View Full Version : Is this possible?

Several people have posted before on realistic cockpit sounds in Forgotten Battles. Some stated (Some saying they are real pilots) that with traditional propeller tractor-style airplanes, that engine noise is so loud that you can't hear a plane next to you unless he is all of 5 feet away from you.

I've asked a pilot I know in real life, and he agrees with this.

My question is... Is it possible to model this realism in Forgotten Battles, as possibly another difficulty feature?

Example - External Sounds On/Off

(Thanks to Recon for this idea, I think he is the one who originally thought it up)

I think doing this (if possible, and if Oleg & Crew are willing, even in the paid add-on maybe) would add more realism and more fun to people who fly with high difficulty settings.

I have flown as many others on high difficulty/realism servers and been able to hear people coming from quite a ways away, and it is very irritating to have a bounce ruined because he hears you coming.

Again, Questions are : "Is this possible" and "Is 1C Maddox willing at any time" ?

The new sound dll in RC patch that uses lower external sounds is much better IMO than prior. IF you download the new RC patches check out the alternate dll for sound....it may be a little more to your liking. I know it's not a difficulty option but it's a great alternative I hope gets added to FB /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I just hope it doesn't remain a "user-selectable" alternative for the sake of online play.

How real do you want it to be, if you have genuine noise level we`ll all be deaf, why dont you get get somebody to shake your chair so you get genuine vibrations too

Ok wrong way to put it but if you are playing offline you cant sneak up on an A.i either so maybe that need to be looked at first, also i agree i principle about cockpit noise you realy only need to hear your own engine ,radio calls and bullet impacts (because you can`t feel them like in R/l )

fair enough?

Here we go again.

Isn't it great how all these programers can come out of the woodwork and tell us how things 'should' be done.

Go ahead and create a brand new exploit guys. I can't wait.

No it's a test version so people can see what we have all been talking about and most(?) want. Basically we need to vote and say we want the reduced external noises in cockpit so an actual element of surprise can be achieved....after it gets counted the yes or no's get it....only 1 mg_snd dll will be available for all users in final patch.... they are also not interchangable from patch to patch as in IL2.

Hold on. I somehow missed this statement.

I fly "full hard" whenever possible. I prefer it. I look down my nose at arcade pilots and all that jazz.

I just don't get this whole "realistic" sound argument.

The sound engine is as realistic as it gets on modern hardware.

Campaign away, my lemmings, but when you've screwed the sound programing up, you wont stand a chance against the exploiters.

In the end, people with $14 sound cards will continue to exploit the sound.

Luckily, Oleg will never make it a server variable as this would be 'The Stupidest Programing Decision Since The Dawn Of Man'.
