and brunettes.

Anyway, check out the Orbx PNW video. Imagine IL2 terrain this good. I think I'd wet my pants.
